Galaxy S3 inadvertently shown at CES?
This is the alleged Galaxy S3:
Some say that this is a mockup created by a fan and not an actual pic of the product, however, look what was shown in one of Samsung's videos shown at CES:
There's a slight difference in that the device shown in the video has a home button, but I'm sure most phones go through multiple revisions before one is finally settled on, and the bezel on the phone in the video is way too thin to be an S2.
All of the above links were posted in this thread on XDA so credits to all involved.
nope that isnt the S3.- the vid shows the galaxy note.
The S3 in the first pic has no home button and we know that ICS will be built for button-less interface. The pic is a mockup of what people know and guess.
The phone in the video has a superimposed image so screen to body ratio could be off. The home button is visible and the layout of the camera and earphone looks identical to the current Galaxy Note.
Its just a mockup in the video anyway with a superimposed screen. Apart from the missing logo the ear phone, camera and home button are the same as the note.. form factor too.

The notes home button isn't as square as the one in the video and the screen doesn't sit as close to the sides. No logo too as you pointed out.
I don't know that much about photography, why would they superimpose a screen when they could just run that software on the note anyway?

Companies do do mock ups and superimpose a image for demo video all the time. That is a logo free Galaxy Note with a imposed image of the screen which is why it sits odd on the layout. The distance between the time button and sides is also the same as the Note. If you superimpose a bigger screen on the S2 it also covers the logo.
Samsung are not that daft .

It's not a note. Camera is on the opposite side, home button is a different shape (the note's is more rounded), bezels are noticeably smaller, no Samsung logo, screen is closer to the sides.
I'm thinking it could've been something to get the media talking more than an actual mistake, like to hype up the S3 before it's revealed.. quite a few news sites have posted this now :P

And i will say if again its a generic mock up. The phone is shown straight after your observation and looks to generic and frankly too old looking ti be a next gen S3. The camera is also shown to be on the right .. just like the Note shown in your picture. In the video capture the phone with the superimposed screen just looks like the S2 with a big screen.
As for the screen its superimposed on the vid . the body is as rounded as the Note.
The s3 will run ICS which is built for button free interface. The iphone5 rumours also hint at no buttons and i will bet that is the way phones will go .
It is not the s3

The camera on the unknown/mockup device is clearly on the left, not the right. How can you not see that?!
You know as much as I do, I.e. neither of us can say with any degree of certainty whether it's a new device or a mockup, so don't be so sure of yourself
ice cream sandwiches supports button free interfaces but doesn't enforce that as a rule. Look, new ice cream sandwich phones are coming out with buttons
I've also got a Desire Z here running an AOSP v4.0.3 build if further proof is needed. The 'buttonless interface' is merely an option.

It's entirely up to the manufacturer. Google doesn't really throw its' weight around and tell companies how to design their phones.
OK i have done some measurements in CS5 ...
1. The screen is superimposed on that image/video for demonstration purposes. The video corners are rounded for a kick-off- Companies do it all the time- for example with TV's adverts and demonstrations.
2. The Volume button, home button, Camera and earphone are in the EXACT same place and size as the S2.
3. The distance between the top of the phone to the screen and the bottom of the phone to the screen is not equal = super imposed image and if not shoddy design.
4. The rounded corners are exactly the same size and distance as the S2.

5. Samsung are not that stupid.
You can't measure things on an image that's not to scale.
It probably is just an s2 with a superimposed screen but who knows? Not us!
