Default can anyone play audio via headphones on their Galaxy S i-9000

I am not able to play audio through headphones on the Samsung Galaxy S i-9000. I have tried my own headphones and I have tried the headphones Samsung provides and it just won't work.

If I use the Samsung headphones I will get SOME sound through them if I really push it into the audio socket and rotate the headphone plug until it get's some signal but as soon as I let go the phone will say "no headphones connected".

I don't get the FM Tuner to work either because the phone won't recognize headphones are plugged in. I have tried THREE models of the Galaxy S i-9000 so far and it wouldn't work on ANY of those.

So what is your experience? It seems like a faulty production if I get it to work (well kinda) if I push the plug into the socket by force and it won't work (probably get pushed out a tiny bit) once I let go again with the headphones SAMSUNG provided themselves.

No problems here either.
If you tried your headphones in other SGS's and found they didn't work, could indicate a headphone rather than SGS problem.
Have you tried all options with/from a known working set up?

I noticed that too and got really depressed
then I noticed that the cover I had on my phone was preventing the plug from going all the way in
removed the cover and pushed the plug harder to make it go in properly
hope you have the same problem

Default audio jack

Hya guys,

I just had the same problem the past couple of day's, not any headphone would play audio. But today i tried to make a phonecall with the headphones and somehow that worked!

So i turned my phone off.. took out battery (just in case)
and then i put it back and turned it on.

and now it workes again!
In my case a software glitch i think. Hope your solution is as simple as mine?

Ug. I just discovered that my headphones don't work, either, and they're plugged in all the way too. Solutions?

First thing to try is your headphones on a different device, if they don't work there then it's the headphones, if they do work on another device then it's your phone.

Yes, the headphones work on my laptop; so it's my phone--but does that mean it's my phone's hardware or software?

I've used several pairs of non-Samsung headphones, earbuds and PC speakers on my S. All work just fine, including FM radio. Could be a faulty phone. Some of the third-party protective cases can stop a headphone jack been pushed all the way home and making contact. Solution here is to enlarge the hole in the protective casing.

Maybe a silly question but have you tried any other headphones on your handset to see if they also don't work?
It would assume it's hardware, what version of Android are you running? is there an update available you could do in case its software? If it is a hardware problem, the only way of sorting it would be to contact Samsung about repairs.

Well guys--I'm embarrassed to admit this, but it turns out the 'problem' was user-side: I simply wasn't pushing the headset into the jack all the way. *blush* You really have to snap it down rather harder than I'm used to.

lol. That's just weird. It has a limit to how far down it can go. And it's clearly visible that it won't go down any further?

I know--I wish I had a good excuse. I do have a case, but . . . My gf's earphones went in more readily. The Samsung headphones just snap in harder, what can I say?

My headphones work fine for playing music and stuff, but I can never use them during a phone call. Is there some option to enable this?

Not that I'm aware of. My mic functionality just 'works' for phone calls (with the original Samsung headset). Try using a friend's mic/headset, perhaps, and see if that works.

Don't worry, you're in good company. I spent yesterday evening trying to work out why the sound kept cutting out when watching videos in landscape mode - until I realised I was holding my finger over the speaker

OMG....I just found out that this was my problem too!
I was SO afraid of breaking my phone that I didn't push it all the way in, because it felt like it wouldn't go any farther in. I had to force it a little, but once I did...it worked fine! I feel a little bit of an idiot...but thanks to you at least I didn't spend my money on adapters and new earbuds that I didn't need! Thanks!

Do you use an official samsung piece for the phonecals?
I have the beats studio by dre, the control talk is specified for blackberry and iphone.

The problem with the galaxy is it's HDMI-out the HDMI is located in the same plug as the jack plug an this leads to interference with the sound an make's it impossible to make phonecalls
