Well I've used it in a busy McD's on a Sat afternoon and worked just fine....

How far away are you holding it? Try testing it first by putting on some tunes in your house or having the TV on or summat....(and try holding the phone a little closer - and try the other 'trigger' as well.... )

If it's a hit or miss function, I can do without. I can just take picture with the screen tap shutter button. I wouldn't bother to try and test and hold the phone closer to practice in order take a picture with voice.

Exactly.....

It's great for certain situations, as has been said, like if you're in a QUIET enviroment, and you want to hold the cam DEAD still to take the pic.

Otherwise - you'll just have to use it as a normal cam.

It's just nice to have that 'option'.... for when you need it!!

I found the only time I need this feature is when I want to show off to my friends I can voice activate the shutter. I don't think I can DEAD still to take picture if I have to shoot a few times. :O

It conforms to what I said at the beginning "...using voice to take photo is more gimmick than real practical use." Now I turned it off so it won't activate the microphone to save batter. :-)

Whatever....

I think it's a really handy feature to have - and I've used it now quite a few times... (night shots....no flash??)

If you wanna 'show off' to your friends....you better take em to a library or somewhere to guarantee this 'additional feature' works for you

Luckily for those who don't want to use this feature, or for those situations where it's not practical, there's still the old fashioned way.

It does allow you to quote: use the quote button. But it won't add in the reason for editing.

Works well for me...... Used it a couple of times yesterday when with a group of friends I placed the camera down, we all got together and when we were all ready a said "Shoot".
CLICK.... job done.

I could not have got that same shot even if I had used a Timer Delay.
With TD shots you are still at the mercy of a specific time. However, with the speech feature you pick your own time simply by using the voice command.

I centred the owner information under Setting\Security\Owner Information and now it scrolls on the lock screen.....

Bit useless but cool none the less.

My phone is showing my computer but no pictures (1000s on the pc though). How do I get the folder to actually populate with pixx?

OR - how do I just get it to no longer show the PC folder?

Story of my life brother.

I've was struggling with this for a while.. It won't load your thumbnails because the computer has so many pictures it takes forever to read them..

Apparently there is no feature to stop them from showing up, but what you can do is.. Go to your computer, the one that is streaming the pictures and block the phone from the stream.

Just find your phones MAC ADDRESS and block it via either windows media player or whatever software you use.

Easiest fix I've found.

Didn't see this mentioned already, but noticed when I was on a call with my wife today that there was a little speaker button towards the upper right corner on the calling screen (you have to be on a call to see it). It is located to the right next to the picture of the person you are calling.

I've named it "Turbo Volume". It actually raises the volume even louder. So if you have your phone volume all the way up but your in a noisy place, tap that button and it get EVEN LOUDER! It goes to 11.

Nigel does an excellent job of explaining "going to 11."

It took me over a day to figure out the multi-task function.

Press/hold "home" button at bottom. Duh!

Im liking that you can touch the screen with both thumbs and zoom in and out by tilting the phone back and forth. that works well for me.

Not sure if these are "cool"... but..

Holding down power button for 7-8 sec performs soft reset.. can come in handy if u want to reboot ur phone due to lag issues, or if u just want to fully clear your running applications.

While in phone dialpad, hit menu>settings to set your own phone call audio equalizer. There is also a "clear" feature in there. This Is also available more obviously for the music player as well.

Samsungs free photo editor is simply the best.. especially for a FREE app. I've downloaded countless amounts of pphoto apps in appstore for apple and this is better. I'm pretty sure everyone knows about this already, but just open a photo and click menu>edit. It will ask u to download.

Sorry if any of these are repeats, didn't have time to go through entire thread.

Default Disable/Hide Apps

You can disable or hide stock apps, open up app drawer, tap and hold the app you want to disable, drag to App Info icon on top of the screen, click disable.

I put my name & house phone number on the lock screen (in case I lose the phone and for the finder to contact me). I put spaces between the letters and numbers to make them longer and thus they scroll to the left once the lockscreen is opened.
Do this under settings - security - Owner name

I also put a news ticker scrolling at the bottom of the lock screen

I don't have an edit option under the menu. I went to gallery and selected a photo. Hit menu and it gave me the following options (but no edit): Delete, Face tag, Copy to Clipboard, Rotate Right, etc., etc.

You have to download the editing app first.

so if you disable an app or "bloatware" that was added by your provider will it stop running in the background? my current S1 has apps that never stop running and if i kill them they start back up. would be nice to stop apps that i never use from running all the time on my S3....when i get it!

In the end as long as people know the risks (e.g. Gorilla glass can be scratched), I could care less whether they use a protector or not (e.g. personal choice).
Thanks for the link to the post about polishing out scratches in GG. I figured you could and I actually use that exact product for polishing fiberglass and boats. There are other products out there that work well and you can find the 3M product in smaller sizes for less money. For me, this negates the need for a screen protector all together. I can repair minor scratches which is all you're going to get on GG. The touch, the feel of cotton... err...I mean GG, the product of our lives! LOL! Sorry, every time I say 'the touch, the feel' I always get that stupid jingle in my head.

Screen protectors are too grippy for me, need replacement often, change the look of the screen and phone and simply take away from that nice feel of the silky smooth screen. Especially when it's on a phone like the S3 with the curves.

when it takes it to homescreen keep dragging it to the bottom next to the delete option there is an app info option. This is only a shortcut to the application page that you can get to by going to settings -> Application Manager then selecting the app. They both take you to the same place, just the other option is quicker.

This thread is great. I had seen demos with many of these cool features already, but I did manage to read up on a few gems that I didn't previously know about. Thanks to everyone that has contributed.

Corning confirms Gorilla Glass on the Samsung Galaxy S3 | Ubergizmo
Gorilla Glass is nice, but not impervious to scratches or cracks. My wifes Samsung Infuse (also Gorilla Glass) has a few small scratches, and my Father's GSII got a nice spider web across the screen from leaning over his couch with it on a hip holster.

Go with SGP Ultra Crystal Screen protectors if you are looking for something that looks and feels like glass. No rubber feeling to it like some skins, and as the product name states, they are crystal clear so there is absolutely no screen distortion.
I have used Zagg, BodyGaurdz, Skinomi, etc, but I always go back to SGP Ultra series protectors because of how they feel, and protect the screen. Not to mention, it is a dry install, no water or spray to mess with and no bubbles. Once installed you forget it is there, and still have added protection for the screen.

I ordered mine from Amazon for $13, and installed it as soon as it came out of the box at the Store. Works great.

What feature does a tv have to have to be able to do this? Just any tv with wireless or does it have to have a special AllPlay feature?

How are we to know that's a legit app? its not in Samsung Apps... or S suggest. has no other Samsung apps related to it and the link to the website is broken.. Doesnt have many installs at all.. and wants SMS permissions.

Point is, I want to install it but I don't trust the market at all.

Good point. When I try to go to their site, I get a redirect and then a blank screen on my browser. I also went to Samsung's corporate site and did a search for Samsung Electronics CameraLab or just CameraLab, no results were found.

The only thing that leads me to believe it is in fact from Samsung, is when you go to email the developer it shows: PhotoEditor@samsung.com. They do have 1 other app to called "Video Maker."

I found it in the Samsung Apps app the came preinstalled on the phone. So I am assuming it is by Samsung. I still don't know why the Play store won't let me download it but the Samsung app will.

Oh good to know...thanks Speed.

Not sure why you are having problems with the Play store download. It worked well for me. Could be something your carrier is blocking for some unknown reason. I'm on VZW btw.

are you guys talking about in the gallery???? Because i saw my computer name as an album. it was driving me nuts. I don't want the thousands of pics on my computer on my phone. But you CAN shut it off (if that is what you were talking about).

gallery menu> View by> Content on device (rather than "All content")

Sorry guys, I'm an idiot!!!!!!!!!!! Tthat doesn't stick. It's only temporary. I wish there was a way to shut that off....

it can sync with any tv, it does not have to be a samsung. although i do have a samsung led with the allshare feature and its awesome, i did sync it up with my buddies LG tv the other day and sent some pics to his tv. it will work with any tv that has storage capabilities no matter the brand, it does not need allshare...

I typed this so fast I forgot to mention you do need an allshare cast dongle though (the most important part, haha).....sorry i had a brain freeze. I lucked out with a buddy who had one, but they will be more widely available in the upcoming weeks here. This site has them

So, I just did that for the first time and and told it to "Remove all." Did that just remove them from the list of recent apps, or did it shut them down altogether? I'm trying to find a function like the widget I have on my E4GT, called Program Monitor - it's kinda simple and just lists the ones you've recently accessed, no list of everything that needs to be running in the background like a task killer does. Is this the same type of function?

This phone is the first with GG2 which is an improvement in durability using 20% less material. Corning website has a cool demo video. That said I did just slap on an Armorsuit Military Shield protector. It's just slightly grippy, but not bad. In fact I've convinced myself that it actually is better for precise navigation since your fingers don't slip around quite so easily. Since the smallest piece of pocket sand can make micro scratches, I'm glad I did it.

Remove all just clears the list. I would let the OS manage memory.use the task manager if you really feel the need to kill an app. Most don't use CPU while not actively open and in use.

If you tap and hold the App in App Drawer, you have the option to drag it to the very top of the screen where it says App Info, basically, you drag and drop the app over the APP INFO icon

Yes, disabled apps are frozen apps, and will not run in the background.

Just got mine yesterday and been glued to it - this thread is great!

One thing i figured out that maybe frustrating to some is the voice activated apps - here is the problem when my device was set up it was set up as google voice recognition -

The voice camera "cheese" function will not work if its setup for google voice instead you need to change it to Samsung Voice recognizer Vlingo - i believe its under the settings, language and input where you would enable the voice app feature -

Other than that - this thin is awesome - it just literally picked up my Samsung LED TV and i was able to transfer over the song i was listening to to the TV and it even acts as a remote control - so far the battery is pretty good as well 82% since 630am and its 1130am - I am using it alot though!

Why is this app not available in the UK

And i recently found out if you press the on/off button whilst watching a video on the standard video player it locks the phone and you cant accidentally press the screen or buttons

Do you have the Samsung Apps app? If so it should be there. I can't download it from the Play store and I am in the US, but I got it off of the Samsung Apps App.
