Default HSPA+42 speeds

I live in an HSPA+42 city, and I spent the better part of today setting up my new Samsung Galaxy S2. One of the first apps I installed was Speedtest.net. Here are some statistics for 26 tests at various locations*. The first number is the ping, then download, then upload:

Lowest:
69 ms 4.88 1.12
Highest:
40 ms 26.31 3.60
Average:
61 ms 13.11 2.09

In addition to those tests, I did four tests standing under what I'm pretty sure is a T-Mobile tower. I got pings down to 35 ms, downloads up to 30.65 and uploads up to 4.2. I found a very interesting phenomenon while conducting the tests under the tower. If I held the SGS2 inline with the tower I got substantially better results than if I held it perpendicular to the tower. Consider the following graphic for clarification:

* = tower, while _ and | = handset

| * bad results
_ * good results

Latest News | T-Mobile | STATEMENT: T-Mobile?s 4G Network Now Even Faster in Nearly 100 Markets Across the Country

Unfortunately I haven't found a more up to date article, but this one isn't too old. I suspect some of the markets with 21mbps have already been upgraded to 42mbps.

EDIT: here's a newer article - JULY instead of the JUNE article above, you probably have to read both to know all of the cities with 42mbps.
