I understand Samsung's wanting to release it well ahead of the iPhone-whatever and the Olympics, but a lot of Verizon users are currently locked in with the Nexus.
As a casual, though enthusiastic user, I disagree. I don't think I know anyone who has the Nexus. I think it's a bit more phone, literally and figuratively, for most users. I haven't researched it, but I don't know that there are really that many out there being used by the average person - meaning someone who wouldn't go out and buy the next great thing.
In other words, I don't think there's be too many people who are concerned about being locked in their contract.
Also, keep in mind we, the forum users, are in the great minority as far as keeping up to date on this stuff. I hardly know anyone who knows much, they just go out and get their new phone after their contract is up
If the S III wasn't released now, when would it be released? It's the "official phone of the Olympics" (or so I've heard) so it has to be out during that time. Also, I guess they could wait until November so the Nexus user's have a year into their contract but at that point, the new Nexus should be in the mix and the iPhone5.
I would argue even that waiting till November wouldn't get many users on board from the GNex as it would still only be a year into the contract. And the people that buy off contract will buy regardless of when it's released.

Good thought! I wonder if manufacturers are going to have an "off" year this winter, putting out decent phones but nothing SPECTACULAR.
It's not a far stretch to imagine that the quantum jump in flagship technology will happen every other year now, coinciding with the 2-year mark on all the DInc/Droid users who rolled into Nexus. Or am I just putting too much into it?
Dinc was released April 29th, 2010.
DX was released July 15th, 2010
Gnex launch last Dec lined up perfectly for must of us launch day Dinc owners.
Must have been remembering it wrong then. I almost pulled the trigger on the Dinc, but the DX info surfaced while waiting for it to be released, or waiting for my NE2, or something and I went with it instead.

The Incredible had been out for some time, but was out-of-stock when the Droid X was released. There was a shortage of its amoled screens I believe.

Just pre-ordered my Blue 32g S3. It will most likely replace my Nexus. Nexus is going to the wife. She gets all my hand-me-downs. She's using my DX right now. I love my Nexus, but didn't care for it when it was stock. Rooted and Romed made it a great device. Now I'm looking forward to the more powerful phone. I use my phones for work as an inspection and data gathering tool along with my primary form of communication. G-Nex is working great, but time for an upgrade. Hopefully.

I am not sure I fully understand this. The Olympics are in London. The phone is already out in London. Why are we talking about a November release when Samsung already told us the major U.S. Carriers would start selling it by June. Verizon's per-order in June probably counts even thought they have not charged anybody yet and has a shipping date of " by july 9th" I think all of us would have a serious issue per-ordering a phone in June and not having it ship until November. I think at that point we would all believe we are " entitled" for something.
This phone can't come out soon enough! I dropped my Droid X, and while no dents or scratches occured because of the otterbox, a black line developed the next day. Now, four days later, there are blobs of "ink" all over (underneath) my screen. Blah, hurry up S3!!!
Alexander, I brought up a November release as a response to the GNex users. It was brought up questioning the early release when so many people have contracts on the GNex and the only way I saw to somewhat fix that was a November release. However, it was for illustration purposes only. I would not be pre-ordering a phone now with a November release, nor would I wait that long for this phone, I would find something else to get.
Order Status
Here is the status of your Pre-order:
We received your order and it is in process. Expected Ship Date: 01/08/5969
Another Order Status? Review your order history in My Verizon
It had been in the year 12,000, so I moved up almost 7,000 years. I wonder if the CEO knows how screwed up this is? What a disgrace for a major company.
I did not receive such an email. I got one email after pre-ordering. It was the confirmation email with no link to "confirm". I would call verizion if I were you.
DO NOT REPLY - I believe it is spam, or some sort of phishing expedition . I believe I received the e-mail too, but it went right into my junk email folder. I remember thinking that it was strange - but deleted it. Verizon knows how to contact you if they need to ...
1. Gnex posters were (on average) some of the more geek/fanboy compulsive, so more posts from same people. I am a geek too.
2. Diminished returns, since Gnex was early part of next gen phone curve.
Another Gnex user just stopping in to see what's up with this device. And I would concur with the above statement. I am geeky, a fanboy and OCD which is close enough to match the aforementioned criteria.

I'm hoping Verizon will actually announce a solid release date this week like everyone else.I haven't been with them long, but I'm starting to see a pattern here lol
GNex owner here too. And I had the Dinc before that (with a short stint with the Thunderbolt in between.) I just think it was a perfect storm of Dinc renewals, ICS, Google announcement two months prior to finally releasing, and the massive number of leaks hyping the phone. Oh, and the following users: Han Solo, Baby Blues, and Steven58.

Ah, Steven58... haven't heard that name in over two years. I miss that old Incredible pre-release speculation thread... It was fun to sign on every day and see some tiny clue one of us stumbled upon, giving us one more hint at what would be in my pocket for two years. Samsung, you made this WAY too easy for us
Does it really matter when Verizon actually ship the phones? July 9 is not that far away you know.
YOU TAKE THAT BACK!!! Hell yes it matters! I need my new phone to play with and get how I want and see everything new. I'm still on my OG Dinc. And mostly I want to make sure it makes it here on time. If it is delayed much after the 9th, I will be on vacation till August and don't wanna deal with that headache (the phone and where it's at, not the vacation).
I know Verizon reps aren't the most reputable when it comes to getting facts straight, but can I trust that I'll be able to keep my unlimited plan when I get my preorder? Bit nervous they'll pull a fast one on us by saying our contract begins on activation and we'll have to agree to terms on that date.

Never know with big red...
Yes, multiple people have verified through CS (like you) and also some tech blogs have gotten statements from VZW saying if you preorder the SGS3 you get to keep your unlimited data. I was hoping to get the HTC Incredible 4G but when the price of the SGS3 was revealed and it actually had a pre-order date i jumped ship.
Now if the HTC Inc 4g is in the store on June 21st (as rumored) and i can play with it AND it feels amazing, i may cancel my preorder. My priority #1 is to keep unlimited data on Verizon. Priority #2 is getting a sweet 4g phone
Bad move vzw the gs3 shall be my last phone with you
I almost didn't renew but since my wife renewed hers about 2 months ago I figured I would go ahead and get mine now....But i am with you I will more than likely be going to a local company here, could be saving $50/month just between the 2 phones.
According to their math, I'd pay about $21 more for the same plan with only 4gb of total data instead of the unlimited data I have plus the 300mb my wife has. Not a good deal.

Off to pre-order on VZW.com. Not taking any chances with BB. Their "release" date is cutting it too close for comfort.
Does anyone know how the new data share plans work with my corporate discount on my line and data (22% off each)?? Or will they do away with it for the new plans?

Does the $90/mo for 8GB access fee include the first phone? Or do I have to pay $90 for just the service, and then $40/mo for each phone on it?
Because right now I'm paying $212/mo for 1400 minutes, unlimited texting and unlimited data on all four smartphones.
If I have to pay $90/mo for just access, then $160 for 4 phones, plus taxes and "FEES", I'm pushing $300/mo
At this point, I'm going to keep the kids on our plan until they want a new phone. Then they can splinter off onto their own plans, leaving me & the Darling Bride on our grandfathered unlimited. It will then be cheaper for us to pay full retail for new phones and keep what we have, methinks.

Yep, what you said, $90 is just for 8GB of data. Then you have to add phone access charges.
These share plans dont really have anything to do with the end of unlimited right?
I have not pre-ordered yet...really want to be able to read some reviews of both the S3 and the incredible 4g before i buy one. But, i also obviously want to keep my unlimited.
One other question... Is it fairly confirmed that for 30 bucks i will still get 2gigs of data. Im right on the edge of 2 gigs a month.

The Verizon press release stated that this rollout coincides with the end of grandfathered unlimited data, so if you don't use your upgrade by June 27th, you will not be able to keep unlimited.
And yes, you will still get 2GB if you decide not to get an upgrade prior to the 28th.
That's $30 for 2gig for everyone on your family plan. If you are right on the edge of 2GB a month that doesn't leave much for whoever else is on your plan. And as far as I know, this is only for the family plan people, not individual plans.
I would say this is likely, otherwise they would have to honor unlimited plan upgrades after the drop dead date if you pre-order.
I really had a feeling they were going to launch the S3 in the store when the new plans came out. They get half ( guessing) of the android market off of unlimited data and any new accounts get the new plans. The Razr HD group and apple group will round up the rest of the majority of Verizon accounts. I am hoping to get the phone the 28th so I have it for my July vacation.

Yeah, im on individual. What does that mean for us
To anyone who preordered a galaxy s3 for verizon!!!
I just got off the phone with Verizon, seeing if I could still order a Galaxy S3 and be able to keep my unlimited data plan. I was informed that any subsidized phone activated on the account after their share data plans go into effect (June 28th) will lose unlimited data. I asked what about all the people who preordered the SGS3 to safeguard their unlimited data (phones expected to ship July 1st), & was told they will lose it, since the phone can't be activated until 3 days after the share data plans go into effect.
That is how Verizon is getting a bunch of people off of unlimited data plans, and a particularly back door & s****y way to do it. So for anyone that has unlimited data & has preordered the Galaxy S3, you better call Verizon & find out for yourself if you need to cancel your order.

If true this is total BS!!! Looks like I will be paying full retail for life!!!
I just got off the phone with Verizon and was told I could not preorder the S3 and still keep my unlimited data because the phone would need to be activated before the June 28 date. This seems contrary to almost everything I've read so far. I don't want to be stuck with an already outdated phone...
