Default AT&T Galaxy S2 using Straight Talk many many problems..

Hey guys Im going to try to explain everything that I can, and maybe I can fix a few of these problems.

First of all I bought a used Galaxy S2 that is a at&t phone. I noticed some "non factory" apps so I decided to do a factory reset. First thing I noticed when I done a factory reset, was when it started booting up to the getting started page it was in some language that I have never seen before..I was able to change it to US and log into my google account. Im not sure what that was all about. After all of that is finished I look and the same apps are still on my phone, just a few random games and a couple that are in that weird looking language. Also the "back" and "search" buttons do not work, they light up but I have to hit "home" to go back.

Well I previously had a at&t iphone 3g also using straight talk, I removed the card and inserted it into my galaxy and powered off then on. I was able to send and receive texts, I was able to call and recieve calls but I could not hear them and they could not here me. I also could not pick up any network, EDGE or 3G. I rememberd that I had to change a few things on my iphone that came with the instructions with my straight talk sim. So I made the same changes to my galaxy;

Name: Straight Talk
APN: att.mvno
Proxy: proxy.mvno.tracfone.com
Port: 80
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.33
MMS Port: 80

After this I still have the same problems, except now my galaxy shows I am on the EDGE network at my home, which is normal.

I called the guy I bought the phone from and he said he never had any of those problems with the phone...
Here is some of the Info on my phone, I really hope there is nothing wrong with it and maybe some of you guys can point me in the right direction.

MODEL NUMBER: GT-I9100
ANDROID VER: 4.0.4
BASEBAND VER: I9100XXLQ6
KERNEL VER: 3.0.15-I9100XWLPM-CL837163
dpi@DELL145 #3
SMP PREEMPT Thu Jul 5 11:26:14 KST 2012
BUILD NUMBER: IMM76D.XWLPM

ok, well after updating my apn settings, I can now mms and connect to 3G, E, H, and H+? Not for sure what the H means, but it was just as fast as my friends iphone4 with him having 4g. I connected to Kies to see if I can update my firmware and it says Your device does not support firmware updating via Kies. I am so confused guys, I do not have a clue what to do. Its almost like this phone is not an american version, or the previous owner has messed with it to cause these problems. I hope someone can get with me soon about this.

The i9100 is the international version and the "H+" stands for HSPA+ which is the infrastructure some GSM phone carriers such as AT&T and T-Mobile use.

Which straight talk sim card is in the phone?

Its possible that the sim doesn't support the phone's frequencies. Need to make sure its compatible before u put a sim in a phone.

I am using the same sim card that i used in my iphone3g. Everything works except the whole voice thing during calls. I will call straight talk tomorrow and see if the samsung requires a different sim. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.

Based on the symptoms you're describing (voice issues, buttons not working), it's apparent that the incorrect firmware (meant for the i9100/International Galaxy SII) is installed on your phone. Fortunately, it's relatively easy to can return it to the stock condition if you're willing to go through the procedures in this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1313659.

Otherwise, you could try contacting the seller and request a refund because he was BS'ing you.

So you don't think that my phone is i9100 but has that flashed to it? When I hold the down and power buttons it comes up:

ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: GT-I9100
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: YES (3COUNTS)
CURRENT BINARY: SAMSUNG OFFICIAL

Which means it has been flashed 3 times? Im pretty sure my phone was released in June of this year, so im not sure if it came with 4.0.4 or if someone updated it to that. It is just weird that when I factory reset the phone it downloads these few apps that say they are saved in the usb memory, I assumed that when I hit reset it cleared it all.

I am new to all of this and its hard to take it all in. I have searched for 5 days to find similar problems to give me an idea, Im only getting closer. Thanks, for the link Im going to go do some reading now.

-You can verify your model number by taking off the battery cover, removing the battery, and reading the label underneath. If it's an AT&T GS2, then it's the model number will be i777. Also, this is what the i9100 looks like:

The 3 buttons vs the 4 buttons on the AT&T version is the reason you have to hit the home button to go back. Also, the microphones on the 2 models are reversed, hence you or the other caller are unable to hear each other.

-When the flash counter has been tripped 3 times, it means that non- factory firmware was installed at least 3 times, if not more.

-All factory reset does is delete the data files (google, app, and phone settings) and return the phone to the stock condition of the firmware currently installed on the phone. The reason the weird apps return is because the "stock" firmware that is installed on your phone is based on firmware from another country. (I believe Russia based on the I9100XWLPM label in the kernel)

-But like I said in my previous post, just follow that link and you can return to gingerbread and get your buttons and audio working again. Then, you can either update the official way or decide to install a custom rom.
