The pinout on the S3 is slightly different than most phones, but I've been able to use my very old car charger to charge my S3 without issue. But it looks like you may have to get a replacement.
Well, I used a charger today that I had ordered for my old Epic that said it was for Samsung specifically, and the phone did not shut off after a few tries. So it appears that all chargers AREN'T created equal... Thanks for your help, you guys!

Aside from voltage(s), power supplies have a limit on how much current they can provide (Amperes/milliamperes). The Samsung travel charger is rated at 1A, or 1000mA, which is what the phone will draw if it senses it is not attached to a PC; if senses it is attached to a PC, it will only draw 500mA.
Always check the device's power requirements and check the power supply's capabilities. The voltages must match but the power supply can have a higher current rating; a lower one will cause problems and risks damaging the device, the power supply, and causing a fire.

Yup..the calls just maintained when I removed the charger cable from the phone. The battery was not hot during conversation. Furthermore I have and extra battery. The same thing happened even when the extra battery was in used and are charging. Signals were full as well.

MMS uses your cell network, so mobile data must be enabled. Unfortunately, MMS is not supported through VoIP-type connections.

The problem will occur in other instances than just phone calls, I've noticed. Even with the stock Samsung S3 charger. People have reported problems with WiFi tethering while charging.

I'm getting more and more certain that something is goofing up with the slightly modified, and proprietary, GS3 MHL port. Some pin must be connected that is causing interference with particular wireless options.
There are at least two charger protocols for USB charge only chargers and you can't tell which one you have just by the Amp and Volt information on the charger.
From about 2007/2009 the non-iPhone chargers short the two data pins.
iPhone Chargers do not and read the data pins to control or limit the Amps.
A 2.0 Amp iPhone charger may only put out .5 Amps (and may over heat your phone).
Many of the Generics went after the iPhone/iPod market and don't tell you.
If its a USB charger and says universal and iPhone "it is not".
There are some dual USB car chargers with the iPhone protocol on one side and non-iPhone on the other.

There are several "do it yourself" site showing how cut open an iPhone protocol charger and solder up the data pins. A little too much for me.
If you care it was while trying to find out why the generics I had did not work for my S3 I found
iPhone doesn't follow the:

the Universal Charging Solution embraced by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) On 22 October 2009.

I just switched from HTC One X to the SIII and I have a couple of questions. Is there a way to change the ringtone volume without unlocking the screen? I like this feature on my One X but seems to not work on the SIII. There is a increasing volume tweak in Settings > Sound. I don't think it's adjustable from the lockscreen though.

It's fine. 1.0 A = 1000 mA. The voltage is the same on the output, and that's what matters.

Hi Kuhns, if you go to bed at around the same time each day, you might want to check out the free app, Timeriffic.
This app lets you control tons of settings (including volume) based on time of day, if you have a fairly regular schedule it's great! If your schedule is different on different days of the week you can also use it, I have one schedule for M-F & a different one for Sat/Sun.

You may wish to try WidgetLocker, you can add custom sliders, widgets, shortcuts, anything. It would allow you to have a Power Toggles widget on the lock screen, in which you could have the volume mode and volume slider toggles.

Thanks I will look into it. My bed times right now are different all the time since I am not working. Just missing some of the options in the One X but I am loving the speed and smoothness of the S3 not to mention the fact that I can be outside and if the phone rings I hear it and the battery life is Awesome. I actually have tried Widget Locker and it has to many options I like the stock lockscreen just am looking for a way to control the ringer volume.

I didn't know the stock lockscreen didn't have this feature. I use Widgetlocker (and have since the first day as I had it on my old phone), so I thought it could.

I'm going to disagree with you with the current having to be perfectly matched. If we were talking about higher current draw electronics, then I would agree. Consumer electronics, however, are not so tightly controlled because of the reasons you list. I use my old Droid X charger with my Galaxy S3 every night (leaving my GS3 charger/cable by my computer) and it works fine with no heating issues. The Droid X charger is rated at 800 mA, IIRC. Unless you use cheap knockoff chargers, most chargers have current overload sensors and current limiting circuitry to prevent overheating via overdrawing the adapter. They're also more likely to have fuses in them, too.

Overnight my phone slowed down drastically, when switching screens it's as if it's morphing from one screen into the other and when on homescreen and I press menu button, it's a faint screen at first then ever so slowly finally pops up....why is this doing this??? I am wanting to throw this phone lol

On your first comment, I'll admit that I misspoke. I can't find an answer to this. Sorry if it has been addressed. Verizon visual voicemail doesn't seem to work on WIFI? Is that just me or does anyone else have this problem? The second I shut off WIFI it's fine. But I need/use WIFI all day at work. And I don't want to use google voice (the standard reply for this particular problem..haha) because of one feature that few know about. The ability to send a voicemail to other VZW users from the app (their phone won't ring. But they think I called them back because they got a voicemail all of a sudden). I love that trick when you don't want to speak to the person but have to give an answer.
But back to the problem. Anyone know a way around VVM not working on WIFI ???

I suspect that Verizon forces you to use their network for checking voicemail (or getting VVM) for security reasons.

If anyone else has the same problem (creating new templates) then do the following:
messaging>menu>settings and look under "Storage Settings" where you will see "set text templates". You can edit, delete and create new templates in here.
When you want to use one just compose a new message and tap in the message box, menu>Add text>Text templates and select the template you want.

I don't think so. Only because it did work on my Nexus, Incredible, T-bolt...
I think it's a problem. I called Verizon and they said they know about it and there will be an update later this year to fix it. But I never trust them. I always ask you guys. I just was wondering if I'm the only one experiencing this. I'm probably to only one that uses VVM.

Using the stock browser? Check your homepage settings. Or use a different browser. I use Boat Browser on my phone, but Chrome is also good.

I have absolutely no idea why... Well, actually I kind of have a slight clue as to why, but my battery has been DYING EXTREMELY FAST. Like, before I could easily get a day of 12 hours with heavy use (4.5 - 5 hours screen time at variable brightness). However recently I download an app via the net; it was a keyboard app from this website... Install Stock Android 4.0 Keyboard on Galaxy S3, Should Work with Other Devices as Well

Anyway I'm not 100% sure that this non-market app download is the culprit. Here are some stats from today:
This is by no means normal use for me and to be completely honest I was being modest in my use meaning 0% screen brightness. The screen on time at that point was 2 hours and 40 minutes. Hm. Not usual.
Later on in the day at 2:29 PM the phone was down to 18% and I had literally had it on standby for a long period up to that point. I did some LIGHT, like feather-weight, 4G surfing on 100% brightness but I was outside so sue me. I had 4G/Wi-Fi/GPS off for the duration of the time I wasn't using the phone so those couldn't be the culprits. Anyway, I'm really disappointed as to my amateur decision to download a non-market app but then again I'm not entirely sure if that is even the problem. Could someone help please??
Btw, I'm coming from a Droid Razr Maxx so saying that this phone had good battery is really saying something! - I'm saying it!
Hope someone can help me out...
Edit: I have come to my wit's end about this issue so I am actually going to perform a hard reset (because the other two factory resets didn't do SQUAT.) Ok I'll keep y'all posted. Still need help though, lol,
Edit 2: oh and before I forget I do NOT have "Sync Picassa Web Albums" checked on sync settings (since I know that has been a known issue). At this point I'm also formatting my SD card because I understand that there could be a "corrupt file" or something on it...

If you still get the problem, tap on Android System, that's hogging the battery. It'll give you a breakdown of what's taking power and you can find the runaway process that's draining the power.
But I think you're doing a necessary step. A complete wipe of the device, the internal storage, and the SD card (if one is installed) may be necessary. If it's still doing it after that, remove the SD card. But a breakdown of the Android System readout would be useful if it persists.
Being a CDMA phone (I'm assuming you're still on VZW after switching from a Razr MAXX), the signal strength is also important. Click the top chart and note the colors. Green and yellow are good. Red is bad, black can be bad, could be OK (depending if you're in airplane mode or use Juice Defender).

Usually when system apps like that crash, you need to factory reset the device. Make any necessary backups.
I woudl first un-install the apps and then try again first.

I just want to give another thumbs' up for Llama. I hadn't heard of it before the above post, but I checked it out, it's basically like Tasker but a lot easier to use, and it's free (I've heard that Tasker is awesome, but it isn't free). I've now stopped using Timeriffic (it's really nice but it's only time-based) and now I've set everything up that I previously had, and more, using Llama.
If you want to automate anything based on location & you've ever tried Tasker and thought it was too confusing, I'd give Llama a try.

So I had a recent problem with Where's My Water on my tablet. I was messing around with some files on the internal memory and suddenly WHW stopped working. I had to completely wipe my internal storage (at least, delete the /android/ folder inside the internal storage) and then reinstall. It worked then.
I don't see quick camera access under my lock screen options
Are you using any lockscreen type other than swipe? Like pin, pattern, or face unlock? If so, they disable the ability to do that. Unless you check "With Swipe lock"
Or are you just not seeing it in the list? On my device, I see:
Shortcuts
Information ticker
Camera quick access
Clock
Dual clock
Weather
etc
hi--this may have already been answered but couldn't locate it, but i recently got a galaxy iii and was able to send pictures without any problem via text. the last 2 days it has stopped doing it, giving me the error message that the file is too large and cannot be supported. before that it indicates that it's compressing, but never does. i had sent pictures for at least a week prior to this happening and now i can't unless i crop the picture. i haven't changed the pic settings to anything other than default of single shot. any ideas? thanks!

Try clearing the cache on the messaging app. To do this, open your app drawer, find Messenger, and then tap+hold it until App Info appears at the bottom and drag it to App Info. Then click clear cache. Do not click clear data unless you want to delete all of your text messages, which might be part of the problem. If clear cache doesn't work, back up your important text info (like save pictures to your internal drive) and then clear data.
A few issues I am having trouble solving with my s3 on verizon:

1. Is there a way on the lock screen for the email icon to show a flag for new emails? Like the email icon does in apps?
2. Is there a way to have the calendar icon show the actual date instead of the 30th.?
3. I have a blue tooth tune link adapter for my car but I have to manually connect each time I use it is there any way to get the s3.to connect automatically? I I have a car dock and it recognizes the dock.
Also once I am connected to bt in the car voice calls will not go through the bt audio

1. Try Widget Locker, a far superior lock screen. I haven't looked back to the stock, no comparison.
2. The icon is a static image, so it cannot do that. You can only do that with a widget, AFAIK.
I would like an answer to #3 as well, at least on how to have Bluetooth automatically connect to a paired device. Every time I turn on Bluetooth, I have to go into the settings to tap on the headset and then it will connect. It only auto-connects if I turn my headset on after I have turned Bluetooth on. If the headset is already on, and then I turn Bluetooth on, I gotta go into settings and tap to connect.
