Default Home screen weather widget Galaxy S2

I deleted by mistake weather widget from my home screen, trying to get it back, but there is no such widget in library. Anyone else had this same problem? Will appreciate your feedback.

That sounds strange because removing it from the screen should not delete it fully :/ - try rebooting the phone and try again. good luck

Thanks, I did reboot and still nothing. The strange thing is that there is no weather widget in Android widgets menu. The one I am missing is the blue one, it's shown on every photos of S2.

Are you sure it exists? I keep seeing pics of the GS2 with a 4x1 blue weather widget but I don't have it on my phone, I assumed it was just a mock-up. The weather widgets that I have are an AccuWeather one that's 2x1 and the News & Weather one, which lets you pick either news or weather when you add it. That one's rubbish though

The accuweather one can change in size on the homescreens. Gives more info if bigger.

I'm sure, I had it from beginning and stupidly, I deleted it from my home screen to bring it back on another screen and since than I can't find it. I tried News and Weather but it's completely different style. I don't know what to think about it. BTW, I bough it in Poland this month, maybe european models are a bit different.

It is very easy: press the left key down (next to your home key) then go "add", then "widgets" then "Accuweather" that's how mine is called. After adding it on ur screen Then you can resize it by long hold on top of it (may be 5seconds until you see the yellow lines which show you how big or small u can make it.

I think if you move it to the trash can a certain way, it will actually un-install the app.

I'm facing the same problem. Now I have the 2 x1 weather widget instead of the 4x1 widget that my SGS II had when I received it. I deleted it by mistake, now I'm unable to restore it.

Isnít the widget resizable? Holding down on the bottom right corner should allow you to resize it to 4x1.

Got it!!. Now my 4 x 1 accuweather widget is back. The resizing trick worked. I put the tiny 2 x 1 accuweather on a blank home screen and then tap it for a moment (hold till exact the moment we got the vibration). Now u see the yellow grid and you drag the widget corner with an indicator to the required size. You can resize it up to the size of 4 x 4.

I am so grateful for this reply, I was beginning to panic. What a relief to find this forum to get help as I was beginning to feel out of my depth with this new phone.

I only have the 2x1 as well. When I resize it, it goes 4x1, but keeps the 2x1 info. Ie, the blue bit is tiny in the middle, with the weather one side and animation other side.

I used to have the 4x1 with all the info, but it's not there anymore!

Are you sure your Data connection is strong enough?
The 1st time I did this my signal was only on 'G' and it took ages to refresh, but at home its a good signal, 3G or H and it refreshed in a second or two.

Hey, I think this is still on the topic.

When I upgraded to the latest firmware of my SGS2. The AccuWeather widget now only works via mobile Internet. Via Live wifi(that has good reception and high speed Internet) it just says "Connection failed" and I cannot get it to work via any wifi.

Can anyone help with this?

Thanx, Rene

Are you using the stock launcher? To resize, just long press until yellow box pops up but remember not to move your finger. Maybe with some launchers, resizing just makes it bigger without changing the actual column-row format.

Cheers

Does any one know where online I can find all the Samsung Galaxy S2 widgets displayed? Is the same group of widgets standard on all Samsung phones?

In stock TW launcher, already have standard widgets including the weather type you see on the advertisements. On the home screen, tap the menu button, tap add, then tap widgets. You should be able to scroll and look for Acuweather.

Other launchers have other widgets, and so do certain apps once installed.

Someone on XDA created this list, (sorry cant remember who) but you should be able to find the widget apk from whatever youre missing from stock there.

Good link but I'm just looking for a screenshot of the widgets (e.g. all the available Samsung widgets for current smartphones...Galaxy Nexus, S2..etc...all widgets for HTC phones...etc.).

Why would you need screenshots of all widgets? And widgets depends on launchers and application installed as well, so it might not be the same for all phones and makes.

Hi Russell,

I haven't bought my smartphone yet. Researching. Like to know what widgets are available for with brand/model of phones. Which is why I am hoping to see screen shots of the widgets too. Not a big deal. Just a curiosity. Won't be buying till next year any how. Just wanted to know if there isn't a website with screen shots of currently available widgets.

By the time I'm ready to buy (for various reasons) the Samsung Galaxy S3 might be out. HTC Amaze 2...etc. And dare I say iPhone 5.

Didn't know widgets are dependant on the "launchers" and "apps installed". I'm totally new to smartphones. Still using a flip phone. Just thought my next phone should be a smartphone. Most likely an Android based phone.

IP4 have no widgets. IP4s have a couple but can't add more officially.

As for Android, HTC and Samsung have slightly different widgets. But if you have SGS2, you can still get similar HTC widgets. In short, you can pretty much get anything you want by looking for it. I have widgetsoid which allows me to customize individual buttons for different usage. Go Launchers have widgets for agenda, sms, etc.

If you look at the thread for people to post their homescreens, you can see amazing variety for widgets that people place on it.

That's what is partly turning me off from buying even the iP5 when it comes out. Lack of widgets. Which to some shouldn't matter. I like them.

Will look for the threads you mentioned where owners post photos of their home screens. Maybe they have some widgets not commonly seen on review sites.

Janley,

You do realise there are 2 capacitive buttons beside the Home Button right? Press the left one which is the menu button at the homescreen and follow the instructions already given. The right one is a back button.

This thread has been amazingly helpful. However, I haven't quite reached a solution. I now have the accuweather widget on my home screen but are unable to increase the size following the advice in this thread. When I long press I get a white box which will move the widget but not increase its size. Please help!

When you long press it, you must keep your finger steady. You cannot move your finger. Just long press until yellow box appears around the widget. That's what I remember from when using TW last time. Using GoLauncher now.

Cheers

Thanks Russell. I stumbled on the answer by accident. It wasn't until I actually took my finger off that the YELLOW sizing box appeared. So, all good now and thanks for taking the time to offer assistance.
