Default annoying wifi issue

so a couple weeks ago i found out that my s2 won't reconnect to my home router unless i wake the phone up first. and this only happens when i come back from a certain location. for the longest time i coudln't figure out why.

then i found out that specific location has the exact ssid as my home ssid. therefore, s2 was confused which one to connect. my question is, does this happen to all android phones? i can change the ssid to something unique and problem solved. but if there's a million "dlink" routers near my house i'm gonna have problems

Yes. In fact it will affect ALL wireless devices. As Netgear describe it:

An SSID is a 32-character alphanumeric key uniquely identifying a wireless LAN.
The key word is "uniquely". Multiple APs broadcasting the same SSID are assumed to be part of the same network because that's what the IEEE 802.11 standard states.
