Having the power button opposite side of the volume up/down button.
Everytime I go to put the phone to sleep I end up putting the ringer volume down. because you press on one and you end up pressing the other one too. I like having the power button on the top like I was used to on the Xperia X10.

yeah..you get used to it tho. All Sammy phones are this way. Just like the menu and home buttons being reversed.
Funny. I commented on the lame design of that layout on my Facebook page the day I bought the phone. There's a reason the two buttons are usually located on opposite axes. Tossing it in an OtterBox Commuter case solved the problem for me. It made it much more difficult to accidentally press the volume rocker while powering on/off.

I actually like the bottom charger. Its much better then the top charger location of the xperia x10 I had previous.
also I realized this is something annoying too.... the default volume of the beep tone when pressing numbers on the phone pad (when in speaker mode). Its VERY loud and abrasive. Almost sounds like its going to blow the speaker. Any way to nuetralize this? Sure you could quickly press the media volume down button but then your phone call I believe is lowered. is there a separate volume for the in call keypad?

Its on or off
Menu.settings.call. uncheck audible touch tones

Not normal at. Just tested on mine and when that is unchecked there are no tones at all. What are you accessing when it does this. It may be from the other end (automated system)

I had an experia x10 before also. i prefer the top charger because the phone can sit my cupholder while being connected to both aux & charger. Now to be connected to both I've gotta lay the phone on the console, and hope it doesn't go flying when I have to short stop.

Yes. Phone is awkward in my cupholder. I wish otterbox made some sort of car mount for my defender to clip in
Funny, I COMPLETELY agree with you. What were they thinking? It is extremely annoying and I keep lowering the volume accidentally. I like it all the way up and all times.
Why not put the power button on the top right??
Anyways,
I was browesing here for a few issues I will post and this was actually one of them. With that said, does anyone know how to disable the volume keys completely? I don't use them at all actually, not even when using my camera app.
I would suggest checking out some of the cases on Amazon. I have one from CaseMate and I have no problems with accidentally hitting the power or volume buttons.
I got a case for 4 bucks no shippping from asia for mine..very slim. its the cheap flimsy rubber slip on case. all the holes line up perfectly. found it on amazon or ebay or something. 4 bucks!!!
anyways speaking of design flaws, what the beep is up with the media scanner?! everytime I am in file manager and I go to delete a picture or video I can view another picture or video until the damn scanner is finished running which is about 10 seconds. Quite annoying. How come my last 2 android phones didnt have a media scanner?
I was thinking the same thing...what' up with this? Never seen this before with any other phone I've used. Everytime I boot up, it starts scanning everything and when I use Root tools to delete or move things around, it starts updating changes.

haha.. why?
Because you can see it happening.
It happens on any other device you just don't see it is some cases because it is done during boot....and that boot takes longer fyi
Hell its no different than when plugging in an external drive to windows...it scans the files making them available for use
Rom toolbox is awesome! Must have root app. It has got practically everything you need in a really nice interface. Don't think I would disable it though.
Tell me. How could a smartphone with all the features the sky has, not have a basic phone feature like voice dialing? I called Samsung C.S. and talked to them about this. I mean come on, i know it can do everything from text, web etc. but it is still a phone. I've tried a few apps but none seem to work well. Anyone have a suggestion?
To call a phone smart that lacks such a bacis feature isn't so smart.
What are you talking about dude?? lol Of course you can do voice dailing. Use the voice search tool. I do it all the time and it works great. If you have trouble using it, I suggest that you just go to the google site on the app and it will give you exact commands you can use. You can do practically anything with it.

I've used Vlingo and quite a few others. You have to pick up the phone and open the apps first. That is NOT hands free. With bluetooth you should be able to hit your call button on the bluetooth unit and simply say "Call ...". You should not have to fumble around with the phone. That is what I'm talking about.
Dude. seriously...what is wrong with you? You are so wrong. Stop putting the phone down and start doing some research and learn how to use it before making such posts. Honestly man, you really need some learning.
As Mr. Ed stated, Vlingo does work great but I personally prefer the standard voice search tool already available to you. It is so simply dude. Just press and hold that search key and give your command. That's all there is to it!
It doesn't matter what type of Bluetooth headset I use. It can be one of my expensive ones or a super cheap headset that was given to me along with a phone purchase. They all pair and work the same.
Seriously, there is absolutely NOTHING this phone can't do.
Take the time to learn and understand how your phone functions man. I think you really need to spend some time online researching this phone and Android functionality in general. In the end, you will likely have different thoughts.

Seriously, you can set Vlingo into car mode, so that all you have to say is "hey Vlingo" and it wakes up, then you say, "call _________" and it will call for you.
Also, after you use the phone for a short time, you will get used to the volume rockers and the power button. I had the Captivate before the Skyrocket and it is almost the exact same, the main change is the charger plug in at the bottom. That does throw me off a little but it isn't bad
It is funny, everytime I try showing something to my friends and when one of them holds the phone, they almost always turn off the screen lol and I have to turn it back on for them, yes that power button is annoying, should of been at the top.

i agree that the off button and volume rocker placement leads to accidental lowering of the volume. i downloaded "screen off and lock" app from the market. i now have the off button in my ADW launcher dock. much easier and remedies the volume issue.

Do what I did, buy a cheap Diztronic TPU case, when it arrives, take and exactl knife and cut out the volume area(it is covered by the case) and you now have recessed volume keys.
Ever since doing that, I have not hit the volume buttons on accident.

Brilliant idea Nesto1. I have the two piece Case-Mate with the soft rubber liner and hard plastic shell and was able to do exactly as you said. My volume key is recessed now so that no accidental change of the volume is possible.
However, I have the Samsung dock and I can't see grinding it up, plus it's back is taller and contoured...I guess I'll have to choose the lesser of evils
