I had a similar problem a few months ago, where it would reach 100% but keep on downloading something (and never stop). The only way I could find to solve it was to uninstall it and download the latest version from Samsung, seemed to solve the problem for me, but I'm not sure how easy it is to back up any settings/phone backups from Kies if necessary

Did you update Kies with the phone connected to the PC? Try without the phone. After update only join the USB cable.

I don't have any problem in updating.

Try without the phone connected to the PC (as Russell suggested)...

Follow the instructions shown clearly in your screenshot:-

Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB debugging... uncheck it to make it compatible with Kies.

Have you installed the latest version of Kies, see here:-

http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s2-international/527856-kies-pc-suite-updated.html

This comes with new drivers. If you have trouble connecting with this then use the Connection Troubleshooter under Tools and see if that helps.

The latest version of Kies has only been released in the last few hours I believe.
(Most recent versions of Kies start with 2.3... it's the last bit that counts)

For more help on connecting, see here:-

written by our very own Hawker, it has helped a lot of people.

EDIT It would appear you are not alone in your connection problems with Kies. Some useful suggestions are offered here:-

I believe that is one of Hawker's suggestions in the post I linked you to.

I can't really believe that you went through the whole procedure laid out in Hawker's post in under 12 minutes!

Just got the prompt to update Kies, updated and it still said it was on 2.2, so tried my own advice from earlier in this topic and uninstalled it. Downloaded the new version from Samsung's site, but the download file has the old version number as well. Looks like they're either slow rolling out the Kies update to all regions (slow updates are definitely not something we attribute to Samsung lately ), or they've completely messed up the update numbers somehow. I'll give it a day or so and try downloading it again. If anyone is having trouble with Kies and needs access to their phone, try the Airdroid app. Its like Kies air, but much faster and better in general.

Try this to install the MTP drivers.

Open Kies with phone disconnected and select Tools > Troubleshoot connection error

Follow the instructions precisely there to re-install your drivers... this can take a little while, so be patient.

If this does not work then I am at a loss as what to suggest further for you.

Getting a little confused...

1) You already managed to update the Kies to 2.3 right? And update without connecting the phone like I advise earlier. If that is the case, then at least that could help others.

2) I am assuming the error message with Kies is a different matter all together. Did you follow Ironass instruction and resolve it? Should work in my opinion. I know Kies can be pretty temperamental and sometimes a reboot of the PC and the phone, AND a reconnection is required to establish a connection.

3) Third, assuming the lack of MTP connection is another matter all together. For this, as long as you have Kies (for the drivers) in the PC, and you connect the USB cable, then you will get MTP connection. For this, you do not need to ON Kies. The PC might call it media connection, but to check if you have MTP connection, just go to your phone and check the notification bar. Or just go to My Computer (PC) and see if there is a phone icon there indicating its connected anyway.

Cheers

It might be useful if you published here, in detail, what you, "figured out", as it could help someone else with the same problem and is in the spirit of Android Forums sharing.

I too am having this very same problem.

I've followed all the instructions mentioned in this post right to the T and I'm still getting the problem.

- Uninstalled the application,
- Gone to Samsung's site and downloaded the latest version (2.3.0.12035_16),
- Restarted UPNP and Internet Sharing,
- Double checked it is not in USB debug mode,
- Turned off anti-virus and firewall,
- Checked that Kies is allowed through firewall,
- Checked device is being seen by laptop,

Nothing at all works. This isn't the first time that Kies has messed up after an update. Annoying as hell.

How did the OP resolve the problem (other than getting a new phone).

the first thing i did is i follow what u said.
un-install the kies
download the cc cleaner
run the cc cleaner to wipe out everything from kies
i deleted all of the samsung files on my PC, including the MTP hardware from my phone ( i think that is the main reason why the kies wont detect my phone coz the hardware get corrupted) all samsung files was gone.
install again the kies from the samsung website
kies ask to update for the latest version
when i connected my phone to kies BOOM it detects my phone right away
thanks a lot ironass.

The same one as you had.

Kies doesn't recognise my phone no matter what I do.

I've done everything this thread has advised and still no joy.

The error is:

"Cannot start service on the device. Please disconnect then reconnect the device."

I have just resolved the problem. It turns out that after doing all the above, a simple restart of the actual phone resolved the problem.

So to future readers, please ensure you actually restart your phone immediately after the update.

Hi all... great thread, with handy info.

I am trying to update an unlocked SGS II, currently on Android 2.3.4. Located in Australia.

I am using MooO ConnectionWatcher and System Monitor apps to track connectivity and traffic from the PC.

When I connect to Kies it has a popup saying the phone has new firmware available... clicking the Upgrade button takes me to the Basic Information page, with a section that says new Firmware is available, identifying my existing firmware (KI4/KI1/KH1 (DBT) ) and the Latest Firmware available LP7/LPS/LP5 (DBT)

Clicking the orange "Firmware upgrade" button does not appear to do anything other than Kies.exe establishing a connection to 119.31.248.197 (and opening SSL port 443) for about 60secs. I assume this is to an update server. The link times out with no transfer of any data.

The KiesTrayAgent.exe has a constant link to 119.31.248.90

I have re-installed Kies and updated it to latest version (2.3.0.12035_16) twice. PC and SGS II powered off numerous times. I have run the Troubleshoot Connection Error routine a few times and updated the USB drivers.

Anyone got any ideas??

Default Kies update

I see no posts on this updating issue recently: it is now August 2012.

Kies is telling me that there is an update of the software available from my current version of 2.3.2.12054_20 to 2.3.2.12064_10

It updates the software taking about 10 minutes and updating 271 files. But then is says i do not have the current version i.e. it has not actually updated the software.

1. My Phone is not connected
2. I have tried it as administrator and as a normal user on Microsoft Vista
3. I am based in the UK

Woulden't it just be easier to uninstall the old Kies version, and download the newest??

Best regards

I too have the same problem (have the very latest Kies software) and all the plava as mentioned above and still nought!

After googling the problem, I can see that it is 'something' to do with the CDC Serial Driver, however, this doesn't mean there is a solution thereafter (as I can't find a reliable source to down loads said driver). What it does tell me is that it might not be Kies, but either Windows recognizing the phone and it's drivers/ software OR Windows it's self (I have Win 7) - I believe it to be the later!

I'm open to any further advice and whilst I'm trying to find a solution, I will update you all hereafter (if I can)! Lol
