Default Picture problems, just black box shows up with broken image

OK, I have just started having issues with my picture gallery on my phone for some reason? Lately when I go to my galley for any reason, I just have a black box with a broken image appearing where my picture should be. I click on it and nothing happens. I have not deleted any of my pictures lately, or installed anything to do such a thing. I am not sure when this problem started, I just noticed it yesterday. I have restarted my phone and it did not work. Is there an app I can download to fix this? I need help ASAP!! Thanks! Here is a screen capture to show you the image that pops up.

Hmmm ..

Two possibilities immediately spring to mind:

The most likely is that phone doesn't have enough free memory (or possibly just regular storage) to display the images.

To see if this is the issue, free up some memory and/or storage - e.g. clear all caches, move some apps to SD storage (if you have that option), uninstall some apps that are taking lots of memory.

You could try these, see if it helps. Clearing caches and moving apps to SD storage doesn't hurt and it's no big deal re-installing apps if it doesn't help.

If the problem is regular storage, you will need to remove some files - photos, music etc - to free up space. Try shifting them to a PC.

Alternatively, there's a small chance that the photo files have been corrupted. Easiest way to check that would be to connect to a PC, copy the files over and see if they look OK.

I get this when I try to open most images from an email. I get a black screen with a outline of a guy with a lightning bolt through him.
