I've been using the 'official' ICS 4.0.4 on my AT&T Skyrocket for awhile now. I remember reading that Samsung has been preparing to roll out JB (probably 4.1) to S2 family devices... probably after JB for S3 family makes it out.
The Skyrocket was released in Nov 2011, so when Key Lime Pie (has KLP been accepted as abbreviation yet?) 5.0 comes out in Q2 this year, the Skyrocket will still be under 2 years old, so its *possible* Samsung and AT&T will get it together and put out one last firmware after this *hopefully* upcoming JB release.
I haven't loaded it on my Skyrocket yet, but CyanogenMod has ICS and JB 4.1 supported with stable builds. No nightlies are available yet for JB 4.2 (CM10.1) for this device. With the couple Android phones I've rooted, the 3rd party firmware community seems to support at least one release past the last 'official' firmware... so that might extend your device's 'freshness'
So... I'd expect at least JB 4.1... and hope for KLP 5.0 support either through a late official or 3rd party firmware. If you can get it cheap, its a nice device. Generally more stable than my old Captivate. Best of luck!
