Kies is 'Bad news'
Having read many postings regarding Kies and the many tales of frustrations relating to it.....I decided not to try and use it.
I have a box stock SGS and I was still stuck with 2.1 (Eclair) and I had read that 2.2.1 was a 'good' firmware upgrade.
Luckily, I knew a Samsung tech, so I asked him about the whole thing of upgrading. He suggested I skip right over 2.2.1 and go to 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) and NOT to use Kies to do it.
He offered to do the upgrade for me.....and I quickly accepted the offer. He used ODIN,.....and it took less than 5 minutes. My SGS is now SO SMOOTH and FAST....it's great!
I am very pleased with 2.3.3 and my activites with my SGS are so much more enjoyable. I highly reccomend it to anyone considering a firmware upgrade.
Unfortunately, my GPS issue is still an issue....much to my frustration.
I was really hoping that this upgrade would fix that GPS issue once and fro all.....but it seems not....it's still pretty sad.
