Default APN Settings

Well after many an unsuccessful online search and fruitless back and forth with my wireless carrier I am tossing this one to the community. I can only hope that this can be resolved without any further heartache on my end...sigh...

I am having trouble setting up APNs for my Samsung Galaxy S to receive and send emails while on GPRS. I was able to find the APN settings for my carrier (LIME nee Cable & Wireless) online but for some reason it only works for internet access. As mentioned above I have sought assistance from the Reps at LIME but they were only able to confirm that the settings as programmed were correct.

My current settings are as follows:

APN Name: LIME
APN: wap
Proxy: 10.20.5.34
Port: 8799
User Name: Not Set
Password: Not Set
Server: Not Set
MMSC: Not Set
MMS Port: Not Set
MCC: 342
MNC: 600
Authentication Type: None
APN Type: Internet

If there are any other Android users on LIME networks that have successfully set up their phones to send emails, or anyone else who are in a position to provide guidance, I would greatly appreciate the assistance.

Thanks in advance.

GJ

I'm afraid I don't know anything about your carrier, but...

You say that internet access works with those settings? Tbh if internet access works that should automatically mean that email is a viable option. As far as I know/assume I don't think the APN has anything specifically to do with that. Data is data.

This may seem like an obvious question but are you sure that your email settings are set up correctly? Or do emails work fine on wifi?

No offense taken my friend, that is exactly what I thought too. In my mind so long as you get internet there shouldn't be any issue with pulling down emails. To answer your question, yes I am able to send and receive emails while on WiFi. And to be honest, I only use Gmail so email set-up is a breeze.

Thanks for your input much appreciated.

Do you get a GPRS indicator on your screen when it is using data?

Yes but not if you are connected to WiFi. If yours isn't showing up check Settings-->About Phone-->Status and ensure that Mobile Network State says connected. If it doesn't that means that you are either in an area with weak cell coverage or the APN settings are not correctly entered. Try removing the Port Number and see if that helps.

Pretty good actually. Upgraded to Froyo a month or so ago and its a thing of beauty. I wish the Lime would hurry up and offer 3g because GPRS is a waste of all of SGS' power.

I think we can take this off forum so shoot me a PM or hit me up on gmail.

Hey guys,
good to see some post here
I live in St. Kitts
I know LIME doesn't offer support for any smart phones other than BB and Iphone, which to me is pure crap
Digi does however.
So I got this HTC Inspire I have a lime sim card I wanna give it a shot to see if it will work. I know I've already got internet using the same sim card a while back on my Sony phone (forgoet the brand)
And I'm fed up of BB (they just not getting the picture of what it means to improve your phone)
So testing this htc and wanna see the net run on it. And I know I should be able to get it done with my lime cim, if not I'll go to digi cause I know they offer data services, for ihone, pads etc etc

Hey guys, does the APN change based on location. I am going to Cayman and want to get a Lime plan for a week. I just want to make sure the APN I try to use does not change from island to island.
