...for the past two days, something has been killing my battery, quick. I think it might be the weather widget. I just put it back on my main screen a few days ago. Albeit, the update was set to three hours!
Anyway, I've removed it, and gone back to just a clock widget.
Also, I installed Google Reader and Google Voice this week. I think I'll uninstall those; not like I use them anyway, and we'll see how the battery behaves.
...something is seriously wrong with the battery life on Samsung device(s). It has been this way for a few days now, and various users, and various Samsung devices(s). I bet an update to an app is causing this.
Today I woke up to a dead device, after going to bed with it at 78%, and NOTHING was running in the background.
I just did a factory reset, and now I'm at 100% (11:05 EST). Let's see where it is when I leave the office around 16:00 today.

Meh. That's quite a blanket statement. References? Links? I'm having no issues here. You've got something going on with your individual phone.

So, I see from your post today that your battery life is better. Do you think it was the factory reset that fixed it, or just the usage you had that day compared to now?
I have been studying this thread trying to figure out what i can do to improve battery life.
I have had my phone for a couple weeks and have really been unimpressed with phone battery life. Today I have hardly used my phone and am down to 30%. I am not sure how to capture my screen so here are the stats.
battery at 30%
screen on time - 44 min
time since charge 10 hours
Cell standby 45%
screen 15%
OS 10%
I have sync off, wifi was on but connected all day, bluetooth and GPS both off. I didn't have any apps running and only did a few things all day, check email and send a few texts.
I believe so. Plus, I turned off GPS (I turn it on when needed), and auto brightness is off, too...

I get good battery life, but this is what I do:
- GPS is off, I turn it on only when I need it. Now that I think about it, I think I'm gonna make my city maps available offline- reduce data usage and improve battery life even more.
- I stay off the network (mobile data is turned off) whenever I can- at home and at work, I'm always on wi-fi. If I'm going out, then I'll turn on mobile data and turn off wifi. I never have both on. I feel that when I'm on 4G/3G the battery drains faster.
- Never underestimate the power of airplane mode- this is like adding 1000mAh to your battery. I use it during classes and meetings.
- screen brightness is a bit past 1/3
- no sounds except for the screen unlock
- all motion gestures are off
- s-voice is totally disabled- none of that funny business with the home button
- I vet all my apps- either it's brand-name (i.e. starbucks, google, etc) or has consistently good reviews.

My phone completely stopped charging altogether after about 3 weeks of use. I'd leave it on the charger over night and it wouldn't charge over 45%. Later it wouldn't charge pass 4%. Sent the phone (along with the factory charger, & battery) back to Samsung to get fixed, they replaced some component, and got it back yesterday and still having the same problem.
I'm in the process of doing a warranty exchange through T-Mobile, but I fear the newer phone will have the same problem..
I actually ended up doing a factory restore, and it was fine after that.
Also, I installed AirPush Detector - it tells you which apps have ads (thus I removed those)

I'm finding my battery to be very good. But could anyone explain why, when I'm asleep, the phone appears to be awake for periods when nothing is going on? (notice the long gap where wifi and screen were off, but the phone was awake about half a dozen times)
I too am wondering about the awake time while the screen is off. When I first got the phone I was having terrible standby time. When I checked the usage the phone was constantly awake. I realized that I had changed the setting so wifi would never sleep. Now my phone is awake intermittently like yours. I'd like to figure out what is waking it up.
Let me know if you figure anything out. Could it possibly be the LED notifications?
...again I woke up to my device being dead. I charged it to 100% yesterday afternoon, and hardly used it all evening. So, to awake to it dead, I was simply not impressed.
I'm beginning to wonder if the issue has to do with the default weather widget that I turned on this weekend. Even if that was\is the case, surely the device was made to have said widget on, no?
I'm in the process of charging to 100% again, and then we'll see how it performs today. I sincerely hope I don't have to perform a system factory reset. If I do, I won't be happy...
This is nice. How did you get so much from the battery? (I know you weren't using social media, but did you literally just not open any social media apps and that's it?) Were you actually using your phone much if at all? Share pls

Wow i get nothing like some of the battery usage you lot get. Im looking to upgrade to a 4800mah and yes comes with a different rear casing but that doesnt fuss me. I game alot on this device. Constantly listen to music. Downlad and text/call.
I get like 6-8 hours out of the stock 2100mah stock battery. Ive also gone thru various measures to try and sort my battery dying like the sleep wifi option, Brightness and notications etc.
Would it make a difference that when my device was delivered my wife took it off charge after about a hour n half? I was very annoyed with her for that but she said she wanted to play.... I believe these li-ion batteries have a memory??? So would make sense that after 2 hours it will say charged.
Also if anyone can provide a link to a decent extended battery would be greatful. 4500 and up thou please lol.
I'm not sure if everyone is aware of it, but we have rules on this forum. You really do need to know about them because you agreed to them when you singed up. Part of these rules deals with behavior. Your behavior specifically. We expect everyone to treat each other with a certain amount of courtesy and respect. This is rather hard to do when you are trying to aggravate another member or hurling insults at them, which is why we also tell you not to do that.
Short and sweet, be nice. If you have nothing nice to say, then say nothing at all. Future issues will involve all sorts of fun things like infractions, revoked posting privileged, time off from the forum, etc. So play nice.

I just got the Hyperion 4200 extended battery.... Not sure who makes a higher capacity battery...
It's been my experience Juice Defender uses more battery monitoring and turning things off (which the OS then takes cpu cycles to turn back on) than it saves.
Now im going to order this to test but from what I can see looks very promising and also the seller offers a variety of colours for replacement back casing .... wondering what it will weigh at 6000mah thou lol.
My battery sucks...Not sure if I have something running in the background or not..It went from 100% at 6am to 81% now at 721am. Obviously something must be running..I also just got this strange icon on the top of my screen. Looks like an eye ball...anyone know what that is??

that's 'smart stay' - screen stays light while you're looking at it -it won't dim as normally it would.
After about a month of having SG3 and having to charge it daily at night with moderate use, I activated the Power Saving mode yesterday and can see a dramatic difference in how the battery is discharged. It now holds charge for a long time.
It would have been nice if they could clearly state what all features are turned off when Power Saving is ON beside what it shows in the PS Settings screen. For instance I noticed that it no longer shows up all audio related apps in the Notifications area as soon as a headphone or car audio pin is plugged into the audio out socket. Not a big problem, but it would be nice to know and be able to choose which ones you still want ON. The provide list is very high level. I have completely turned S Voice off, it is useless and heard it sucks up battery. Turn Wifi off when at work as we don't have wifi at work. I don't ever turn the data off at home where I have wifi.
I believe so. Plus, I turned off GPS (I turn it on when needed), and auto brightness is off, too...
Navi - are you on LTE the majority of the day? I'm looking to get an S3 and live in NYC, so will be on LTE all day as well. Wanted to see what battery life was like with LTE (Vzw for me) on all day.
I think mine is a little worse than it was a couple months ago. Which sucks because it was almost getting me all the way through a typical day without charging.
Question: If you leave your mobile data turned on while you are connected to a local wifi network, does your phone still spend battery using the LTE cell network?
Does anyone know the correct APN settings for HSPA+ on AT&T? I truly believe that my battery is being drained by trying to find a LTE signal and it only happens when I'm at work, which is away from the city.
Why don't they have a toggle switch for different networks like they do on Verizon?!?!?! Any help would be truly appreciated!
Hi everyone, I have only just got the Samsung galaxy S3. I charged it until it went green then turned it on after a day, I am unsure as to how long I charged it though.
At this precise moment its at 48% 6 hours 12 mins and the screen time is 2 hours 8 mins. My screen is at 32% and the game I installed today is at 24% which I played for maybe nearly an hour or thats what the cpu says.
I have power saver on and all of the networks off.
Do I need to do anything like let the battery run fully down and then charge it or something similar, as I have read online that your supposed to use it first let it run down and then fully charge it for the first time, so I am a little worried that I've damaged the battery, phone etc.
So sorry about the long winded message lol, I'm just a complete noob when it comes to gadgets.
Pooks
That was over two days, and to be fair I charged it for a total of one hour over that time. But still, pretty impressive! That was on ICS, unfortunately Jelly Bean doesn't give anything near that
so does this mean that the signal in my house is so bad that it's killing my battery? if you look at the end of the day, the time I get home from work is when the wifi is connected. At the same time, the signal goes from green to yellow and the battery graph drops at a steeper rate than it did all day on LTE.
It was at 40% when I got home, now after 2 hours on wifi, it's down to 15.
The funny thing is I live about a block away from where I work and my living room is closer to the window than my cubicle is. seems like it should be just as good.
So I use to have pretty decent battery life after only 3 weeks with the phone. On my longer (12 hours on the road) days, my phone would get home with still ~30% battery. Recently, I have been getting huge battery drains. First 3 hours of the day, I played music (offline music) on my 30 min drive and then phone was in my pocket during class. Got to my car and had 70% battery. Got to work and charged it for about an hour and downloaded an apk for betterbatterystats. Downloaded it, unplugged my phone, set it aside, and waited. Here are the results:
.....
Well apparently I can't post pictures yet. Battery started at 84% and is now at 44% in 2h 28m. From the betterbattery app, "bam_dmux_wakelock" has used 10% of my battery in 12m 51s. The android native battery app says the "Android System" is at 59% of the battery used. And the device has been idle for almost all of that time (screen idle is at 2h and 10m). So clearly something is running in the background reaping havoc on my battery.
