The rumors around the phone state it will have a ceramic body, that would explain the back looking like ceramic in the photo. But with Verizon's quad-core lte issue I think i might just get the nexus in the next few weeks. The nexus I know I can root
ceramic back should look just like the glass back of the iphone. and there is no problem with verizon and quad core. there's no lte with tegra 3 and lte (yet). 2 different things
is there an android device you can't root though? lol
Well hopefully if it is quad core, it's not just a doubling up of the Galaxy S2's A9s (or if you prefer to call them 4412s)
I wonder how good the HSPA+ will be? Huawei's 10inch tablet coming soon has theoretical 84mbps, 4x faster than the S2's theoretical 21, you'd hope they'd be close to that?

Apparently dissatisfied with its introduction of half a dozen different Android handsets at MWC, LG is said to be preparing a new flagship phone that will aim to do battle with Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S III. Powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 and filling a 4.7-inch screen with 1280 x 720 pixels, the device codenamed D1L is expected to be LG's first to ship with Ice Cream Sandwich on board. It'll also include LTE, according to DDaily's sources, and should be out in May. An anonymous LG employee has been cited as confirming the company is "developing a phone with a project name D1L," though he or she wouldn't be drawn to confirm any of the details. Either way, it looks like our choice of supersized Android handsets with 720p resolution is only going to expand.
samsung needs to step up soon. we've got this and the one x. there's not a whole lot of brand loyalty like there is with apple. so the longer they wait, the more likely people are to get something else

Companies are coming out with the heavy artillery. Samsung is probably grinning as they expect the GS3 is going to blow all those phones away. I hope thats the case. The thing is, I want this phone announced before June. That way I can compare it to the new EVO.

They better at least announce it soon. I know a lot of people who will just say screw waiting for something that doesn't technically exist yet and go with the best available right now. Samsung needs to realize they have more competitors than just apple.
Article says that the S3 will keep a home button like it's previous flagships.
Also going for a 5 column app layout like the note.
When given to carriers for testing the carriers received a black slate prototype with all the proper internals of the S3 so it's actual exterior design hasn't been seen by any of the carriers. They most likely did this with the I-9300 or Galaxy M given its plain black box design.

interesting. so this could have been the s3 then. just..not the s3 we're getting

Agreed absolutely.
I saw the htc one x today and I have to say it was tempting even thou i have been holding out for the sgs3 for quite a while now.
My droid x wont hold a battery for more than 5 hours now I might have to droid max or nexus sooner than I had hoped. That 300 bucks for Verizon is killing me !!!!!
SGSIII vs HTC One X vs LG D1L vs iPhone 5 vs whatever Motorola's got up their sleeve
Whoa, I have a feeling that by Q3/Q4 2012 we'll all be very happy with our phones.

its a prototype right? who's to say its not using old software too
the manufacturers generally have to submit identical versions that will be sold at least spec wise. Or else the testing/certification wouldn't mean much if they could change it.

to the fcc maybe. but i'm sure they change plenty when they have the carrier testing it
I agree, this stupid 30 dollar upgrade free starting on the 22 really makes me want to get a new phone this week. Cell companies are getting so silly with these fees.
Eh 1080p on a 4.7inch screen would be a waste of battery.
Most people can't tell the difference between 720 and 1080 on a 50in screen. Maybe side by side, but even then..
Yeah I'd have to say that having a full hd screen is not really a deal breaker for me .. maybe a few years from now when battery technology is better but for now I'd prefer to be able to get through a whole day on one charge.
The source on the article is quite lengthy but it does mention the 4.6 inch SAMOLED HD+ for the S3...also says something quite interesting regarding possible upcoming screen size for the next iphone. Seems to allude to the fact that will be 4.3"....not my words though lol
Yeah I read that article. It's safe to assume that the screen will be in the area of 4.6-4.8 and better looking than the S2. I'm guessing Samsung will make an announcement sometime in May.
Ya I greed with the 720P. Any content your going to running on a phone your not going to be able to the tell difference between that and 1080P. 720 its self is going to be enough of a battery drain.
now the question becomes. do us US folk still have to wait until fall to get the phone. because if we do, then samsung wasted so much time delaying the announcement
i'm also hoping that the screen rumor going around right now is untrue. might have to go for the one x if its legit
It means come meet the S3 line of devices. Watch it just be all about the tablets and no phone At least we should know the specs of the phone so we know whether or not its worth waiting for it to release on our carriers.
They wouldn't trump all this up and then not present the cake. Despite the boring flyer, this event must be for their next flagship phone.
And I don't think this is the end of the promotional stuff we'll see, I'm sure other more interesting posters will appear.
I was kind of thinking Samsung might go where they haven't gone yet by making their own console, and calling it the Nebula, but given the current situation and timeframe I don't think they can get it on the shelf in time to fight with the next xbox and PS4.
But maybe they'll make a phone or tablet called the Galaxy Nebula, heh.
On a side note, (again) I think it would be a joke for the S3 not to come with USB 3.0, this is extremely important (along with removable battery and microSD slot)

I am not overly familiar with how Samsung does things, but since Samsung Mobile is putting on the event, I am hoping that eliminates all products non-phone related.
Today Meizu announced that their MX Quad-core phone was coming to Mainland China and Hong Kong in June. We normally don’t cover too many Asia-only phones, but Meizu is boasting that this device is the first smartphone in the world to use Samsung’s brand new quad-core Exynos 4412 processor.
We find this detail rather interesting because multiple rumors have suggested that Samsung would use the same quad-core Exynos 4412 in their Galaxy S III phone. What are the odds that Samsung would let Meizu use this quad-core Exynos, if it were to also be featured in Samsung’s upcoming flagship device?
Another option for Samsung, that is looking more likely by the day, is the inclusion of their latest dual-core Exynos 5250, based on the newer ARM Cortex-A15 CPU core and using the faster Mali-T604 GPU. We already covered this part in depth last month, where we discovered that Samsung has two versions available. There is a higher-clocked 2 GHz model for tablets, and a more power efficient 1.7 GHz model for smartphones.
In a previous rumor report we said the chances of Samsung going with the newer Exynos 5250 in the Galaxy S III were about 50%, but with all the recent news I’d bump that up to about 90%. Samsung started sampling the Exynos 5250 last year, showed off prototype devices at CES in January, and said it would hit volume production in Q2.
We also now know that Samsung’s 32nm High-K Metal Gate (HK/MG) low-power process technology, that the Exynos 5250 is made with, is mature since the refreshed iPad 2 and Apple TV 3 are already using it.
Samsung will finally unveil the next Galaxy phone in London only 17 days from now, so we won’t have to wait much longer. As things stand today, it appears Samsung will have the first smartphone in the world to use ARM’s Cortex-A15 CPU core, which is pretty damn cool if you are a processor nerd like me.
Very simply, this is a big deal because we only see a new mobile CPU architecture released every 2-3 years. ARM has described the next-generation A15 by saying, “It’s like taking a desktop and putting it in your pocket.”
The average consumer doesn’t care what processor is inside their phone, so it will be interesting to see what kinds of new experiences this raw horsepower can deliver.
