Default Unable to sign in to google account/Android market after factory reset

Hey guys! I bought a Samsung Galaxy S a few days back and was able to sign into the Android market via my gmail account. I even managed to download the BarCode scanner application.

That's where the problems begun. Since auto-sync was on, all my gmail contacts were synced with my phone contacts. Now since I did not want to see my gmail contacts every time I try and make a call, I performed a factory reset on the phone (since there was no other way to get rid of all the gmail contacts at once). I then turned sync off and tried to sign in to my Google account, but it refused to do so. I get a message saying: "Unable to establish a reliable connection with server. This may be a temporary problem or your phone may not be provisioned for data services. Please contact customer care if the problem persists." I even tried connecting with sync on just for the heck of it but it still did not work.

The Samsung Customer Care service in India is truly pathetic. They said that: "We do not provide support for such technical problem" Wtf? They then proceeded to give a regional center number, which when I called...well.. the less said the better!

I would really appreciate if someone could help me with this because it's driving me nuts!!

Are you seeing this problem with WiFi or GPRS or both? Go to Settings -> Wireless & Network & see what is enabled / disabled. Maybe flight mode is enabled & that disable all your connectivity.

Flight mode is disabled. The settings are the same as before. All other internet features work fine. I've been able to browse and download a few Samsung applications. It's just that I can't sign in to my google account.

Check out this thread:

[Solved] Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server - xda-developers

Apparently, the workaround is to register your google account through youtube application. No idea if this will work, but give it a shot!

I've been having the same problem. All the guides online say to open the Youtube app and log out, but I don't have that option. I only have My Account which brings me right back to the Gmail signin screen that gives me the error. Any ideas?

I signed in to the youtube account via my gmail ID. If you then go to Settings -> Accounts and sync , you will notice that your gmail account has been added to your list of accounts. Keep the Background data option on and then try and sign in to the Android Market. Oh yeah when I did try and sign in to the Android Market after this whole process, I got a "Server unavailable. Try again later" message around 3 or 4 times but then it finally logged in. Hope this was of some help!

I think my problem is that I can't sign into Youtube with ANY account. It just keeps giving me the infuriating "Set up your Google account" screen anytime I click My Account.

I started beig unable to synch my gmail on my Samsung Galaxy S1 2 days ago. Yesterday I couldn't even open gmail. Today talk and google+ kept telling me "invalid username or password" and "unable to establish a connection to google server". Internet, twitter and facebook were however working fine, so it wasn't an issue with my service provider.
Did a factory reinstall and it hasn't fixed the proble. followed the advice on this post and no luck either.
Anyone figured out why our phones are doing this and how it can be sorted?
