is this a branded firmware? all help is greatly appreciated...

Enter *#1234# in the dialer keypad and report what the "PDA" entry says, please. That will tell you which firmware you've installed.

I assume you flashed it with Odin?

XWLP7 is a generic (unbranded) EU firmware, yes.

If you updated via Kies you've nothing to worry about; it can't install a "wrong" firmware.
