Default Video editing trouble - 23 fps

I've had my S2 for a few months now but just dumped some videos onto a desktop to edit (trim, combine with others, etc) and have discovered my normal video editing tools (MPEG Streamclip, Sony Vegas Pro 10) don't like the videos - the videos are read as a solid white image (no picture) - with the video's sound. So I looked at the properties of the videos and noticed that they're all recording at 23 fps (recorded 1080) instead of the 29/30 I was used to seeing with my Captivate.

I did some searching and found a lot of complaints about a firmware problem with the S2 and the varying/inconsistent framerate and dropped frames - especially in questionable light (these videos were in decent light though). I can live with varying frame rates - the videos still play okay either on my phone or on my PC. But I need to be able to edit them.

I took a quick video at 720 in a relatively dark room today just to test and the fps was 29. I don't know if I can depend on 720 or if I just got lucky.

Anyone else run into this and have a solution for editing with the reduced frame rate?

Thanks

edit to add

I ran one of the video files through Windows Live Movie Maker - it actually read it. I don't think of MM as a converter, and don't ever really use it when I have Vegas Pro available. But my daughter plays around with MM because it's easier for her.

I'm not sure of the quality compared to Streamclip or being able to pull the videos directly into Vegas (with regards to lossless format), but at least I can do something with the files.
