When I try to edit contacts I get message - "Unable to edit SNS contacts on phone". How do I edit these contacts?

So is it important that we can't edit SNS contacts on the phone? And what does this message mean, exactly?

I also can't edit contacts for the same SNS reasons. When I try and set a ringtone for particular contacts in the default music player, it says that I have NO CONTACTS..... But of course I've imported all my contacts already and they show on my phone.

Ok, I found a workaround it. Pretty silly, but it works. You have to import all contacts to and from your SD card.

Go into contacts, hit menu and "more", then "import /export contacts", then "Export to SD". Then import all contacts from your SD card onto your phone.

Then when you view a contact, click on the "Phone" tab, and those you can edit.

Have you tried going into menu and select viewing from phone only or SD card only?

Default similar problem

I want to delete my text message history but it does not seem possible.

We know we can delete individual text messages, but when you open Contacts, then go to the History tab, all the sent and received text messages are there, and even the first sentence is kept. You select on it and it says "Message Deleted" but what's the point if the first few words are there, timestamp, recepient, etc.

When you click on the context menu button (bottom left button), and select Delete, you get another message "SNS messages cannot be deleted."

Anyone know a solution to this? Do I have to jailbreak/root this?

When it comes to editing SNS contacts you can't do that because the details are being fetched from Social Networking sites like Twitter- and Facebook contacts. You can't change these details directly because the information is pulled off Facebook and Twitter. If they change their details there, they will also change in your phone. Feature or Fail, you decide - but that is how it is intended to work.

Go to GMAIL, FACEBOOK etc... and edit the contact details there. The point of SNS is that you don't keep the details on the phone, you have them on gmail and can then have those contacts on many devices, futuristic!

How do you go to facebook and edit people's contact details? If you're asking people to go home and to get on their computer to edit their phone book.. that's the most ridiculous idea I've ever heard.

Gmail syncs, which isn't a problem. You can edit everything fine on the phone.

I haven't tried it yet, but could facebook contacts be added to the phone book, exported out (via the phone book export feature) to the .vcf and then re-imported back into phone book (into gmail)?

Once everything's stored on gmail it's a lot easier to manage.

Here is the fix to that:

1) Go to your contacts...there select import/export

2) Select "Export to SD card"

3) The file should be saved on your card directory as a .vcf file

4) Login to your Gmail account

5) Go to import contacts and search for the file on your SD card

6) Select import

After that, there will be your entire phone directory, which will allow you to edit everyone there. As you edit your contacts they should populate everytime your syncs to your gmail account.

Good luck, and I hope this helps

Laugh to update without messing with ur sd card

To Update your contacts without messing with your sd card, or putting the information on the web:
1) go to contacts
2) view the contact you want to update
3) scroll down to the list of joined accounts
4) click on the list of joined accounts (hold finger until menu pops up)
5) click the "minus" button of any online accounts (facebook, twitter, ect.)

Now you can go back and update your contact list information. When finished,
just re-join the contact to their online account.

Smile SNS contacts.

If you want to modify SNS contacts, then you have to create a dummy contact with the same name. You do not have to put any more information in the dummy contact. In fact, you don't even have to use the last name. It just has to have something in it that comes close. Then you save it.

After you do that, then you go to your contacts and open up the one you want to modify, and you join it with the dummy one that you just created. Click on Menu at the bottom of your phone. Then click on join contact. This gives you the option to merge your original contact with the dummy one that you just created.

Once they are merged together, then you can edit your contact.

Thanks Forum! The import/export to and from my SD card did the trick and now I can edit all my contacts. I did have a few that were duplicates (not all) so I just deleted those. Excellent advice.

Sorry, I got lost in the 4th step. Am I supposed to log in in my Android? If so, where can I find the "import contacts" option?

The sns History in contacts was initially supposed to be a whole different feature. Due to a last minute problem the sns history will always be the biggest flaw of galaxy s. You can delete the entire list but the messages will come back maybe not.all at once but they will gradually come.back to life. It is not something to depend on. Dates times and contact names are rarely correct. (Ie. Example) Joe sent have a nice day on mom 6/21/2011 at 2pm in the history of sns it reads Joe sent have a nice day on mon 6/27/11 at 5pm. For such a great device deal.with the flaw or message me and ill help you root your device.
