I dropped the mf.
I open my laptop and observe scone crumbs on the keyboard, so I brush them off with one monster swipe, except my S3 is next to the laptop. Even though the thin S3 is at a lower level than even my thin ultrabook, somehow I pulled the S3 along with my hand past the edge of a three foot high table. Onto a brick floor, for **** sake. I'd like to report that it makes a rather cheap plasticky sound on impact that makes me want to kill myself. I have a screen protector, but it landed flat on the back cover, a full-body dorsal strike with surprisingly little bounce, I might add.
I've never dropped a phone before, let alone a one-week-old. I turn it on--no problems. I then proceed to the dreaded microinspection of the phone's surfaces, and I'm happy to report not even a scratch. How is that even possible? Samsung does say that the plastic back, even though it's not the ceramic that some people pined for, has some kind of superduper coating. Of course that sounds like BS PR, but apparently they weren't exaggerating. Saved!

I dropped mine as well, but it was only like 4ft and it landed on wood, there wasn't any damage at all. I have noticed some very feint scratches on the back though (wasn't from the dropping). If I'd had the white I doubt I'd see them.
I'm thinking about getting a case for my S3 (when it arrives), but have had my Atrix since it shipped and have kept it naked. I tried some thin cases, but I hate ruining a think phone with a case, even the slim TPU or similar cases.
On one trip, twice I dozed off at a desk in a hotel room and dropped the phone about 4' to a marble floor. In neither cases was there any damage. I think I've dropped it one other time when it slipped out of my hand and I bounced it in the air, higher and higher trying to catch it. That time, the back cover popped off, but otherwise ok.
Anyway, I'm going to try a slim case or two and see if I can bring myself to ruin the feel of the phone for the added protection.
