Only once, when it was in my jeans pocket. I could see a bright spot of light shining through my jeans!
I just turned the shake sensitivity down a bit and never had that problem since. It's very seldom going to happen anyway because the screen has to be turned on first before the shake detection kicks in.
Absolutely true story:
A few months ago on my old phone, my seven year old got a hold of my phone and started jacking with it (he's a smart kid). I collect and listen to Old Time Radio shows from the 1930's, 40's & 50's on my phone all the time. One of those shows is The Adventures of Tarzan. Each episode of Tarzan begins with the famous "Tarzan yell" for about six seconds. Well, my loving son clipped off that yell from one of the episodes, set it as my ringtone unbeknown to me and later that evening I found myself standing in a line at the grocery store trying to decide whether or not I wanted to acknowledge, and therefore feel the need to explain, that loud Tarzan yell coming from my left testicle.
I must be so boring!... the phone is perfect because it does all the necessary core things without a hiccup. This has been a great thread, and has helped me to understand users's needs, but it does all seem to just work.
I like being able to take a screenshot without having to root the phone. Simply hold Home and Power buttons simultaneously, or - this is beautiful - slide the side of your palm across the screen (you have to enable the latter in Settings).
Been lurking this thread a while so thanks everyone for all the tips.
My tip is more the coolest feature that I will find soon;
Multi-tasking/multi-window as the Note 2 does. I can't link yet but there is an article on androidcentral - "Multi-window feature could be headed to Galaxy S3 in Android 4.1.2 update".
Hope this doesn't contravene this threads intention as it isn't here yet (end of year) but I am quite excited about it and will be a feature I will definitely use.
long press the home button to get into your ram usage and to kill apps.
perfect. this phone is the nuts like
cheers for this thread too

This is actually a weakness in my view. It shows apps that you were recently in but it also has a preview of the apps even if you want certain apps private. Now if it just listed what was open that would be great but actually showing the app is dumb.
Recently while browsing my e-mail and even google search, I accidently found out thet if you slide your finger up or down either corner of the screen the font size changes without having have to pinch the screen. So there you go you have a one hand operation no need to be using both hands one to hold and one to pinch.

The option to have which apps were recently opened to appear, or, not, would be nice.
Gotta ask a question though, as I've seen similar questions/concerns on this issue in several forums on this site :
WADDERYA lookin' at that ya don't want anyone else to see?
Just joking.......
Seriously, if you're web browsing & don't want it to show up in apps recently opened up, try out the app IN BROWSER, from the GOOGLE PLAY STORE.

This just happened. My cousin just purchased his first smart phone and was needing help so during the show and tell I decided to show him how to kill his apps so when I pressed the button to bring it up there was the pictures of his girlfriend in all her naked glory. =-O

I actually dont have a lot to hide, but its just the fact that it can be done. Maybe i dont want a coworker or anyone that may want to view my phone, looking at text that i send out, or pictures on my phone. It should be an option or better yet it should just list the open apps rather than actually display whats in them.

Already got this feature up and running on my phone its quite cool. Running the omega 4.1.2 which is great.
They have also come out with a new feature in 4.1.2 called smart Rotation which is supposed to adjust the direction of the screen to your angle of sight which is quite cool.
I love my GS3 & this thread is top notch...however I do not have the option in my input & language for voice cmd apps. I am extremely bummed by this & don't know if it's because I just bought the phone & it's on JB or what... anyone know why it simply isn't there?
Are you serious?! You're my hero, do I just turn on the wifi on the xbox and then it plays via the xbox? Or via tv?
Yeah, I need instructions. I tried this last night and it didn't work. I just know I did something wrong. The XBox just has to be connected, right? You don't need XBox Gold or anything do you?

Welcome to the forum NinjaNik
The setting has been moved from language and input to the s voice settings on jb. You can also use the smart switch widget which will put a toggle for it on your homescreen.

Oh well, whatever, nevermind!
Xbox is on and connected to your home wifi, can be doing whatever on it really. Go to your gallery and when you look at a pic the share to tv icon should show, press it and bang, what is on your phone will appear on tv.
Make sure your phone and xbox are both connected to the wifi and you should have no probs.
No idea if its the same on the PS3 sorry.
One thing to check is that you have not disabled the sharing in settings if its not working.
ill pop on tomorrow in the hope of seeing you guys got it working.

When you say "you have not disbled the sharing in settings" are you referring to S Beam?

Thanks so much... both for the kind welcome & the info!

Make sure whatever WiFi device that is connected to the TV as the same port settings as the S3. If they are both connected to the same router then they should be the same. This is a very impressive feature which I have always found to be faultless.
think its all share cast, in settings, more settings.
Got it to work this weekend. Just needed to update and then set up my All Share info (I had previously disabled the app as bloatware). Works like a charm. Thank you sir!

I have it all working, I am able to stream videos and pictures to my TV through the xbox now.
BUT!!!!
When playing a video, it pauses every 3-5 seconds and 'processing' shows up o my phone. Then it plays another 3-5 seconds and 'processes' again, and again, and again. Sometimes the video 'speeds up' like it is trying to catch up.
There is a reason I really want this feature to work: I have 2 girls who dance, and I video tape each class as they are learning their routines. They use the videos for practice each week (we have 6 dances for my oldest to learn in 2 months) and it is SO MUCH EASIER doing this than to convert the videos and put them on the ipad to prop it up somewhere in the room (this is what we did last year). A 50" tv right in front of them is just so much nicer, but it is useless if the video will not play from start to finish.
It never does... I have tried to change the 'fine-ness' of the video and the resolution but it does not make a difference. I am currently trying to play a 35 second video and it takes about 4 minutes to get through it.
I've never gotten even the smallest quality of video to play on my home tv without it pausing and stuttering. Sorry no help, just wanted you to know not alone

jesus i didnt even think my phone could do half this stuff
Sadly you are not alone, I had some friends come over from the US for Christmas. One of them had an S3 and was using it for calls, texting and facebook. He had no idea it could do any of this stuff or how to do it. I had a busy Christmas teaching him how to use his phone

Just upgraded to the s3 from the evo 3d and man I am IMPRESSED. I absolutely love this phone and can't find to read this thread front to back to find out all the cool features
1. While connected to my trucks radio via AUXX cable, the ringtone and text notifications play through the phone and not the speakers. Which is nice so I don't have to constantly change the audio volume. Other phones play it through the car speakers and you get blasted by the volume.
2. Smart Stay. So awesome. I hated constantly having to turn back on my screen to keep reading something.
3. Assistive Light widget for a flashlight.
4. Face down to silence.
5. Power Saving Mode
6. System control toggle widget in the pull down notifications.
7. Display brightness in the pull down notifications
This phone is just amazing. The only thing I wish were different was a higher capacity battery. Which I got via ebay (3000mah slim battery that fits the original back plate...no nfc though)
There are more features I like but can't think of them.
I could very well be wrong about this but I read somewhere that it isn't a good idea to leave the "Flashlight" on for too long. Supposedly (Maybe) it can overheat or damage the flash LED with it staying lit too long. Considering it's primary function is to just flash momentarily it seems plausible. On the other hand, if they put a flashlight widget on the phone maybe it's ok. I have used the dual LED flash on my Droid X as a flashlight quite a few times but I try to limit the time it's on to maybe 10 or 15 seconds or so. Anyone else have any thoughts on this?
Benny
If you use the light while recording video it stays on until you shut down the app. So I don't see it being a problem keeping it on for any amount of time.
