You download a third party launcher app. Seriously, our version of ICS doesn't have that feature.

If you want the ICS lock screen with the ability to launch any apps from the unlock gesture, try WidgetLocker.

I second widegetlocker. I can't live without it. I use it to unlock straight to camera, change volume/brightness, send an auto-text to my wife, open email, IMO, MMS, etc etc. All with 1 swipe of the lock screen. It can also display widgets.

Thanks for the replies.

How is it that our version (4.0.3) does not have that feature?

This endgadget article is dated December 1, 2011 (which I am assuming makes the version featured int he article 4.0.2 considering the release date of 4.0.3 was a few days later) and states that having it on the lock screen is a feature: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich review -- Engadget

Also, does widgetlocker takt he place of a launcher? I am currently messing with Apex and Nova.

Thanks!

No, Widgetlocker only replaces the lockscreen and doesn't effect the launcher.

That was a review of the Gnex. That's pretty much pure Android ICS. You'd have to ask Samsung and AT&T why they chose the Honeycomb lockscreen fro the update. I've never seen it in person as I've been running a custom rom with widget locker for months.

There are settings for the lockscreen under menu>settings>security, but I don't know if you can configure the slide lock from there or just assign pin or pattern. Sorry.

Just figured out a way to directly access the camera from a password/pattern secured lockscreen last night after digging around for an answer to this same question.

I use Vignette quite a bit as my main camera app- it has an option in the settings menu to "Keep screen unlocked" (Prevent the screen from locking while Vignette is open) which I always have enabled. This makes it so when walking around taking photos I could have direct access to the camera without having to go through a lock screen. Downside is that Vignette stays open all the time.

Figured out that a nifty side-effect of whatever voodoo they do to keep the phone unlocked also makes the app usable via Widgetlocker, even when the phone is locked via a pattern lock.

Install Vignette, make sure "Keep Screen Unlocked" is enabled in the options menu, make Vignette a custom slider in Widgetlocker, and voila, you have direct access to a camera app via Widgetlocker even if a pattern lock is enabled on the phone. I also have images saving to the external SD card- not sure if that setting would matter or not.

It's not a universal solution, but for those that just want quick direct access to a good camera app via the lockscreen, it works.
