Samsung Galaxy S III will not launch at MWC next month thanks xtop!
According to theverge.com, "We're hearing from people familiar with the matter that Samsung — which had originally planned to announce its 2012 flagship Galaxy S III phone at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona late next month— has now decided to delay the news but we're told that it'll still be out there "before summer." The speculation is that Samsung was uncomfortable with another long lag between the global launch and US availability."

Samsung Galaxy S III rumored to go on sale in April: HD screen, quad-core processor, 12-megapixel camera, running ICS

According to phonearena.com,"Notorious for his murky inside sources and hit-or-miss track record, Russian tech blogger Eldar Murtazin just dropped a huge news bomb by saying the yet unannounced Samsung Galaxy S III will land on shelves in April, after an announcement in late February at MWC in Barcelona. Murtazin also strongly hints he got a hold of the new Galaxy S III. “HD resolution, 12 mpx camera, sw tweaks, android 4 - i like my new phone. Eager to see official announcement in Barcelona,” What’s not so obvious is the quad-core processor - the blogger further hints that the Samsung Galaxy S III is coming with a 1.5GHz-1.6GHz quad-core chip and some battery life tweak."

Samsung Galaxy S III picture leaked?

According to the pocketnow.com "EXIF data tells us that it was taken with a phone whose model number is GT-I9500, the highest, numerically, that the company has ever used. The camera back from full resolution to five megapixels; we can assume, however, that the aperture of 2.65 and four-millimeter focal length are probably accurate."

i was reading today that they are looking to intro an 8gig 'entry level' version to compete with the 8gig iphone 4/4s. apparently some felt the normal gs2 was too expensive and opted for the iphones. according to what i read the 8gig will also be arriving with an sd slot. but again its allllll speculation and anyone can make up anything!

honestly, I don't think it is possible since galaxy S ii is £200 cheaper than iPhone 4S right now, and Samsung have make excellent product in the past and I don't think they lower the price in order to compete iPhone 4/4S, they focus on the quality not the price. That's why the iPhone were expensive but still have a lot of ifanboy to buy it. Ifanboy won't buy Samsung because of cheapness but they will buy it if the quality is high. That is how the world should be.

Actually the iPhone 4S is pretty comparable to price to the GSII here in the States.

Is that contract price or for the handset? They've started giving iPhones away free on contract in the UK, but their handsets are still one of the most (if not, the) expensive. I wonder how long consumers will continue to pay over the odds for a device that is technically inferior to so many phones on the market now.

I am comparing off contract prices. I paid $575 for my International GS II to be shipped here. The iPhone 4S prices here range from 499-599 depending on which one you purchase off contract.

There is no doubt in my mind that the phone will be fully revealed at MWC in late February. I just hope Samsung plans to do a simultaneous world release or at least bring it to the states prior to the phone being on the market for 8 months internationally. I haven't even had my GS II for 6 months and I'm already planning to make a day one purchase, if it is LTE enabled that is.

i'm with you there. dual a15's are faster than quad a9's, but i don't think they'll be ready in time :/ would love to be wrong though. curious to see if they go with a high clocked dual a9 or lower clocked quad a9. that exynos 5250 would be ideal in my book, but i think that's more for tablets

it's nice to see they're going to commit to better battery life. Samsung commits to improve smartphone battery life in 2012 - Engadget

it'd be great to see them do something like moto did with the razr and jam a huge battery in. but if not, at least the 2nd gen lte chips are easier on the batteries.

I'm with you on that. The GS3 will more likely be my next device. The GS2 was a smash hit. The U.S. carriers need to understand that and work with Samsung to get the GS3 earlier this year....not 5-6 months later.

Do we know yet if this phone will be released on Verizon?

If so I'll wait for it, if not I'm grabbing the Nexus.

Yes, unfortunately any news article you read now is PURE speculation. Hopefully the official announcement will be at the Mobile World Congress the last week of February. That's when the SG2 was announced last year.

I'm also waiting on any Verizon news with the SG3 so let's keep our fingers crossed.

Samsung is not cheap by any means.....the reason they are inexpensive, compared to say apple, is because they make all their own products, so they can say how much they can make to get it at this price.......I find it funny that everyone rants and raves about how the build quality on the iPhone and iPad is sooo great, yet samsung beats them everytime in a drop test.....

Well I know they opted out of the GS II for the Galaxy Nexus....they might have their own version of it, but I, personally, doubt it.

Well Samsung stopped making the 'original' Galaxy SIIs recently, now instead of GT-i9100 there's the GT-i9100G model, which comes with an outsourced chipset. I figure this means Samsung have shifted their internal chipmaking onto something new, for me it points to CPUs/GPUs for the S3.

Not sure when they started pushing out the G model though, could've been two weeks ago or two months?

My SII is great, I kept it on 2.3.3 and maintain the original Market app, the only problem I've had is the call quality thing which has started up recently, just need to pop open the shell and 'put that stuff in' to fix it when I can be bothered. In order for me to get an S3 it'll have to be quite special, I'd be looking for:
*Camera: More megapixels, Better sensor, 1080p @ 60fps.
*At least 1.8 Ghz (I'm being generous) and quad core.
*720p screen
*Must have better HSPA+, or even better, 4G LTE.
*USB 3.0
I don't think I'm asking for too much at all.

The USB speed phone wars should be interesting for 2012, I've always been adamant that the iP5 will come with thunderbolt/lightpeak, which is twice the transfer speed of USB 3.0.
Some flagship phones will probably be left behind, getting released with 2.0, and though I think the S3 should and will come with 3.0 to compete with the iP5, but I'm starting to wonder if Apple will actually put thunderbolt on it, as we all know how much they love their special flat/wide port. I'm guessing it will have both, as the iP5 can use it as an exclusive drawcard while also not rendering current apple products obselete.

I think we might be looking at an August showdown with S3 and iP5?

yeah, Verizon was almost a year late to the SG2 party, which they just released as the Nexus.

So, seems like they may block a SG3, or delay it as the not compete with the Nexus. Unfortunately, TMobile may do the same since they also just released the SG2.

So, for carriers delaying phone models, F$ck off! ruining things for us folks in the US>

All I'm saying is that Sprint better get this phone by mid year. I'm upgrading this year and this is the phone I want. These U.S carriers need to get with the program and stop delaying releases.

Well, I disagree on it but you may be right. Galaxy S II have to launch in late September because they have to redesign the handset to avoid lawsuit to Apple. Do you notice that they redesign the home button to capacitive touch for the US version? Well, this year you'd surprise that they launch US in much much earlier compare last year. Verzion Galaxy Nexus is a sucess. Samsung know they have to launch earlier to attract customers. Now, based on my opinion, Galaxy S III will remove all the home buttons just like GN. Therefore, you will know why 2012 won't be 2012 : }

I hope they keep the buttons the way they are, sure make them a little smaller but I would prefer that to on screen buttons.

An on screen home button would be kind of pointless unless it was always visible which would suck.

The concept photo in the OP make me want the SG3 even more.

And my vote is no buttons, pure ICS (like in the concept image). I've had the ASUS TF101 with Honeycomb for a while and I love the way the on screen "buttons" work.

I can't wait for this power house beauty. No one will be able to touch quad core Exynos for a while this year. Hopefully it makes into US quicker than SGSII did last year. I think it was hindered by lack of LTE, especially on verizon. But this one is supposedly coming with LTE on board from get go, so it will go easier for verizon.

dual a15's are due sometime between summer and the end of the year, and will handily beat quad a9's. don't expect it to remain the fastest for long. but yes, we better not have to wait until fall again

that's true. A15 based Exynos 5250 will pack more punch than A9 quad Exynos. But it will probably be late Q3 or Q4 this year for any device powered by that to come. I guess Samsung will reserve improved version of A15 Exynos for SGS4 early next year.

Also it seems that sammy intends to sell Exynos line of AP to other phone vendors as well. Some Chinese company already made phone with Exynos.

Rumor: Samsung Galaxy S III will not launch at MWC next month | The Verge

Quote:
We're hearing from people familiar with the matter that Samsung — which had originally planned to announce its 2012 flagship Galaxy S III phone at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona late next month — has now decided to delay the news. It's unclear when or where the new announcement will be, but we're told that it'll still be out there "before summer." Though MWC seems like a logical choice for the GSIII's unveiling (the GSII was announced there last year), the speculation is that Samsung was uncomfortable with another long lag between the global launch and US availability. The US is a key market for Samsung's mobile business, of course — particularly when the company is successful in getting most or all national carriers to pick it up.

While we don't know what exactly Samsung will be announcing at MWC in the GSIII's place, we understand they'll have "interesting stuff" — perhaps a Galaxy Tab refresh, especially since the 10.1 is getting long in the tooth and we're due for a round of quad-core updates in 2012. A new Windows Phone portfolio is another possibility; there have been rumors that Microsoft will make an announcement at the show, and Samsung is about as strong a Windows Phone partner as Microsoft has outside of Nokia. We'll be following this story closely as it develops.

Update: German blog BestBoyZ, which has been accurate in the past, is reporting the same thing.

This is just rumor until samsung confirms it officially. Even so, it might mean only delaying the global announcement not actual phone launch for each region.

I think its a good thing that Samsung is delaying the announcement....if that rumor is true. You recall that there was a long gap between the releases of the international and U.S. versions of the GS2. Maybe they'll have a special event where they will have a announcement for a world wide launch or at least a 1-2 month gap. Plus they might be improving the chip. If this is true....it will be well worth the wait.

Yeah, I'm fine to wait a bit more if they are trying to put A15 Exynos into it as rumored. A9 to A15 is big step forward in ARM processor, better than quad A9 processors.

Hopefully the screen wont to larger than Galaxy Nexus 4.65 incher otherwise it will be too large. Of course is so cases it would be great to have this big screen but I prefer active lifestyle and snowboarding with 5inch beast in the pocket could be a bit difficult and dangerous

I have been able to get very little out of my Sammy friend...

It will be HD
It will be LTE
It will be quad core
It will release before Christmas

Just like the other devices, I will update you guys as I find out more.

I suspect the launch will mostly be affected by what Apple does...I mean there is an OBVIOUS reason of why they have been releasing so many devices back to back prior all prior to the rumored Iphone 5 that should come later this year.

flood the market much?

We pretty much assumed those were going to be specs. The Christmas thing is what's getting me thrown off. I know this is coming out way before Christmas.... but does that mean sometime in fall/winter? I sure hope not. I was hoping for a earlier release date this year.....like at least summertime.

I think they are watching Apple's move with iPhone5 and trying to release SGSIII as close to it as possible. It makes sense. Why show their big gun way before Apple does? Also they probably want to reduce the gap between global and US launches. I guess it will be late Spring or early Summer announcement.

Oh yes, the damn fruit phone. If that's the case then there's going to battle in the summertime....if the rumors of the next iphone coming in June are true. My upgrade is on April. But I'm waiting for Galaxy S III no matter what.

I know. i am right there with ya on that one.

All he will give me is "by the end of the year"

Like i said he has been right on the release of the skyrocketing the gs2 the note and the 8. Tab

So far i have had the opportunity to test all of those devices at least a month prior to release

Default Samsung: Galaxy S III will not launch at MWC

Samsung: Galaxy S III will not launch at MWC | The Verge

Quote:
Samsung has confirmed it will not launch its Galaxy S III handset at Mobile World Congress 2012 later this month. We had heard that the company originally planned to introduce its S II successor in Barcelona this month, but that the firm had decided to delay the news. Samsung released a statement today confirming our report. "The successor to the Galaxy S II smartphone will be unveiled at a separate Samsung-hosted event in the first half of the year, closer to commercial availability of the product," said a spokesperson.

Although the S II successor won't be unveiled at MWC, we're hearing it will be available "before the summer" which matches Samsung's "first half of the year" event date. Speculation on the announcement delay centers around Samsung's US market plans. Samsung was said to be uncomfortable with another long lag between the global launch and US availability.

Samsung says it will still be introducing and demonstrating "exciting new mobile products" at Mobile World Congress 2012 this month, which could include a Galaxy Tab refresh. We are expecting to hear details about its LTE Windows Phone that was rumored for a CES unveil, and more of its smartphone plans for 2012.

"Samsung is looking forward to introducing and demonstrating exciting new mobile products at Mobile World Congress 2012.

The successor to the Galaxy S II smartphone will be unveiled at a separate Samsung-hosted event in the first half of the year, closer to commercial availability of the product.

Samsung stays committed to providing the best possible mobile experiences for customers around the world.”

Yes, I expected Samsung to have their own special event for such an anticipated phone. Hopefully this will be a worldwide release.

Some folks are probably disappointed that Sammy decided to delay SGSIII announcement. But I think this is good move for them. No one likes months of waiting, speculation on exact spec, release date, etc. I'd rather like to see them announce it closer to actual release dates.

Hope you guys in the U.S get it for Christmas, I think it will really hurt Samsung if it doesn't happen, I'm sure they know Apple will be ready to start Patent Wars episode XIV to block Christmas sales on the SIII in the U.S, and I hope Samsung has some countermeasure patents to fight the iPhone 5 with, We may possibly see a humungous patent poopstorm later this year, making what we've seen so far look mild.
