Default Gestures and S Voice DEMO

Here are two videos I made with the SIII, first the unboxing, then the demo for the gestures.
Note that I left out the direct call and pick up to be notified functions as I didn't have a microSIM card.
I've fiddled with the S Voice in multiple languages (I'm not a native speaker of either of them) and it surprised me how well I managed to get along with the app. It's responsive, useful and can easily understand you (I'm kind of shouting at it because I wanted to get it right, but it works very nicely). Can't wait for the Romanian version!
Feel free to ask whatever question about the phone and I'd love to answer or test things for you. Enjoy watching!

I like the double tap to scroll to top gesture, long thought Android needed that feature.

Nice vid

I left out two other gestures: the direct call (lift the phone to the ear when writing a text and it will automatically call the recipient) and pick up to be notified, which makes the phone vibrate when picked up if there are notifications, because I didn't have a microSIM to test them out.

My favourite gestures are the camera unlock and the double tap, but unfortunately it only works in lists (in the browser I couldn't do it, but maybe the gesture is accessible and will be implemented by devs in all sorts of apps).

Question about SVoice, how hands free is it? What I'm thinking is I'm driving in my car, using the GPS, listening to music, can I now use SVoice to control device with out touching the phone? Can I initiate a phone call with just voice command?

My understanding is that SVoice can be used to wake the phone & unlock it. Does SVoice work in this manner?

Thanks.

PS. in lieu of answering the above, can you just loan me the phone for a week?

Thanks again!!!!!

I know your asking him the question, but yes you can use the S voice hands free. You just say hi galaxy or you can customize an activation to any app that has commands to activate that feature. Hi galaxy or your personal custom voice activation will activate the s voice feature and then you follow up with a command. Hands free. If you want then you can press the mic button. But in your case, yes, you can use it hands free.

You can either set a command that wakes up voice command simply by speaking ("hi Galaxy" is the default) or if you have a Bluetooth headset, just hit the voice command button on your headset and it'll start s-voice.

You can initiate calls, send text messages and emails, set reminders, events and timers, play music and change tracks (unfortunately only supports the stock music player and not spotify etc), perform web searches/ask questions, use it to navigate to places and more..

Sorry for the delay, but the mates above got it right, except for one thing: you need to wake the phone before it listens for the trigger voice command. It doesn't work with the screen locked, ylu need to press either the home or the power button first but not necessarily unlock. It's like this so you don't accidentally start apps in the pocket

This seems reasonable, otherwise it would mean the microphone would need to be constantly listening, sapping the battery.

I liked your video. When the map came up was the phone locating a language school where you could learn Korean?

All posters that answered my questions, THANKS!!!!!

I'm very glad to hear that voice command can be activated via BT ear piece as well. That was taken out of my wife's S2 Skyrocket.

This does seem to be the phone that really fits how I would use it. Great videos! showing the device features. I'm just kind of bummed go see the AT&T US versions of phones changed from the International phone specs. The AT&T version is supposed to be a dual core, not the Exynos quad & maybe 2 GB system RAM. The dual core & 2GB ram plus expandability via micro SD card would make this a great phone. Not to mention the replaceable battery. I'm looking forward to when this phone becomes available.

@davoid: The map was of the area where I live so it wasn't that intuitive :P

@Sailindawg: The reason the US version is different for is that 4G has a compatibility problem with the quadcore processors, but I still don't get why it gets the 2 GB of RAM bump.

As this phone has an exFAT driver, do you know if it will support larger than 64GB MicroSDXC cards when they come out?

Throwing us a bone for lack of quad core!? Rumor has it that the Japanese version is 2GB as well. One can only hope. Maybe the 4G LTE radio & CPU combo work better with 2GB??

EDIT: Read here. LG claims that their new phone has 2 GB ram to better multitask and handle 4LTE. Given the US version of the One X problems with multitasking, maybe there's something to it. At any rate, I'll gladly take a dual core & 2 GB sys ram!!

From what I know, Samsung were the first to introduce 64GB micoSDs so it was only logical to have them supported by their phone. Currently there is nothing about higher capacity microSDs so we could only hope that the transfer protocols and file system stay the same for the sake of compatibility.

It was hilarious when you spoke all those languages and then you pretended like you were gonna do Korean too! Very impressed. All your videos were great, thank you!
