Samsung Galaxy s2 4g connect to usb thumb drive

I recently purchased a Galaxy s2 4g phone from telstra and I want to connect it to a usb thumb drive with a data cable. There is no problem doing this with the previous 3g model of the same phone but with the 4g model the usb thumb drive is not recognised. Tried everything. Can anyone help? Cheers, Ros
