Hi jo256,
I have the problem for 41 days now...
When I first encountered the problem, I was hopeful that Samsung would do something about it...emailed, called, made 2 visits to Samsung Singapore Service Center and wrote many "Curse Samsung Mobile" posts on Samsung Mobile Singapore. I give up, Samsung Mobile Software teams are not good enough to solve this...the only solution is to root.
I give up, I will reset and sell my S3...not going to support a company that can't fix their own problem. Their latest reply to me on FB was to blame it on Chrome. It's definitely a Samsung problem! Not only in software but in mentality...in denial and blaming Google, although Samsung messed with the Android Stock OS...(Copy and paste on Samsung Android OS looks different Android stock OS. Samsung's Android OS can view the clipboard, and saves recent "copy clips" which I suspect is a feature that caused the clipboard corruption.)
Answer from Samsung Singapore yesterday after 2 weeks wait...

Hi! they tweeted me back asking for my model number & provider, so we'll see. I'm glad that this site clued me into the fallacy of the factory reset. I'm also going to try & find that cut & paste app someone mentioned upthread. I love technology, but I'm not very adept- I just kind of fumble around. This is my second android phone (had OG Droid prev), and I really have been very happy until now. I surely will share anything helpful I learn.
Had this response from Samsung UK on Facebook earlier, at least they're acknowledging the problem and doing something:

Hi
My S3 crashes every time I try to copy & paste something. A quick google has shown this to be a massive widespread problem, when are you going to issue a fix for this?
Many thanks

Hi, we are working on it as I type - not sure when this will roll out but it will likely come in the form of a stability update to Jelly Bean. Thanks for your patience with this and stay tuned for updates. ^George

Mine worked perfectly when I first got it (July), then all of a sudden it stopped working about a month ago. It was VERY frustrating. Then I recently upgraded to Jelly Bean (T-Mobile US) and it fixed it. Hopefully it'll stay this way....
PLEASE help me.......
Firstly,Im so annoying as my S3 can copy text but cannot paste...Once I copy the text den i press long only appear clipboard.
Last time can paste very well but now only appear clipboard..
What can I do?
Secondly,my version now is 4.1.1
Is it this ok? What is the version now?How to do?Any disadvantages?
I started to have similar problems the last couple of days and chanced upon this which fixed it for me. If you're not using the stock Samsung keyboard switch to this and long press the settings button (bottom row, second from left) now press the clipboard symbol (bottom row second from right) and press clear and delete all. Everything works fine since.

This sounds like it should work .
Thanks. But I have no clear all I have to long press on each then delete
Do you have JB I don't yet, still on ICS. That may be the reason there is no clear all.

I'm confused by this and trying to follow. First, what app are you in when you do this, or are you at homescreen? By settings button (bottom row, second from left), do you mean the button on the keyboard which when in Chrome, for example, is a microphone? I see if I long press it, the clipboard is an option there. After pressing that (not sure what you mean by "bottom row second from right" since it's right there under the same key) nothing happens. I don't see where I have things to clear or anything.

Open the stock Samsung keyboard anywhere where you can write text. Yeah the button on the bottom row of the keyboard, which I suppose may not actually be a settings button as you may already have changed it by long pressing. When you long press the settings/other symbol you should be presented with 8 icons in 2 rows, the clipboard is in the bottom row of these.
As stated by dfran1 if you are on ics there is no clear all button like on jb so you need to long press each entry and delete them one by one.
Thanks for responding and so quickly. I only have one row of 4 icons in that menu. After selecting the clipboard and pressing it nothing at all happens. Incidentally, I downloaded a clear clipboard app and when I use it it says my clipboard is empty.
I think with all the various different threads being merged here by all the forum moderators, we seem to be forgetting that there's two copy & paste bugs. One where you go the C&P and the phone crashes and the other where you copy something and it fails to paste. I for one am getting really confused by how fragmented this thread has gotten.
Galaxy Tab user here. Out of curIosity, I decided to switch back to the Samsung stock keyboard from SwiftKey. It is no longer force closing when I attempt to copy but I am still unable to paste. Thought that was kind of interesting.

Did you try to remove all cached copy/past as posted above .
I'm wondering if this will fix it?
I am having the same issue. Looks like the issue where we can copy but not paste.
When we copy, usually a pop-up gets displayed saying that text has been copied to clipboard. That doesn't come anymore. Somehow it seems to be working just within Dolphin browser. So I think that its not the paste that is not wrking, but the copy - nuthing is getting copied into the clipboard !!!

I am on JB btw... So no solution still huh... ???
I'll +1 that as well.
Had my S3 in for repair (hardware) and it had been factory-reset when I got it back, so I though "that's good, I should be able to paste now :-)".
Well, I could, but now less than a week later, the pasting is not working again.
Don't want to root in case phone has to go back for another repair - couldn't have un-rooted before the last repair, as the phone wouldn't power on, so I would have been a bit stuck !!
sometimes, in some apps "copy" causes it to force close.. others it seems to work, but there is no "paste", only "clipboard" icon pops up and nothing pastes.. it is two aspects of the same bug .. I just rooted using gs3_debugfs (vzw sch535 here) and deleted all the files in /data/clipboard and rebooted, and my copy/paste is working again!! no more crashes. seems like I was out of commission since 10/25, so I am quite relieved.. rooting was very simple and won't lose any of your data..

Please clarify whether this work-around requires root or not.
There is no root required for that but no one else has confirmed it works for this problem. Does not cause any harm to try.
*Hmph*

Seems maybe samsung did fix the issue, time will tell.
What gives you reason to believe they've fixed it?
I have a brand-new Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 that had the problem as of yesterday evening. It is currently restored to factory default state, sitting on the kitchen table, this >< close to going back to Costco.
If the above work-around mitigates the problem: I'll give Samsung another couple weeks to address the issue, otherwise the tablet's going back tomorrow.

Well shotgun said he has fixed this with his cure and he has jelly bean and has the clear all option and can see his clipboard . I can not on my note 2 with jelly bean and cant even see any clips as I could with my siii.
So I am going on the edge here and think nothing more that maybe it is fixed, it certainly may not be but since I can not see my clips it may be .

So we don't know.

I've been somewhat ambivalent about the tablet, anyway. After my last Android product experience I had my doubts about the wisdom of giving the platform an opportunity to screw me a second time. I'm inclined to get out while I still can. I didn't when I could last time and have regretted it ever since. These Android-based products simply do not meet my standards for product quality and customer service.

Hi,
This is just to report recent developments between me and Samsung Mobile Singapore...
I sent an email to complain to Samsung Singapore CEO and they almost immediately dispatched an engineer to attend to me personally at my workplace! For service, I'll give it to Samsung, but solution-wise is a bit "sneaky" as the solution was the unofficial root and unroot my phone. (I hope I do not land the engineer into trouble...)
I do not want to reset my phone or root, but agreed to root, only to help them find the cause of the problem from the clips that hanged the clipboard.
According to the Samsung engineer it was because my clipboards exceeded 20mb and some inbuilt Samsung coding would stop the clipboard...He said that Samsung is currently in the works to develop an update to allow the clipboard to exceed 20mb without hanging. However, a side effect after the "root and unrooting", I couldn't update software anymore, as I have the error "Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available."
After fixing it, the problem happened, when I updated Chrome..
Went back to the engineer to root and unroot again...a day plus later, the problem happened again, this time quite suddenly, as I didn't catch any specific behaviour that caused it to happen again.
My conclusion: Still a samsung problem, even though Google Chrome seems to play a part. It's definitely related to the "S3 clipboard manager" feature, which I can live without, that caused this problem.

I was able to find the clipboard icon, but it doesn't respond...
Before my issue returned, I was able to see the past clippings when I pressed on the clipboard icon and able to clear them.
Shotgun84, u r either plain lucky or your problem was a different category...

I guarantee you I had nothing remotely close to 20MB in my tablet's clipboard when it went tango-uniform. I only had the thing a short while, and the clipboard was only used to copy/cut/paste the occasional bit of text from here-to-there.
The suggested "fix" is so silly it's hard to believe an "engineer" suggested it. So they double, triple or increase by an order of magnitude the size of the clipboard. All that does is delay the problem.
Here's a thought: Put the original Android clipboard support back, and stop trying to re-invent the wheel... incompetently?

Are they going to send an engineer back out to "fix" that, too?
Colour me unimpressed with Samsung's: 1. Having created this problem in the first place and 2. Their handling of it.
All of this is serving to reinforce the opinion I've seen many Android people suggest: Stick with Google Android devices.
I think with all the various different threads being merged here by all the forum moderators, we seem to be forgetting that there's two copy & paste bugs. One where you go the C&P and the phone crashes and the other where you copy something and it fails to paste. I for one am getting really confused by how fragmented this thread has gotten.
I think they're the same bug, realized different ways, depending upon the application. For example: It came to my attention while I was in Chrome, which it was crashing. Figuring it was Chrome at fault, I tried Dolphin. It crashed that, too. So I tried the default Android browser app. It did not crash that, but neither would it paste.
What that variance in behaviour says about the browsers is not comforting, either. If I were to guess: I'd guess that, of the three browsers, only the default browser app is handling the exception generated by the broken Samsung clipboard at all "elegantly," and it's not bothering to warn the user there's been an exception.
Clearing the stock keyboard clipboard seems to work at the moment (mine was a force close paste issue), but obviously as soon as I copy/paste more than a few links, it'll stop working again. I emailed Samsung (USA) a number of times, and they still won't even admit that it's a problem.
