Default Contacts - ICS update Samsung SII

Hi there

I did the ICS update on 23/05/2012. Last night I noticed that when recieving text messages from someone, although they were in my contacts list, the name did not display only the number. I then tried to restore a backup I did on 20/05/2012 via KIES (PC version) and only 47 of my 109 contacts restored.

I have tried running the restore multiple times and I get the same results.

Any suggestions please as I do not feel like starting from scratch?

Have a look and see which Contacts you have set to display...

Contacts > Menu > Contacts to display.... you may need to change your selections.

Hi ironass

Thanks for the tip. It added another 2 contacts only and is now displaying 49 contacts so I am still missing 60.

Check on-line in your Google Contacts and make sure they are still all there.

Hi ironass

Thanks again but I don't use Google to keep a backup of my contacts. I only have my Google Talk contacts on Google and those are about 10.

Unless I am misunderstanding you in which case I would not know where to look.

Just a thought that in...

Settings > Acounts and sync > Google

that you might have been automatically sync'ing your Contacts, Calendar, etc.

Hi ironass

Yeah that was one of the first things I checked as I do not want to sync any contacts from any source. I have de-activated the syncing of contacts on all my accounts. The only thing I sync is my Outlook Calendar for work.

I just dont understand why my KIES backup wont restore all my contacts. While it is restoring, it says in brackets - restoring (01 / 109) contacts and scans all the way up to 109 but when I DC the phone from the PC, only 47 show.

To be honest, I never use Kies if I can help it because I'm rooted and can use several other options.

Not that it helps you now but in future I would recommend to always keep a back-up of your Contacts on your external SD card by doing the following:_

Contacts > Menu > Import/Export > Export to Sd card

that way you have a handy back-up to restore.

(You mentioned that you sync your Calendar with Outlook... don't suppose you sync your Contacts as well?)

Hi ironass

Thanks for the tip. I see one can also export contacts into a CSV doc via KIES as well so maybe I should make multiple backups in future.

I dont use the contacts section in Outlook either so no joy there I'm afraid.
