I will ask. Given past history this would mean I very well could have device in hand as early as some time in late Feb/March

at one time he did tell me mid 2012 (early December I think is when I posted that btw..not that this is a race, but hey)

Our conversation this last Saturday, and again on Monday just prior to the press release on the Note was simply "before Christmas"

"Got your pm. No way no how. Samsung HQ issued a statement that it will not be announced at mobile world congress. Even if it makes int. debut in April, it won't come stateside until summer/fall."

But he could be off. So far he hasn't been off by more than a week

" To clarify, yes announcement may happen just after Barcelona but product will not be available yet. Specs will probably be close. That's pretty much the direction of the evolution."

Damn that's going to be a long wait...if that's true. Looks like I'm going to have to hold on to my EVO just a bit longer. I'm still hoping for summer. Lol

Sorry if I missed it, but did you get any info on the processor in SGSIII from your source?

There are still speculations on both quad Exynos 4412 and dual A15 Exynos 5250. I was assuming Exynos 4412 based on MWC announcement schedule. But now they pushed it back a little toward summer, I think Exynos 5250 is possibility too. And like SGSII, there might be other processor versions as well like S4 snapdragon depending on the wireless standards of carriers.

I would like to know this as well. I'm hoping its the A15 Exynos 5250.

Way too early at this point.

on past devices I was only able to confirm speculation once the device was in hand by running some specific tests.

My favorite that I found was "android dump"

it is one of the only methods I found so far that clearly lists the exact processor

believe it or not this guy doesn't know much about phones lol

the biggest question will be how they new exynos accommodates lte ....so far that has been an issue

I caught a rumor today that the s3 won't be worth waiting for.

Highly unlikely it will be quadcore due to heat issues. minimal changes

I did not catch any device specks ie he couldn't give any.

Something along the lines of heat being an issue with quad

On the bright side it should have an hd screen, and should be larger than the skyrocketed but smaller than the note.

From the little bit of info I was able to grab my guess is that the skyrocketed hd that was shown at ces
Will be released as the s3

Wow not worth waiting for? Well if they are going with dualcore then they will be going for the A15 Exynos 5250. Right? I'm sorry but the GS3 is very anticipated and I find it hard to believe it will be a let down. Nothing against you Ed. I thank you for all the info you give us. But I think he didnt want to give you the real goods.

Trust me I don't take it personally...I am just a dude on the webs

You have to remember..those of us that anticipate based on specs aren't the top % of purchasers...

It would be a first though...and he was pretty adamant

He did not however give ANY detailed specs, he could lose his job. other than 1 (proc) he was very vague and could not confirm much.

I wouldn't be surprised though if it is a 1.5 snapdragon with a 4.65 720 HD screen and LTE....

He knows I really really want a Note, but would be waiting on the S3...he told me not to wait lol.

The good news is that it sounded like we won't be waiting very long for the S3 to be released, when asked "sooner or later" he responded sooner so we will see.

So basically this is like a Galaxy Nexus without stock. Well I'll just wait till we find out the official specs. Regardless, this will definitely be an upgrade compared to my EVO.

I don't know about your source and no offense to him. But I don't think it will have the same spec as skyrocket HD, that just doesn't make sense at all. So, Samsung has been developing it from summer last year to only come out with the spec of last year? If it's true, SGS3 will be huge disappointment and miserable fail.

HTC, LG are already going ahead with 40nm quad Tegra3 phones to be announced at MWC, which will surely have some heat issues. But 32nm Exynos (be it 4412 or 5250) should be better than that on heat. If it's dual, it must be exynos 5250 or new S4 snapdragon at least.

Exactly! I found that troubling as well. I mean Samsung is having their own event for a very anticipating phone. It has to be better than those specs.

They might do 'triple' core, have dual A15s and a smaller CPU for low powered stuff, similar to what the Tegra 3 does.

Battery and heat...phone size trying to accommodate the two.

I could see where you guys are coming from tho

I was looking forward to it too.

Btw..he has been spot on so far on all of the sammy releases for the past 6 months.

I will continue to update. he of course works there...and I joined the new device pre release testing team

My speculation on the skyrocket is exactly that...strictly me thinking out loud

You have a phone: skyrocketed hd...that no one has heard of at the Samsung mobile office

And

You have a phone that they are aware of ...the S3...that sources say is not going to live up to rumors and speculation

Like i said tho...he in a round about way he said the device would be coming much sooner then we thought originally.

considering the att note is using a snapdragon and is much slower than the exynos, and that samsung has decided to follow apple and do their own announcement instead of mwc, i would hope that your friend is finally wrong. because what you're describing sounds like a bag of hurt if they expect to be competitive.

why has nobody heard of the skyrocket hd? it's already been announced there's no way it's going to be the s3. you're telling me that is the phone they're going to combat all the new phones and chipsets with?

While I'm new to the convo and don't want to get into the speculation that the S3 may be a flop, I'd like to throw a different rumor into the pile:

According to this: Samsung Galaxy S3 Rumor Roundup | My Blog it is rumored to have a 3D display. Being an owner of an Evo 3D, this piqued my interest. Of course, I also have doubts about the concept pictures (if it is even in the remote possibility of being true) because 3D pictures require 2 cameras. I only see one. Also, both HTC and LG couldn't get the 'primary' camera to higher than 5 MP. So I bet it's a false rumor, but figured I'd contribute.

It will not have a 3d screen.

The skyrocketed HD was unveiled by AT&t at CeS ....that is a carrier name

Samsung could be calling it something completely different [and typically does]

You guys seem to miss the fact that 98% of the market does not buy a phone based on specs....but I can't really convey that point well without saying things that I can't.

I promised you guys updates...i didn't promise you that we would like them

Apple is coming out with a new phone this year. Samsung is hell bent to out do them. I'm sorry, I just find all this info hard to believe. If they announce this phone with not much of a difference from the S2 at their big event, they will be a laughing stock.

I really didn't expect it to have a 3D screen. The next gen of iPod Touch and the iPad 3 are rumored to have a 3D screen, so I was just putting this out there. I didn't have a lot of faith in it due to the talk about the 12 MP camera that seems so strong. But it is a rumor and this is a rumor mongering thread

And I'd agree with the idea that 98% of the market doesn't buy phones based off the specs. And I bet that most of the point that you can't talk about really just revolve around aesthetics. Like how does the phone look/feel? How does the UI look and work? How does the screen look? How is the clarity? That sort of thing. And for some reason, people like extremely thin electronic devices with big screens and then wonder why batteries don't last forever.

just pointing out that a sucessor isn't going to have the same specs with an updated screen.

unless of course, they don't plan on launching an "s3". and don't feel like you need to defend yourself, we're not attacking you

Well, I guess Mr. Ed's source is poised to be wrong this time for sure. Unless he is a Korean Samsung employee at some high level inside loop of new smartphone developments, I wouldn't put much stock in his saying at least for this time.

SGSII HD is already on sale in Korea since November last year and Sammy will just repackage that phone to call it SGS3 to world this year? Sorry, that doesn't make sense.

Hmmm...i dunno...if i had released a slew of pproducts over the past year ..each better than the last, and I didn't receive the response I was looking for.. I might rethink my strategy

But that's just me ....by no means did anyone tell me that a company we know well is looking into a different marketing strategy vs pushing specs at us.

Should be an interesting next 30 days tho that is for sure.

I like rumors and speculation .. It keeps me on my toes in my line of work and helps me think outside of the box

Lol...I love it...a source that has proven to be accurate is "for sure" no longer trusted because he didn't say what you wanted to hear

Well, he didn't say just what I wanted to hear but also millions of others wanted to hear.

A lot of android buyers are not like Apple fans and they actually care what's inside the device. And samsung is well aware how high expectation on this one is.

edit: OK, I will stop here on this. There is no point until official info comes from samsung.

I agree...

I am not trying to argue with you guys at all lol. just trying to open your minds a little.

They aren't after android fans...they have "us"

My point above is that "what if" they are putting their concentration towards the sheep?

i will report back whatever else I find out. We are having lunch this week so I will try and squeeze more out of him.

The note releases this weekend so he will be turning that device in and hopefully picking up whatever is next in line soon!

I am hindered by the fact that I get the info direct so its harder for me to understand that point of view

This is one i don't want to be right. I have a skyrocket with 1.5 processor and lte....i can't see my next phone only adding an HD screen...i want more than that

Got a pic of the next great thing!

Seriously tho, this is my good friend and co-worker's phone ....we have to bring him into the now!

So if we all start bleating, we'll get the phone with the specs we want, right?

Samsung has an opportunity right now to squash Apple (for good), by releasing the Galaxy S3 before the iPhone 5, and also making it blow the 5 out of the water spec wise.

A quad core would be exactly that homerun that they need to steal all of Apple iPhone 5 sales.

Well said. That's another reasons why I don't get Sammy will just repackage SGSII HD from last year to make SGSIII, not to mention other quad core android beasts. See, even iFans will brag about their quad A6 with tremendous GPU power. How in the world, Samsung will go against that with dual S3 snapdragon from last year? If they are really that dumb to do that, all the major IT medias (Engadget, BGR, Cnet, etc) will make bad press about it and SGSIII will be relegated to mid range cheap phone for sheeps.

Exactly! I don't believe any of that stuff. There's no way in hell Samsung is releasing a recycled GS2 and making a big event of it. HTC is making a beast phone....so is LG. Samsung will be left in the dust and be laughed at if what Ed is saying is true. Samsung is not stupid.....I believe they'll release a monster phone.

Give flagship phone it's own announcement/launch event = Nifty trick to make phone seem more awesome than it already is. I don't remember if they did it for the S2 but they'll sure do it for the S3.

Realize that (IMHO), iPhone buyers do not care about specs. Its the name. Outside these forums, how many people know the processor speed of their phones? I'd wager that 99% of current iPhone users think they have a quad core phone or 4G phone since it has the number (4) in it's name.

Yeah and these are the same people that Samsung pokes fun at in their commercials....in case you haven't noticed.

You do realize it is working right?

I don't know which is stronger.. the influx of apple to android converts that were upset by the 4s or the amount of curiosity that has been peaked by those commercials.

90% of them actually don't know about android...and those commercials target in on some of it's unique advantages.

I know I have had more than a handful of my I friends ask more questions about android than they ever have in the past. In the past they simply blew off android as being sub par ...

At least my friends with iPhone4S around me know it has dual core A5 with blazing speed, iOS5 and excellent camera.

BTW, even Motorola seems to be readying their big gun Atrix 3 with Tegra3, 2Gb RAM, HD screen. Now it's only Samsung that has to show their big card to world, repackaged SGSII HD won't cut it.

Yeah those rumored specs for the Atrix 3 look unbelievable. Every company is coming out with the heavy artillery this year. So I believe Samsung will come out with something big.
