Default Samsung Galaxy S stuck on 2.1

Hi,

Kies keeps telling me there is no upgrade for my Galaxy S. Yet I am on 2.1

How can I go about upgrading the phone myself and what version of android do you recommend for my phone?

It's really slow on times, freezes, crashes.. Grrrr

Thanks

If the phone is not network locked, you have plenty of choices.

I am using Stock Gingerbread XXJVK and quite happy with it, I have no lagfix yet the ROM is fast and stable enough. Hardly ever needed to restart the phone.

Forget Kies and look at samfirmware.com

I think it's locked to TMobile UK as its still under contract.

Is this an issue?

Can you post info from what you see in "Settings-->About Phone"

1) Model Number
2) Firmware Version
3) Baseband Version
4) Kernel Version
5) Build Number

Also the info you see after dialing *#1234#

This will help to know exactly what phone + firmware you currently have.

Sorry for a late reply. You can manually upgrade your GT-I9000 to latest Gingerbread.

News - www.SamFirmware.com has everything you need to start. You need to register and then you can download Gingerbread like XXJVK or even later versions. You will need Odin software to flash the new ROM into your device.

Do a little search on how to flash ROM using Odin, you will get dozens of tutorials.
