Default Music and pictures gone

All of my pictures and videos disappeared. They are still on my device and I can access them through my file manager and my computer, but the gallery says no items and Google play music and all other music apps show no songs. I've turned it on and off, cleared the data from play music, attached it to my computer and moved stuff around to try and force a scan, and nothing helps. They are on my phone, not an sd card.

So I tried taking a screen shot, and it gave me an error message saying unable to save, usb storage may be in use. Maybe the phone thinks it is mounted or something and that's why no apps will recognize my media. No clue how to fix that though...
