Default Abnormal Battery Drain Galaxy S2

I've had my S2 for about 5 months now, running the latest gingerbread, and I've been happy with it, battery has lasted over 12 hours with reasonable use (lots of texts, occasional games, youtube streaming from phones signal, not wi-fi). Recently started a long commute to a low signal area so I turn 3G off so it doesnt waste power, sometimes even turn flight mode on to conserve power even more. Today I did not use it much but almost as soon as I got to work, the phone got very hot away from the battery and rapidly losing charge, approximately 80% over a space of 2 hours, instantly losing 10% on 2 occasions.

I have no idea whats happening and any help would be appreciated.

I've had the same issue with my S2 - only started this week since I updated my apps.
Stupidly, I just hit the update all button and can't remember what apps were updated.
Did you update any apps this week and then find the battery drain started?

Also, is your phone heating up near the camera lens?

I am trying this recommendation to recalibrate my battery - **sry I can't post a link as a new member so you will need to search the forums**
search for "Here is the fix for your battery stat problem" and the thread is called "Support My samsung galaxy S2 batteries suddenly drain within hours!"
Find the reply posted by juo78 (on the 2nd page) for instructions.

I've also installed Juice Defender which has helped a bit until I can figure out the root cause...

Well, it looks like I've managed to fix this issue on my Galaxy S2. It took a while but this is what I did...
1.) Recalibrated my battery 3-4 times
2.) Installed Juice Defender
3.) Deleted all video files
4.) Renamed my media folders (Video, DCIM/Photos and Media/Music) to have a '.' in the front of them so that the media scanner would skip them (eg folder DCIM would become .DCIM)
5.) Uninstalled apps and games I didn't immediately need

I left my phone like this for a few days and the battery drain issue stopped. And then I did the following:

1.) I renamed the folders, removing the '.' (so .DCIM became DCIM again)
2.) Let the media scan complete a few times and also restarted the phone a few times
3.) Slowly reinstalled my apps via Google Play (you can see what apps you had previously installed which makes it easier to go back and re-add them).
4.) Put my video files back on the phone and let it do another media scan

Battery drain issue still fixed!

Weirdly, I didn't permanently remove any data or apps from the phone and only added Juice Defender and did the battery calibration so still not entirely sure what had caused the problem? My guess is that something I removed was corrupted and when I reinstalled/copied files back on the phone, it was a fresh copy without corruption.

This process did take a while but at least I didn't have to reset the phone back to the factory settings.

Default GS2 battery drain fixed!!!

I have been using Samsung GS2 for six months and recently been suffering from severe battery drain. I would get just 8-9 hours on a full charge with very light use.
Went through the Internet and searched forums and finally hit jackpot.

Here's wht I did:
1. Calibrated the battery. I let the battery drain completely and allowed the phone to automatically shut down. Then charged the battery from zero till 100 per cent.
I did it three times over a week.
The last time I did this, once my battery was 100 per cent, I removed the battery, waited for 5 minutes, reinserted it and switched on.

2. Turned location services off
Go to Settings, Location services:
Untick Google's location service
Untick GPS satellites
Untick Location and Google search
(Unless u r using Google Navigation a lot u dont need these)

Optional settings:
3. If u want to desperately save battery life...
Turn Auto Sync off:
Settings-Accounts and sync
Turn it off

4.Turn wi-fil off during sleep
Settings--wifi--Advanced (menu key) Keep wi-fi on during sleep ---Never

These steps hve worked for me, especially the first two, hope u guys will find them useful.

Thanks

I am sure I'm not the 1st or the last - but OM-gosh. I was prompted to upgrade my firmware on Kies to "CSC:LP6 (XFE)' have no idea what that means but ever since my battery life has reduced dramatically. I have used my S2 for about 6 months and the battery would last me the entire day - I barely get 6 hrs now.
What can I check or do? I have switched off everything I can think of; Sync on manual; WiFi off; Blue Tooth off; GPS off. Followed many of the suggestions on Fourm.
My data usage Android OS is 40% & screen on 18%. The rest is relatively low.

Try installing GSam Battery monitor,

http://goo.gl/eTPQO

It enables you to see how much battery is being used and by which app, so you see whats running your battery down. Its worth a shot. I'm no expert..
