Default AT&T - turning your S3 into a Portable Hotspot

Is it free to turn ur S3 into a portable hotspot? i know with some phones or providers its a monthly charge of 10 or 20 bucks. But i dont see a price when i go to that option on my AT&T S3, So does anyone know??

No, I know it is not free through AT&T. I happen to have the "data pro 5GB data plan" with hotspot included. I am not sure what other plans with AT&T might offer it, or if you can purchase it individually, but if you call 611 on your AT&T phone, they will let you know which plans it is available with.

you can do it for no charge with rooting, or you can pay 50/month for 5gb with tethering

i have the old unlimited plan, so its now 5gb then they throttle me, but if i use the portable hot spot i think it boots me off that plan and automatically puts me on the pro 5gb plan instead

With my Motorola Atrix, this could be accomplish by creating a new APN pointing to wap.cingular (along with some other settings) and then making it the active APN. Unfortunately, I tried this with my S3 and it didn't work.

PPL keep saying root, root, root. You don't have to root get hotspot you can use Foxfi and others.

True you don't need root at all to use it but sometimes it makes it easier with root access
