Please forgive if this has been covered. I bought an 11 pin adapter to connect to hdmi using older cable. It connects to the tv fine for pictures and video on phone, but while connected the phones data connection is turned off (can't play YouTube, Pandora, etc). I bought the cable because I don't have internet at the house. Is there a way around this? Thank you.

3. I have a blue tooth tune link adapter for my car but I have to manually connect each time I use it is there any way to get the s3.to connect automatically? I I have a car dock and it recognizes the dock.
Also once I am connected to bt in the car voice calls will not go through the bt audio
Go Locker is also a good alternative to the lockscreen.

There may be some widgets that are just a calendar 1x1 calendar widget. I can search the play store in a little bit.

I think this is a problem with using non-Samsung adaptor. It happens to me, too.

Default Screen won't timeout

When I am charging my phone the screen timeout feature doesn't work. This has just recently started happening the last couple weeks. I charge my phone at night and so when I get the notification that it is fully charged (or any other notification) the screen stays on until I wake up and turn it off. I usually don't wake up to the notifications, so I think my screen is sometimes on for hours at a time. Anyone know how to fix this?

Check settings > Developer Options > Uncheck everything

I can't find it on my device, but on Android devices, this is typically due to an option in Developer options being on.

Also I put some things in my calender not want to delete them. Can not figure out how to do it. Any ideas? Thanks in advance

For your ringer volume issue, are you seeing your incoming call on the screen? Actually seeing the incoming call. I ask because my sister was calling me last week and I ignored it to call her back in a bit, but the phone had automatically added her number to the Reject List because of this. I only figured it out when she said she was calling and I wasn't seeing anything, so check your reject list (Phone > Call Settings > Call Rejection > Auto reject list). Just check that in case.

For your calendar question I don't understand what you're asking.

I downloaded a picture someone e-mailed to me a week ago. In my notification bar it stills says downloading. I tried long press and swipe to remove it. Restart doesn't help.

First check out what brownitus is saying. If not, then attempt to play any sort of MP3 through your speaker. Does any sound work?

Try resetting the data on GMail. Open your app drawer, drag the GMail app to App Info. Clear data.

Possibly, but I don't hold high hope of it. I had problems with this with genuine Sammy cables.

Using which email app? Clean data like how I described it in this post for another user.

Default New User questions.

Hi. I got my S3 yesterday. First, I've read different things about battery life. Today was a moderate usage day of talk and data. With Wi-Fi on, GPS on, a fair amount of texting and email/FB receiving/sending, I am at 17 hours 44 minutes off charger, with 42% battery remaining. I would say that's a definite WIN for me.

I have two questions.

On my old EVO, I would get a system update notification that I would most times cancel and then not see the notification again for a week or so. On my S3, I have to cancel the notification about every 15 minutes or so. That's annoying. Any way to change that or set the delay for prompting for a longer duration?

Also, I'm currently on v 4.0.4. I've read about updates that Samsung is sending that disables parts of Google Search to find local things on your phone. I think I have that functionality now. If I accept the latest Samsung update, will I lose that feature or is this something entirely different? Is there a way to give you more specific info to determine my exact build and whether Samsung has already dumbed down my phone?

Lastly, when I press a button on my phone and the screen comes on, I see the unlock screen. There are four icons on the bottom, the phone icon, the mail icon, an icon of a big black S, and a camera icon. None of these work because I have to swipe to unlock. But when I unlock, I get a totally different screen and those icons no long appear. Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance for your help and answers!!!

Ok, try it with the app called "Downloads". It's got to be one of these apps that are doing it.

It means your notifications are disabled. The options to re-enable should be on your notification bar.

Unless you root, you can't disable the message. But you can get it to stop for awhile. Go to System > App Management > All tab > FWUpgrade and force stop it.

Second, the universal search does get 'dumbed down' to not be able to search your device. However, I never used it before I knew it was going to get dumbed down (and had to check to see if I actually had it). Also, you can get a universal-search enabled Google Search APK from XDA (I can provide a link if you want) and install it and restore universal search. Even without root, this works. Or just wait until Jelly Bean and Google Now is delivered, which will make you forget about the old search app all together.

Those icons have to be swiped up. Tap/hold the app, move it up, release. The screen will unlock and that app will be launched. Or just disable the shortcut apps all together in the Settings > Security > Lockscreen options

This seemed to work for a little bit but it still ends up crashing again... is this a known issue or am I doing something horribly wrong?

It is neither. I use the GMail app day in and day out. It never (if only rarely) crashes. Something may be wrong with your device. Have you attempted a factory reset? This clears out all your settings/contacts/etc if you don't have them sync'd or backed up.

Unhappy

Hi, I am facing 2 issues with my S3
1) In india, there is only on Time Zone, but Whenever I am roaming within India in multiple states, my S3 shows 2 different Time zones, one for Home Location and other for Roaming Location. But its an issue since I have not moved to any other country.. and in India there is only one Time Zone.
I checked in Settings -> Date and Time -> My Country is INdia but still the Device shows two different Timings on the home screen

2) Can not set clicked picture as Wallpaper in Horizontal Mode. If i browse Gallery using default Gallery and try to set clicked picture as Wallpaper in horizontal Mode, the Crop function does not allow to set the Wallpaper in Horizontal mode, so that it should be set for Multiple Home screens

Can someone suggest ?

You can turn off the roaming clock in Settings > Security > Lockscreen options. It's near the bottom.

The second issue is because Touchwiz doesn't allow for horizontal wallpapers. It can't be done unless you use Nova, Apex, or another launcher.

Thank you again for all the help but it still didn't disappear. I found the file in the downloads app and deleted it. I tried reset and battery pull after deleting it.

It's to signify notifications are off. When you pull down the bar at the top of the screen (not sure what you actually call it!) you can select notifications to be on or off.

Ok, so there are two options.

One: Keep resetting apps that you think may have caused it. Like the browser you used to download the file, etc.

Two: If it still doesn't go away, you may have to factory reset the device. It won't delete local files, but it will remove contacts not synced with google, apps, etc. But it will reset whatever is doing that notification. A little extreme, but it works.

Confused Contact icon missing from quick access menu and app drawer

Hi everybody. I have an S3 for a month now and I accidentally deleted the Contacts icon from the quick access menu. Since I knew how to put icons back there, I opened the app drawer but can't find the same Contacts icon. The only way I can get to my contacts is by tapping Phone > Contacts. I'm at my wits end and have troubleshot for nearly a day.

My last resort would be to reset the device but before I do this, any recommendations?

Btw, I can still see Contacts when I go to Settings > Application Manager > All

Appreciate your help!

I have a strange problem with slow keypad/dialing response when I'm entering in a number in response to a voice prompt. For example, I make a call, then when prompted to enter a number (like a passcode for a conference call), it takes 2-3 seconds before the phone responds from one key press to the next. It only happens after I've already placed a call. The problem is random, but it has been happening for as long as I've had the phone (VZW preorder). Anyone ever have this issue and know of a fix? Thanks.

Cry Bluetooth and contacts; linking problem?

I drive a car that has voice-enabled dialing, but it seems not all the contacts in my phone sync up with my car. The only contacts I can dial (through my car... sure I can and have picked up my phone and dialed a contact) are the ones I have physically added to my phone.

I'm sure a great majority of GS3 users are on Facebook, are linked up via their phone, and obtain a lot of phone numbers that way. I have also noticed in my 'Applications and Sync' that 'Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly'; this message has been on my phone for at least a month. My Facebook account also has a red icon next to it, whereas the other accounts have green icons. Could this be the problem? If so, is there a fix coming down in a future update to fix the sync issue?

Under settings, go security, then lock screen options, then shortcuts (a toggle I know, but you can press the word and go somewhere), this will bring up an area where you can set them up and change them as you like.

Arrow Search Message by Sender

Google was unable to help me find an instruction on how to search a message by its sender, the search facility only search the contents of the messages (SMS) and not the sender. If I am going to search for "Rodelio" then it will only show those messages where "Rodelio" is mentioned in the message and it will not include those messages where "Rodelio" is the sender.

I hope I am making myself clear. Thank you for any help.

I'm at my wits end and have troubleshot for nearly a day.

My last resort would be to reset the device but before I do this, any recommendations?

Btw, I can still see Contacts when I go to Settings > Application Manager > All

Appreciate your help!
First, open your app drawer and tap the menu button. Make sure no applications are hidden by seeing if "Show Hidden applications" is greyed out. If it is greyed out, then open grid type. Select Alphabetical grid and then try finding Contacts again.

Due to the GS3 having internal memory as user accessible storage, this is not possible, unless you root.

I've never seen that problem before. Try clearing data on your phone dialer app. That would be an option if you go to settings > application manager > all tab > Phone > clear data.

I would suggest what brownitus suggested. If that doesn't fix it, I would suggest returning it to the place you bought it for a replacement.

I don't use facebook anymore, so I can't comment on this directly. But I would try resyncing facebook. Either by manually refreshing the sync, or removing the facebook account and re-adding it.

Resizing and capitalizing the text is unnecessary. Please use the default text size, as I will try to answer your question to the best of my ability, anyways.

First, try reformatting the SD card. With the SD card inserted into the phone, go to Settings > Storage > Format SD card and follow it's instructions.

If it fails to format the card, you probably have a defective SD card. There are a lot of counterfeit SD cards that get sold on eBay and Craigslist that are appealing, but are cheap and will fail quickly. Only get SD cards from reputable vendors. If you did get your card from a reputable vendor, then try returning it for a replacement.

I understand your question. But I don't have the same problem on my device. Are you using the stock messenger app? I was able to search by a person's name and it gave me the thread of conversation.

It sounds like you disabled it as doing so will remove it from the list. So try:

Menu > Settings > Application Manager > All

Then scroll all the way to the bottom. Disabled apps are grouped together at the bottom of the list and are not sorted with the Enabled apps. If it's there, just open it and click Enable.

I installed an app called QuickShortcutMaker and then you can add the native Google Voice Search from there. It will be listed under VoiceSearch, and then "RecognitionActivity"

Yes, just using the stock messenger app. If a "Rodelio" sent you a single message without mentioning "Rodelio" in the content of the message, that message will not be included. =(

Default Thumbnails Animation in Video Gallery

Hi,

Can somebody assist me regarding the animated thumnails of the videos in the Video Gallery. A standard feature of the S3 would be to animate the videos if we view the gallery in Thumbnails mode. The animations are stored in the /mnt/sdcard/.thumbnails folder.
I recently messed around with my phone and deleted these files (total size was around 300Mb for the 3.9Gb of videos that I have).
After that, the thumbnails do not animate anymore.
However, after a couple of tries in restarting the phone, some of them thumbnails start to animate again.
Can anyone explain how we can control this feature, please? (how to turn it on and off, so we can manage the space that the animation files takes up).

Thanks in advance!

Hi
i need help with my Samsung Galaxy 3.
Regarding SMS.
If my phone is switched off and a text message is sent, When i turn the phone on, the message will show me that the time the sms was sent is the time that the phone was switched on, not actually 'real time' it was sent.
Is there any settings i can adjust to fix it?
Thank you

Thanks for the recommendation. I have already tried this. No apps are hidden and Contacts is nowhere to be found. Reset device then?

I don't know how to help you. My messenger app searches by contact as well as content. Perhaps if you tried a third party messanger app like Handcent or Go SMS?

I can't tell you personally that I've seen a 64 GB card work, as I only have a 32GB. But others on the forum will say that they do.

I would think that running the video once would create the thumbnails again. But I'm not sure, I don't use my GS3 as a video player.

On the phone, no. You would have to check with your carrier for the actual time the message was sent.

It seems impossible to use a full image as a scrolling- rolling horizontal wallpaper.
This happens only when I use the gallery option. A perfect horizontal rolling screen can be generated using the stock galaxy wallpapers.
Using an App like Zedge also inserts wallpapers the correct way.
So it seems that the only problem is with gallery pictures. They insist on being cropped.
setting horizontal wallpaper doesn't work even when i use zedge app... could anyone help me?

You have to use a third party launcher, like apex/nova/go, so that horizontal wallpapers are an option.

The stock launcher does not do horizontal.

With my headphones connected I am able to listen to music on the radio, you tube, music player. When I try to listen to music on an internet site (eg. myspace) I can't hear anything, even though the website is indicating that something is playing. How do I fix this?

I would recommend you try a different browser like boat browser or firefox.

Just a follow-up on this, it seems this problem really only happens when I first dial into my Google Voice account, and then place a call to a system with some type of VRU/key prompt. I switched to initiating the google voice call from my web browser instead, which so far seems to work. Still, it seems there's a prob somewhere with the S3 when I use it to dial into Google Voice and initiate the call from there, as otherwise my Droid X never did this in the almost 2 years I had it. The GV call initiation from the browser is a good enough work around.

Hi, I accidentally synced all my Gmail contacts to my contact list so now there's 640 unassigned contacts.

I wanted to mass delete by groups but apparently I can't delete anything that's unassigned. Deleting contacts from my Gmail account and resyncing is out of the question because the Gmail account in question is my corporate account (the only reason why I linked up to it in the first place).

How can I delete those 640 contacts from Gmail? Will I be able to delete from Kies?

Thanks!

Wanted to share this tip I just came across. If you are tired of your S3 asking if you want to connect to WiFi, open your phone dialer and enter *#6335623# and a menu will open with options to turn that feature off.
