Default Discussion I had this morning with Samsung Support

This is a discussion I had this morning with Samsung Support regard the release of ICS for the Samsung Galaxy S2 sgh-i777 through Samsung Kies. I thought I would share it with everyone:

Samsung
Timestamp: 0800 Hours

Pamela: Hi, thank you for contacting Samsung Technical Support. How may I help you today?

Visitor: I have a AT&T Samsung Galaxy S2 SGH-i777 and I'm wanting to know why the Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) update is unavailable through Samsung Kies version 2.3.2.12054_20? It was available for a short time on Friday, but has since disappeared. Sources on the internet said ICS would be available on Saturday, but it is still currently unavailable through Kies. When will the ICS update be available to AT&T Samsung Galaxy S2 SGH-i777 owners?

Pamela: Please allow me to go through the inquiry.

Pamela: Thank you for holding.

Pamela: I understand that you would like to know the information regarding the Android 4.0 upgrade on the handset, am I correct ?

Visitor: Yes

Pamela: Thank you for confirming.

Pamela: I would like to inform you that Android 4.0 Icecream Sandwich is planned for your phone. However, dates have not been determined. Should this become available, it will be posted on our Website in the Samsung Download Center.

Visitor: Why was it release for 8 hours through Kies last week?

Pamela: I am sorry, the previous release was the test update from AT&T.

Visitor: Was it a failure

Pamela: I am sorry, we don't have information in this regard as it is a release from AT&T, however as mentioned in the above statement the update is planned for the device, and you can check with the below link for the update release.

Pamela: SAMSUNG (Click on the "SAMSUNG" link to see devices that will receive updates)

Visitor: Samsung said last December in a press release that the update was planned.

Pamela: I am sorry, I have provided you with all the information that is available regarding the update.

Current Phone: AT&T Samsung Galaxy S2 shg-i777

I was recently able to get the ICS 4.0.3 update through Kies. One the update was installed, the performance is slower and glitchy. When I try to scroll from page to page or up and down through menu's, it feels slow and glitches. When I touch the camera icon, it takes a second or two before it activates. When I exit out of the camera, it I see a blank home screen and a few seconds later, the icons are added. ICS is supposed to be faster and smoother. The version supplied by Kies on Sunday evening has bunches of bugs and is slow. I though it was the launcher. So, I tried GO Launcher and NOVA Launcher. Both launchers had the same issues as the Stock launcher supplied by AT&T on ICS.

Does anyone have any work-arounds around these issues? I'm currently disappointed with ICS!

What are everyone's else's reactions with the AT&T ICS release?

try restarting a couple times and if that doesn't work do a factory reset.

I'm having the same issue. Very glitchy and slow. I'm not liking the new update.

I thought i was crazy - all the stuff we b*tched about with 2.3.6 was going to be fixed with this upgrade, which makes things faster, cleaner, etc. It is in some respects. The voice recognition is materially better in terms of understanding me. Navigation works much better (faster finding of satellites).
I'm seeing occasional freezes. It's happened on too many apps to believe it's an application problem. I believe it to be fuggy firmware - although I have no empirical data on this.

Also - I was under the impression ICS allowed for the user to determine how many (up to 5) apps to "anchor"? I can only do 4 or less. Did I miss an important step?

To those of you who haven't updated (not sure it's an actual upgrade), don't stress. You're going to do a lot of work reorganizing home pages, and another update may be just around the corner.

Cheers,
L.

I was having the same bugs you mentioned until I got rid of Touchwiz and replaced it with one of the Go ICS Themes. When I open the phone keybad and make calls there's a <= 1 second delay. Overall, I did notice some improvement in replacing Touchwiz. Maybe this can help you, too.

Everyone seems to be having different experiences with ICS. For me, GoLauncherEX was running noticeably slower than TW, so I disabled it. Granted, I miss all the functionality of GoLauncher, but I care more about the smooth transitions and fast response times I get with TW.

Default yuuhooo...where have all the android masters gone?

I've posted this situation for on several forums and in several places over the past three days and not received even 1 response. Please have mercy on me and tell me something to do about losing my browser and google search after I did the ICS install. I don't think I can live without being able to google search. I can go to utube and other functions that use internet and my gmail comes in fine but when I click on browser I get a white screen and in about 7 seconds I get the home page again. Any help would be appreciated. I'd be happy to go back to gingerbread. Yaa...obviously a rookie. Have mercy.
