Default Teruten

Never had this before but all of a sudden when i run kies I get a window popping up saying Teruten wishes to make changes to my computer. Anyone know what Teruten is?

FYI Teruten is a Korean software company, which specialises in DRM protected media products. Not sure what it's doing with Kies though.

What make of computer are you using? you may find that this question is being asked by the computer rather than by Kies. With my Toshiba laptop I always get asked if I'm sure a new program can change my computer settings before I allow it to access the internet.

I'm having the same issue since 1.53.10103_100 upgrade, possibly due to DRM media support but still very crap, also if you don't allow the changes the flash screen stays up until you kill the process
i love the galaxy s but don't think i'd buy samsung again build quality, support and updating leave a hell of a lot to be desired

Hi Folks - Just had my Galaxy S delivered today, installed Kies on a Sony Vaio Windows 7 64 Bit and cannot get past the Teruten wants to modify Hard Disk - just repeats & repeats whether I say Yes or No. Samsung Support is closed in UK. So Phone is unusable - great start to my Samsung experience. Any solutions out there??

Hi Andy-Roid. I have just spent an hour or more talking to Samsung Tech. They siad the issue was still having my Blackberry Ap on PC and did I have any iPhone apps installed. Deleted these as instructed, uninstalled and reinstalled Keis. Did check all Microsoft Updates and level of Windows Media Player as they requested - all up to the latest! But it did not cure the problem - escalated to a Supervisor? who said that I obviously had a problem with my PC and needed to get maintenance!!! I am arranging to return the Phone - Shame nice spec - but without PC Software its just a brick! BYE!

Hi guys, had the same problem as you. I tried installing the kies software on vista and xp and it works well in both platforms. seems like it doesn't work well with win 7.

Strikes me that the whole Kies thing is bad. What does it give me, except:
I cant upgrade my phone without it (others manage fine, so I see this as a negative!).
It installs Teruten (I don't know why, therefore I consider it to be malware).
It gives me a pretty UI (erm, to do what exactly).
It lets me rip CDs (why???, this is software for my phone).
It lets me upload a picture from my PC to Flickr (why?).
On a Google phone they decide not to integrate with Picasa???
Remember this is for my phone!
It lets me tether my phone via a wacky interface.

Dear SAMSUNG, please please please drop this pile of junk (before it gets any bigger), and give me:
- Simple Tethering.
- Mass Storage device functionality.
- Over The Air upgrades.
That's about it! (Basically I want Android)

hi folks! this is my firs post here @ the forum ...
and i'm happy to tell you all that there is a solution to this problem - downloading kies_win.exe from samsungapps.com (here)
donno what's the difference between this version and the one from samsung.com, but i don't get any "teruten" messages or anything ... of course you need to uninstall the samsung.com version of kies before!
(i run win 7 64 on toshiba tecra and samsung galaxy s (froyo ver.) phone)

hope that helps! (it sure did for me)

Default Solution

Hi friends!
I found a solution to the problem, without needing to uninstall Kies. Type "msconfig" in the run space of the screen, and then enter the tab "Startup", find all entries with manufacturer Samsung (I found 2 of them) and deselect them. Then restart and the teruten program installation window does not appear again.

I'm new here and until yesterday, when I installed Kies, my Win7X64 was operating just fine. Today, it's a mess. Multiplying flashing warnings about Teruten making changes, Kaspersky reporting suspicious objects. Not fun. I tried an uninstall and was told I can't do it as the Kies program is running. I also tried a system restore and cannot do that being told my C: drive has bad sectors. All sounds very ominous to me and I'm really bummed.

I installed kies on my Vista 64bit and it worked fine as long as I uninstalled another program which was required for my old Samsung phone. Then I started to get a message saying there was some fatal error concerning the programme and now these Teruten messages start flashing every time I turn on the computer. I choose to ignore them until there's about twenty of them, and then i just close them and don't see them until I open my computer again.

I have a Galaxy S by Samsung.
I have had it for several months.
I travel a lot with my work, and have found that the phone
performs well everywhere I go.
At the beginning I did have a problem where it turned itself off
a couple of times but that has never happened since.
I think the phone is great, and so is Android.

However, I cannot say the same thing about Samsung and especially Kies.

Because I travel a lot as part of my job, I use Skype and wanted to use
it on my phone.
So I go to do this and find it does not work.
1) Email to Samsung New Zealand - Why does Skype not work ?
2) Answer from Samsung NZ - The problem is with Skype.
3) Email to Skype - Why can't I use Skype on my Samsung ?
4) Answer from Skype - You need Android 2.
5) Email to Samsung NZ - Skype say the problem is because I don't have Android 2.
How can I get Android 2.
6) Answer from Samsung NZ - We have not released Android 2 in NZ yet.
7) Email to Samsung NZ - When will you release it. I see it is available in other countries.
8) Answer from Samsung NZ - We don't have a release date at this point.

bah - humbug.

Now as to Kies, this is the biggest, bloatest, worst piece of unnecessary crap
I have come across. Designed by a bunch of nerds, somewhere
in Korea, who love this sort of BS. Kies is very intermittent about when it
decides to recognise the phone. Sometimes it does, sometimes it does
not. I use Win XP Pro.

It has all these features, no one needs, as others have commented
above. Most of the features that are in Kies, I already have in other
applications. Why do I need yet another media player ?
Why do I need another file or photo organiser ?

I now am able to access the photo and video files on my phone directly
by using Windows Explorer, and just treating it as another USB drive.

I use TUT (The Ultimate Troubleshooter from Answers That Work) to
maintime my PC and find out what crap these manufacturers put on
my PC.

Anyway, I'm doing a regular cleanup using TUT, and hello, I see FsbUSBService,
supplied by Teruten is running. Just another piece of
background BS that I don't need as I hook up my phone about once
every two months, max.

So I will be disabling that. All of these things slow your PC down and
make the startup take ages.

When will software manufacturers stop putting useless, unsolicited
programs on our PC's ? Never I guess.

Example - Logitech make good Webcams. Fit one of these to a PC,
and install the drivers. Simple - right ? Wrong, it installs all sorts
of movie editing stuff and other things without asking you.

Now, when I put one of the cameras on a PC, I let it install everything,
then go and do an uninstall, which strangely does not remove the driver,
but uninstalls all the unnecesary stuff.
