I am thinking it would be worthwhile buying some adapters to make use of some of the cool and unique features of this awesome phone, and wanted to get people's advice and opinions.
USB Host/ OTG
I've found a couple of promising adapter cables that should enable the phone to work as a USB Host, meaning we can plug USB flash drives or keyboards or SLR cameras into our phones.
This is cheap at £3.69 with free delivery, and has good reviews on amazon:
Micro USB Host Mode On The Go OTG Cable for Xoom: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics
this is more expensive at £12.94 inc. delivery, but has good reviews and a nice video showing how cool it is, and it looks a bit better aesthetically:
Micro USB to USB Converter for Samsung Galaxy S3 /S2 / Note Reviews & Comments
Would the cheapest one be worth it, or better going for the mobilefun version?
Next I thought about utilizing the phone's ability to output to HDMI devices like HD TVs, using the MHL interface.
I haven't looked far, but found this adapter and it looks reasonable at £9.90 plus free delivery:
FoneM8 - MHL TO HDMI HD TV CABLE ADAPTOR FOR SAMSUNG: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics
It doesn't specify S3 compatability, but mentions S2.
I know there is an official Samsung adapter for the S2 at £15.19 with free delivery - would this necessarily be better, or even compatible?
Play.com - Buy online at Play.com and read reviews. Free delivery to UK and Europe!
It has good user reviews and is reported working with the Note, although not officially supported, so could (should?) work with the S3. I am inclined to go for the Samsung, as one of the reviewers says it usefully can send only the video to the TV, while keeping the controls on the phone.
Are there better options out there?
What do people think?
I look forward to gathering as much information as possible.
