Angry Galaxy S2 "Insufficient storage available"

I have seen many fixes for this problem and none of them have worked. This started when i started up my phone and Pandora Radio was missing from everywhere. Usually a fix involves clearing the cache or uninstalling and re-installing the application, however I cant uninstall it to re-install it, I never uninstalled it and now it's suddenly gone. So when I try to re-download Pandora I get the "Insufficient storage available" error.

I have also searched my SD and connected my phone to the computer to maybe find something of Pandora left over and to no avail. It has completely disappeared.

Welcome dragoon!
Which carrier to you have as there are many different forums for the S2 here
Although I am not familiar with your device, is there a place that you can view the internal memory used/available? How many texts/emails do you save?

Weird indeed it's not in your app drawer? Or can you long press on the home screen to add an app or widget and then search for Pandora?

Welcome to AF, dragoon105 .

It's funny you posted this, but a co-worker today had a similar issue with trying to update one of the Google apps that appeared with an update notice.

He's got an SGS3, tons of apps on his phone, but lots of available space as you also described.

The fix for him was to clear cache for a few other apps (like the Browser and at least another one that had a large cache amount). Clearing cache for the app in question didn't seem to matter (like I think you had mentioned).

So, scan a few of your other apps for large cache consumers and see if clearing them helps you be able to update / install Pandora.

Also, let us know if you mind if we move your thread to one of the SGS2 areas--we like to try to keep things tidy around here .

Cheers!

So i tried everything, clearing various cache in my market and others, and for the searching for Pandora nothing shows up. It is completely gone but i think my phone still thinks it's there.

Just for fun, when you are on your computer, and you log into the play store, does it say that Pandora is installed? If not, try to download it from from there.

Okay, do you have and/or know how to use the adb utility on your PC?

If so, we could try to list it's apk and/or re-uninstall it from the adb command:

Quote:
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]
Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

[first, let's see if the the Pandroid .apk is actually installed]

C:\Users\Scary Alien>adb shell ls -a -l /data/app/com.pandora.android-1.apk
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *

-rw-r--r-- system system 5148686 2012-12-15 16:43 com.pandora.android-1.apk

[next, let's force the un-install from the adb utility]

C:\Users\Scary Alien>adb uninstall com.pandora.android
Success
If you don't have adb installed, ping me back here and I'll tell you how to grab a quick, small version that will allow you to try the above.

Okay, but we can at least try the forced/manual un-install just in case:

1. Download sdk-tools.zip taken from here:

from the "Mini-SDK (contains adb and fastboot utilities for Windows, Mac, and Linux)" section of this thread:

http://androidforums.com/faqs/443072-adb-guide-updated-12-05-2011-a.html

2. Follow the instructions for extracting the .zip to its own directory, then start-up a Windows Command Prompt (if you're using Windows) and cd (change directory) to the directory/folder where the files were extract to

3. Hopefully, you've got the proper adb USB drivers installed and an "adb devices" command will return your device's serial number like this:

Quote:
C:\Users\Scary Alien> adb devices
List of devices attached
1234567890123456 device

C:\Users\Scary Alien>
4. Issue the adb uninstall com.pandora.android command to force an un-install of the Pandora app

No guarantees this will do anything other than rule this out as a solution.

Let me know if you have any questions!

List of devices attached is blank, I don't think I have the correct USB drivers for it so it isn't showing up. Sorry for late response, lots of things going on.

No worries...this is a semi-longshot anyways (I feel like we're missing some obvious key detail...).

You could try this Samsung Naked USB drivers from the folks over at XDA:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1379875

Here's another site: Download SAMSUNG Android ADB Interface Driver 2.9.317.215 for Vista/Windows 7/Windows 8 Driver for Windows Vista / Windows Vista64 / Windows 7 / Windows 7 x64 / Windows 8 / Windows 8 x64 - Softpedia

I've also heard that the PDAnet drivers work very well:
If prompted, specify "Samsung" as your device manufacturer; you can also un-install PdaNet itself afterwards, but leave the USB drivers intalled.

I think I installed all the drivers right, I got my device to show up, I put in adb uninstall com.pandora.android, it finished and I still can't install Pandora. Same error as before, "Insufficient storage available."

Mind if I butt in? Would it help if he started to clear cache from his apps in "manage applications"?

No worries, Mike, I think I was really the one late to the party .

I thought / think we already suggested this unless I misunderstood dragoon105's response (would love for it to be something simple, LOL).

LOL, it's better to thorough and double-check things, eh?

There's a ton of good ideas here for dragoon105 to read through:

Insufficient Storage Available Error message in Google Play when installing

Let us know if anything works.

Oh, wow--sorry 'bout that .

You could have saved root with OTA RootKeeper (or another app that I'm very familiar with ).

Hope it easy to re-root.

I'll keep thinking about this and keep an eye out. Please let us know if you try any of the various things listed in the XDA thread that I listed above--there truly were a lot of ideas in there (but you may have already tried most of 'em).

I was having a similar issue a couple weeks back. Though I had only used half my internal storage, I still couldn't copy anything :-/ I downloaded DiskUsage App and found that there is this LOST.DIR directory with about 6 GB in files. I read online about it and decided to delete it. Free space again! I don't know if this was your problem, but I didn't read anyone mention it. Seems that the phone makes these files when you connect to computer (in case there is a disconnect without "safe disconnect"). After a reboot, the LOST.DIR folder will come back but it'll stay empty.

Lightbulb another possible solution for insufficient space for Pandora installation

I stumbled upon the same problem: Pandora (!) would not install. Other apps, no problem.

Just to be sure I also removed my ExtSdCard from my phone to make certain it is NOT a link2SD problem...
That said, I tried many Pandora installation via Aptoide. All bloated with advertisements, non-removable - even with Ad Blockers (All downloads for current (July 2013) ad blocker Android apps + some extra tools) installed. The installation name for these Pandora versions was "Nouns" anyways... :s

So when looking for more "legal" versions with AppBrain, I suddenly found myself unable to install Pandora! Insufficient space! WTF... On Samsung Galaxy S3, the siii with 32GB or storage + equal ExtSdCard. Wiping cache did nothing. Resetting permissions rendered my phone useless (long live Nandroid backup!:).

Other solutions* I tried did not solve it either.

So this is what I did...

Start a terminal
Type:
su
find /system /data -name *pandora*

There I found:
/data/media/0/Android/data/org.blackmart.market/cache/icons_inst/5/c/4/com.pandora.android.gtv
/data/media/0/Android/data/org.blackmart.market/cache/icons_inst/5/c/4/com.pandora.android.gtv/com.pandora.android.gtv.11.png
/data/media/0/.aptoide/apks/org.fit009c.pandoraadblocker..apk
/data/media/0/.aptoide/apks/com.pandora.android.gtv..apk
/data/media/0/.aptoide/apks/com.pandora.android.5.2.apk
/data/media/0/.aptoide/apks/com.pandora.android..apk
/data/media/0/.aptoide/apks/com.pandora.android.1.6.apk
/data/media/0/.aptoide/apks/com.pandora.android.gtv.1.3.1.apk
/data/data/com.aura.ringtones.aurabusiness/files/pflx_res/js-client/html/pandoraOffers.html
/data/data/com.aura.ringtones.auratechnoremix/files/pflx_res/js-client/html/pandoraOffers.html
/data/data/com.aura.ringtones.aurapopularfunny/files/pflx_res/js-client/html/pandoraOffers.html
/data/data/com.aura.ringtones.auraexotic/files/pflx_res/js-client/html/pandoraOffers.html
/data/app/com.pandora.android-1.odex

And this last line got my attention.

Being old-school, I just did this to "fix" the insufficient space problem...

su
cd /data/app
rm com.pandor*

Happy installing and...

Peace!!

Devvie

Welcome to the AndroidForums, devnullius .

Good info up there ^^^ .

But we should point-out to folks that you've got to be rooted to remove the files as described above, so this won't apply to the vast majority of folks.

Cheers and thanks!
