Default Silent mode, screen idle time and wi fi scanning

Hello all.

New android adopter coming from an iphone4.
Liking the phones screen size and brightness.

I do have 3 very strange issues with the phone so far.

The phone doenst stay silent for long.

If i set the phone to silent mode, either by lowering the volume to the lowest, or by pressing the power button to show the "silent mode" option or by pulling down the drop down menu to choose silent mode...The phone only stays silent at most to 30 minutes. I can hear the phone beep switching from silent to normal...Its kind of embarassing when your talking to people, thinking your phone is silent and it just rings or gives you a notification that you have received mail.

The other one is no matter what setting i choose for screen idle it always goes back to 30 .
seconds to idle. Stays for anfew minutes for the selected setting but reverts back to 30 secs

The other one is with the wifi connection off (pull down menu or from the settings menu), it still tries to find wifi connections. Im concerned that if it keeps doing that that it will drain the battery unnecessarily.

Thanks for your input in advance!
