Default Who has an official 2.3.4 firmware update via Kies?

Thought I would start a thread for people waiting for the official update through Kies, and who are not interested in using Odin.

So if you have updated via Kies can you post when you updated, who is your carrier, and what country you are in.

I am still waiting for it, I got my S2 from Carphone Warehouse, its unbranded and unlocked but still nothing.

So 40 minutes ago I thought "that's me, I'll see what Kies tells me". So stupid. First it wouldn't sense that the phone was connected. So I shut everything else down and tried again. And again. And then it crashed my laptop with a Blue Screen Of...very poorly! Just managed to get it all back up and running (at work...oops) and have decided to uninstall Kies here and at home and join the Root/Flash/Odin brigade! So, sorry that your first respondent has abandoned the cause! (YNWA).

daz_2000, that's good news but can you tell me your source, I have been going through various forums but can't seem to find anything as definite as you have, or to put it another way - where is the best place to get news on official releases (obviously not Samsung, Vodaphone or even Google!!!!)

I think samfirmware tweeted it mate.

I've been waiting months for it and after refusing to update via odin, I finally updated via Odin yesterday. Was surprising easy and am now running 2.3.4. Can't say I've found any massive differences to date.

Sorry if i jumped the Gun?
Kies has updated me to the latest version of Firmware.

PDA:KF3 /PHONE:KE7 /CSC:KG2 (O2U)

About Phone still shows Gingerbread 2.3.3
So i'm not sure if mine is the latest either. (Or a corrupt install of Kies never showed an old update or not).

Sorry for any confusion.

I thought firmware and OS were the same thing.

I got that PDA:KF3 /PHONE:KE7 /CSC:KG2 (XEU) last week and I thought I was getting 2.3.4.

Can someone clarify what is the difference between firmware and the OS?

I was messing about for a few minutes with Ice Cream Sandwich on a Nexus S, and it seemed flawless. Unfortunately I was watched so couldn't really do anything with it, and they wouldn't answer any questions

I used to jailbreak my iPhone but with the GS2 I can't be bothered rooting it, as it does everything I need without needing to.
Obviously if 2.3.4 solved major issues i'd be on it already but I think I can happily wait for the Kies update. I actually thought due to this thread that it was out and did feel disappointed seeing no update. :P

Mine is PDA:KF3 /PHONE:KE7 /CSC:KD1 (XEU) <-- Now i need to know what it means

If I connect to KIES using a USB cable it shows (I'm on Vodaphone UK)

PDA:KF3 /PHONE:KE7 /CSC:KG2 (XEU)

but if I enter *#1234# on the phone it says

PDA : I9100XWKF3
PHONE : I9100XXKE7
CSC : I9100XEUKD1

similar but not exactly the same

scrub that, just double checked KIES and it does say

PDA:KF3 /PHONE:KE7 /CSC:KD1 (XEU)

so they are both the same - sorry about that

XEU is one of the generic locale codes for UK/EC firmware.

Interesting that both unlocked and O2 handsets show KF3/KE7. I wonder if that's standard for all UK providers? Anyone else on other networks care to share current details?

Just go to "About Phone" in "Settings" , look for "Android Version" , if it says v2.3.4 then you have the latest firmware , if it says v2.3.3 then you have not!

Not necessarily. Many locales and/or carriers don't yet have an official 2.3.4 release, so for them 2.3.3 is still "the latest".

What does 2.3.4 have to offer over 2.3.3

Likely so little that it is not worth the trouble.

My SG2 has worked without flaw on 2.3.3 and I am not looking forward to chnaging until there a reason.

yeah there's not much really. although on the SGS2, the firmware running 2.3.4 has far superior battery life to anything i had on 2.3.3.. even if ur happy with ur battery now, u'll definitely notice an improvement.. n we should get google video chat on a 2.3.4 firmware sometime soon (im hoping) although u can flash that update even if ur on 2.3.3, if ur rooted. and in general, i found stuff to run a bit smoother on the newer firmware, on 2.3.4

It's odd really, I always assumed unlocked phones would get quicker updates, but seems with this phone, it's last lol

I am unlocked, bought on O2, but unbranded, and still on KF3. Works fine though so I suppose I have no problem waiting, just love seeing them updates lol

Same here O2 contract phone, unbranded/unlocked, just checked no update as yet, one thing I will say.....just had my S2 replaced (won't bore you with the details) but with the first S2 there was an update ready on Kies, straight out of the box, but with my new one, its up to date already out of the box, maybe a new batch of them have been released or something.

I got my S2 yesterday simfree i am using an O2 sim, It came with v2.3.3 , I did an update search on the phone and it said there was one, YES , I thought 2.3.4 , but after a full flash update my phone was still on 2.3.3 , maybe it was an O2 update

Another thread with a very misleading title.

Or is it just me?

I clicked to see if Official 2.3.4 firmware update via kies has finally arrived.
How can it be "Official" when it isn't even out yet?

Nobody else seems to have found the meaning difficult to grasp. The opening post does make the purpose quite clear.

However I'll edit the title to make it obvious to even a cursory glance.

I did have my samsung galaxy 2 running on android 2.3.3 but after installing villain rom 2.4.2 onto my device in the phone status menu it now says android version 2.3.4. Am I actually running android 2.3.4 or is this a mistake?

What does 2.3.4 do better than 2.3.3?

Does it fix bugs or add features or both.

Villain Rom comes with 2.3.4, so no it's not a mistake.

hey guys, i have a SGSi9003 (rooted).. still in the firmware 2.2, i'm from the Philippines. the Skies I installed via the original cd inside the box as i bought it. i tried to upgrade my firmware via kies, but didn't work.. no updates were available. then i tried via my phone, through settings and firmware updates, it didn't push through. is there any 2.3 firmware available for my SGSi9003 here in the Philippines? i don't wanna try Odin, I might brick my phone.

Thanks!

On a contract with ThreeUK:

Kies shows;

PDA: KF4
PHONE: KF2
CSC: KF1 (H3G)

*#1234# shows the same. (minus the H3G)

Still 2.3.3, but waiting patiently.

Quick question. How do you determine what the PDA, PHONE and CSC are? Is it in the settings sectiosn and if so what info is related to what? Eg is the 'baseband version' in phone settings the PDA, PHONE or CSC?

EDIT: DOH, just read your comment again and saw you found out that info from Kies.

EDIT 2: Just hooked up my phone and started kies but can't find the info that you found. Where is it in kies?

When the phone is connected, you'll see "Firmware Information" on the Basic Information page.

Under that, you'll see;

"Current firmware version: PDA:? / PHONE:? / CSC:?"

But you can also find out on the phone itself by going into the dialer like you normally would for a call, and entering: *#1234#.
A different page comes up with;

PDA: I9100 ?
PHONE: I9100 ?
CSC: I9100 ?

A different page comes up with;

PDA: I9100 ?
PHONE: I9100 ?
CSC: I9100 ?
Cheers mate. Found mine:

PDA KF3
PHONE: KE7
CSC KD1

I'm also with threeUK but I paid via buymobilephones.net. Wonder when they're going to pull their finger out an give us 2.3.4!

On O2 UK, nothing to report, just a quick question, if I check on my phone for software updates, will it detect a new update and if so, can I install it OTA? or is it all done through Kies?

Hi Evohicks, I spoke to O2 regarding this, they are still "checking" the 2.3.4 update and have no idee when it will be let loose!

Guys, i dont think i understand how it works.

I have unbranded phone. My network is T-Mobile.

Now, do i have to wait for T-Mobile to release update Through Kies and get Branded firmware, or am i waiting for Samsung to release it on Kies and have my mobile still unbranded?

Just stumbled across this thread. I am on Three (H3G) contract.

Went to Settings > About Phone > Software Update > Check for Updates

I then had to register with Samsung (email and password, took 1 minute) and an update was available. Downloaded over Wi-Fi in about 30 seconds. Just installing now.

What is in the update?

Unbranded = generic = update direct from Samsung.

Networks only come into the equation if the handset has a customised firmware, only found on handsets sold directly by the network (or a retail partner).
