Mine usually drops at a rate of 5% per hour on standby with Wifi/GPS/4G off.
Battery life on this phone is great!! (And coming from a Razr Maxx, that's saying something!)
Today I tried turning the LTE off.
So far it seems to be a lot better. I still haven't used the phone much today (30 min screen time and a 30 minute phone call), but the battery is holding much better.
It is now at over 5 hours and still at 81%. Much better than the last two days where it drained inexplicably with LTE on.
It seems, so far, that LTE is the culprit for draining the battery even when you aren't using the phone. I will keep an eye on it though.
Just wondering if anyone else has this problem....my S3 drains battery life like there's no tomorrow. I can be using it for 10 minutes and lose 12% battery life already. I have a backup battery and it's the same problem. I turned off most of the things I think are using up power, and also downloaded juice defender, but doesn't seem to help much. What am I missing? I see others having 20 hours of life with continuous usage. I think if I use it for 2 hours the battery will be dead!
I had bad battery life too. Once I did the above, I now have an estimated 4 days of standby time on the phone.
Keep in mind to get maximum battery life you will likely need to root and use Titanium Backup to freeze (or remove) some unneeded apps that may be the cause of your excess battery drain.

I just had my Samsung Galaxy S3 yesterday, I've charged it for the first time before turning it on, then I went for a walk, I could see that the battery was discharging *but I was using the nike plus app.
Anyway, I plugged the charger to my phone all night long and when I picked it up this morning the battery was only at 71% for about 7hours of charging, so it only change of about 30% in 7hours.
Now I try to charge it while connecting it to my computer, but it isn't working. The phone doesn't seem to recognise that I've plugged it. I tried it with the phone on and with the phone off, but the same thing happen.
Would anybody now if it's a bug, or if I need to change something in the setting ?

Try a good old factory reset and then if that doesn't work try calibrating you battery.

S3 with AT& T and so far love it. I notice from the images posted lots of Android system is in the single digit %...mine is in the mid to upper 40+%.
Would this affect battery life and if so any suggestion to improve would be appreciated. Everything on the phone is default out of the box.
I charge up early morning and it will last all day but I would consider myslef a light user. No video etc etc...few emails on wi-fi and maybe 10 calls for the day
I think the reason for the varied battery life besided the subjective issue of how each person uses the device (not the same) is the radio in the GS3 S4 version is a battery hog in weak signal areas.
I notice that compared to the Razr in areas with good signal, the GS3 is far better, but in areas with weak signal, it is just as bad as the Razr (post ICS update). This seems to mainly be a 3G issue.
Are you using the charger that came with the phone or one from another phone?
My wife was charging her S3 with the iPhone brick and a generic cable and it would not fully charge the phone. Changed the wall brick to a belkin that is probably pushing more amps and it charges to 100%.

This is with LTE off all day and running on HSPA... and what I felt was pretty light to moderate (one call, some texting, some browsing) use.
To me this performance seems... not bad... but not great either. What does everyone else think? Seems like other people in this thread get a lot more battery life with a lot more screen time than I do.

This is the 2nd week I've had the phone, running apex launcher pro, beautiful widgets/weather...pretty frequent facebook use during the day on and off the internet for random things, lots of texts, no phone calls today..wifi has been on for the last 3 hours...I'm extremely happy with this battery for sure
here's mine, not good at all compared to previous phone (i4), with the i4 i would still have about 40-50% easily, same day to day use and locations
Well, the screen is over and inch larger. That has a lot to do with it. Those numbers look pretty standard to me. Plus you are using your phone a lot. Android system is at 50%. My android system is 9%.

And how am I a liar exactly? I noticed after posting the screenshot it doesn't show facebook which is weird because I am on and off it all day, on breaks at work and sometimes while working. Screenshot proves all that I just said why would I lie?
Does being on WiFi save your battery compared to the cell network? I have a 6GB plan so I usually don't bother with WiFi but a lot of people wwith long battery life seem use WiFi a lot.

Yes the radio wastes more battery on the network then on WiFi
Just installed a custom ROM yesterday, and while my battery was good, it's even better now. I'm not sure why maps is using so much battery, so it should be even better, but I've been having this problem for awhile.
Why do folks try and compare their own use to other people and assume as the same standard? Too subjective. Battery use is relative to you (each person).
We should use this moment to appreciate that comparing battery use to others is in the same realm of reality as wrestling, Ghost Hunters (and all similar shows), alien abductions, and male "enhancement" products. It aint' real.
The truth IS out there though.....

I found the GS3 to have an awesome battery life.
I charge when I get home for maybe an hour or two and the phone is fine until for the next 24 hours. I keep my phone on 24/7 and I watch video's from time to time. HBOgo is a nice app by the way.

I had to get a replacement phone and for some reason the battery does not seem to last as long doing the same things, running the same app. I even took off the Facebook app and I am just using the browser. Will download one of those other apps that checks battery usage today see what it says.

that's right,
unless people provide details on what exactly they do with their phone and for how long, whether or not they have battery saving apps running, and what programs they have installed or have removed these types of threads arent gonna tell anyone much of anything.
There are numerous people reporting massive battery drain without even using the phone and therefore result in people thinking the phone has crappy battery life. Threads like this serve to show them that they can optimize their phone and more than double their battery life. So, threads like this are not totally useless.
The root problem is the carrier bloating the hell out of the phone with useless garbage. Unfortunately, a large amount of this garbage can only be halted if you're rooted.
When I first got the phone, my battery life was horrible (about 15 hours or so tops standby). Once I rooted and used BBS to find the offenders, my battery life went up to an estimated 3 days. That's an insane improvement by simply disabling the stupid garbage that Verizon put on the phone.
Now, one very important thing to note is I don't use things like Facebook or Twitter. I'm also not a heavy talker. I use my phone for all the other features it provides (like a PDA). From what I've read, Facebook is a big offender in battery draining.

So my battery lasted 13 hours last night with 2 hours screen time. I had mobile data on as well as wifi. Does that sound normal?
Currently I'm down to 78% with 35 minutes screen time. .
Depends what you were doing during that screen time.
Best bet is to install BBS if you haven't already. Then plug the phone into your charger then unplug it and let it sit untouched for at least an hour (the longer the better). After you let it sit for that time, follow the instructions at the link below to generate and decipher a dump file. Be sure the dump file is "Since unplugged". The link below explains everything.
The first step is to find out what background processes are waking your phone up. The more screen time that is shown, the harder it is to nail down the problems.
I just installed BBS I will try it later tonight and see what it says. It figures today I get amazing battery life. I am at 70% after 6 1/2 hours. moderate text, facebook on browser and only about 20 minutes of quick phone calls.
After switch from the iPhone 4 to the GS3 I can't believe all the crap that runs in the background. I pull up Advanced Task Killer and 20 apps are doing something in the background. It looks like the GPS is either on or off whether I'm using navigation or not. Seems to me the GPS shouldn't be on unless I'm using an app that requires it. I switched to the GS3 because I got tired of Apple's iron grip on my device. So far I've got mixed feelings about this phone. I have 8 days left to return it. I always wondered how people managed to use their phones at work so much that they needed to bring in a charger. Now I see. With minimal use this phone will go 24hours on a charge when my iPhone 4 would go 2.5-3 days.
I had an unusually slow day a couple of days ago so I pulled up NBC's Olympic app to catch watch some videos. I don't think I could watch a full movie on a charge. After an hour I plugged the phone into a USB port and the battery still slowly ran down. That screen must pull a lot of juice! I noticed 49% of my battery life goes to screen usage.

It would be different if the thread was about battery saving solutions but it's just people saying how long their battery lasts which is just as much if not more dependant on the user's activities as the quality of the battery itself.
Well, after almost a week, it's no where near I thought it was going to be, but it is at least as good, probably a bit better than my DroidX. Pretty much have to charge it daily.
I bought a Sammy Galaxy S3 (first Android device) yesterday and it is awesome, one thing though...
I fully charged it last night and fiddled around with it this morning for about 1 hr and 30min, not constantly but in and out. Played about 2 games for about 20min in total, a bit of browsing, whatsapping people and thats it.
my battery is already at 86%? I do have the power saving option on, syncing is off and brightness is on auto. I did hear that the Galaxy has superb battery life so it should survive longer on 90%+
Is this normal or am i being neurotic?
Cell standby says 24%
greetings from Cape Town, South Africa BTW.

That sounds pretty good to me, one thing though, I have my screen brightness set to 50% at all times, it`s more than enough.!! ( I use a great widget from Play store by CurveFish called Brightness Level) , I think the auto setting can use power with its constant dimming and brightening.!
