I didn't say I'm used to a 4.3" screen - I said I've come around to the idea. LOL - I've got a HTC Desire with 3.7" display...
So yeah, maybe a 4.7-4.8" screen would be pushing it.
You see, you say the xperia S screen is smaller than the SII, and yet the experia S has an amazing 720p display, and the SII has only 800x480 which is exactly the same resolution as my Desire but just with larger pixels. So why aren't there more screens around like the one the xperia S is sporting right now.
But I've been spoiled by my Desire's AMOLED display, and I can't find anything I want to replace it with yet.
Haha my bad. I've got a desire too by the way and I don't exactly have big hands.
I guess you're out of luck if you find the larger screen size more of an annoyance to use.
I'll just leave you with one picture though:
The xperia S is pretty close in physical size to the the One X yet there is a 0.4" difference in screen size. I can't see the actual physical form factor being an issue for you then but if you think you can accept the 4.3" 5:3 screen of the S2 which is more in line with a 4.5" 16:9 screen then you got to pick between going that tiny bit larger or that tiny bit smaller when transitioning to a 16:9 screen.
there's zero chance it'll be stock. touchwiz 4 isn't that bad though, i expect the same from touchwiz 5
I'm hoping that Sammy have put Steve Kondik to good use on touchwiz. For those of you who don't know who he is, he's the lead developer of cyanogenmod and was hired by samsung mobile as a software engineer. His work could of course gone towards Tizen of Bada or samsung apps but let's hope he's added some nice touches to touchwiz.

I'm honestly surprised there have been no 11th hour rumors thus far. I was sure something would leak out this morning but things have been pretty boring so far today. That's one thing I give Apple. We don't seem to have the same level of hoopla that an iDevice launch does. We're close but not quite. 2 PM EST needs to hit now. I hope we get a nice version on Sprint.
This launch is not nearly as large as the Gnex launch, had Verizon marketing gotten behind it you may have even seen something close to an apple event. The equivalent forum post here had 90k posts by launch time.

The power of Verizon! lol. Google did bend over backward to accommodate Verizon so that it would carry the GNex.

well, Verizon has a GIANT marketing impact on the mobile world; and they spent very little if anything on the Gnex launch. All advertising was paid for by sammy or Google.
Verizon also caused launch delays as they bickered with google about preloaded apps and google wallet, which ended up getting removed from the phone because it competed directly with ISIS.

Until Google allowed an exploit to exist to install from the market of course. Google Wallet is my favorite thing about my phone. Will be hard to go with the GS3 if I can't shoehorn Wallet onto it somehow.

The site has changed from yesterday - it now plays the first trailer automatically. Yesterday it would just show the invite picture.
Capping months of rumors and speculation, Samsung has announced its Galaxy S III smartphone at an event in London today. Major specs include a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED display at 720p resolution, 8-megapixel primary and 1.9-megapixel front-facing cameras with burst and best-shot modes (similar to the HTC One series), 16 or 32GB of storage (a 64GB version is coming later) with microSD expansion, Bluetooth 4.0 support, high-throughput 40MHz 802.11n Wi-Fi, NFC, and a relatively large 2,100mAh battery. Processor specs aren't mentioned, but it's widely understood that the global version of the device will be using the recently-announced Exynos 4 Quad quad-core system-on-chip — regional variants could be using alternatives, just as the Galaxy S II did.
The hardware seems incremental over the Galaxy Nexus released late last year, but Samsung's touting some fascinating software customizations — an emphasis on "natural interaction," it says — that'll debut in the S III. First off, Smart Stay uses the front-facing camera to monitor your eyes and maintain a "bright display for continued viewing pleasure." S Voice is a customized voice recognition system that allows the phone to recognize a variety of commands at any time — as an example, Samsung says you can simply say "snooze" to shut off your alarm when it goes off or "direct call" to dial someone that you're in the middle of texting. S Beam, meanwhile, is an enhanced version of the Android Beam system that launched in Android 4.0 and allows large files to be transferred between phones quickly — a 1GB file within 3 minutes, for instance. Something called "Pop up play" lets the user watch a video anywhere on the screen while continuing to use other apps, good for watching a video attachment without leaving your email.
Samsung is also enhancing its DLNA-based AllShare media sharing system with a few additional modes. AllShare Cast allows content on the phone to be immediately sent to a compatible display; AllShare Play lets you send media "regardless of the distance between devices," suggesting that it may route content through the internet to reach its destination. The most intriguing mode may be what Samsung is calling "Group Cast," which shares your phone's screen with other users on the same network and allows them to annotate and add comments — good for an ad-hoc presentation with coworkers, for instance.
There's no word on carriers or pricing, but Samsung says that Europeans can look for the Galaxy S III to launch at the end of May; other markets around the world will follow after that.
By now you should already know that the brand-spanking-new Samsung Galaxy S III sports a 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED display. That's right: no "plus" here, which means this 720p panel is featuring the same old PenTile RBGB pixel arrangement -- just like the 4.65-inch version on the Galaxy Nexus and the Galaxy S II HD LTE. Needless to say, this is again pure ammunition for the folks over at LG; but as we've mentioned before, HD Super AMOLED's superb contrast and higher-than-before pixel density outweigh its shortcomings in most cases.
For now though, let's examine these sub-pixels with a 230x zoom USB microscope and compare them with other phones that we have in hand. Starting off with the HTC One X's 720p SLCD 2 above, you can see how its denser sub-pixels produce a finer picture, but ultimately it's still behind HD Super AMOLED when it comes to contrast, especially with black. Read on for more comparisons.
and if you're wondering if its a big deal, not really. i have the galaxy nexus and its a pretty awesome screen. but if you look close enough, you can see the pentile. but hey, this is supposed to be better, so meh
