Please forgive if this has been covered. I bought an 11 pin adapter to connect to hdmi using older cable. It connects to the tv fine for pictures and video on phone, but while connected the phones data connection is turned off (can't play YouTube, Pandora, etc). I bought the cable because I don't have internet at the house. Is there a way around this? Thank you.

Without rooting, is there a way to delete the preloaded bookmarks in the stock browser? Or at least move them all to a folder so I don't have to scroll down through them to get to MY bookmarks? There's a feature for putting things in a different order, and it lets you move them around, but as soon as you're done sorting, they go back to the top.
And this is my 1st post here. Love my S3!

Long press on the bookmark you don't want. A menu will pop up and press delete.

I would like to ask a rookie question. Do I get a Kies cd software with the S3? I know I can download it off the samsung download center, but it is almost certain that I need to register my credit card. And I do not want to do that.

This doesn't work. A message pops up that says "This bookmark can not be deleted."
I can understand bloatware being stuck on a new phone, but why make bookmarks un-delete-able? Grr...

No, you do not get a cd. I downloaded Kies from the Samsung site twice and dod not have to give any kind of payment information.

It will do that if Wifi is on but not connected. That is the big difference. If you really want to save battery turn wifi AND data off until you need it. And in most cases wifi uses far less battery than 3g/4g. BUT you must be in range of a wifi adapter

Well there is but all i really meant that as far as the topic was concerned they are one in the same. Pretty sure you can't buy a new 'wi-max' phone. Sprint realized that was going no where

Just so I'm clear, my better half will need kies no matter what for any kind of updates?

I can't speak for T-Mobile, with VZW I can delete all but three. Sorry.

On T-Mobile there are NINE un-delete-able bookmarks. Virtually a full page. Ridiculous.

Default CDMA vs HSDPA

I am grandfathered into an unlimited data plan with VZW. My HTC Incred2 (purchased from VZW) was unlocked by VZW and I use it with a voice/data SIM acquired in asia without difficulty (to avoid VZW's costly overseas charges).

I've been gifted a GalaxyS3 acquired in Asia (quad core, etc) using HPSA+ which is not supported by VZW. What to do? Would rather not switch to T-mobile or ATT as my VZW plan has unlimited data. Would rather not use the S3 only overseas. My VZW dealer offered to trade my asian S3 (HSPA+) for a US S3 (CDMA) for $50 - but then I won't be able to use the US one overseas as it does not have global capacity.

Any suggestions?

Default Does the Galaxy S3 support USB 3.0?

Does the Samsung Galaxy S3 support USB 3.0 read and write speeds via the adapter cable?

I want to buy a USB 3.0 pen drive for external storage.

Something like this 'Transcend 16GB JetFlash 700 Super Speed USB 3.0 Flash Drive' for pure speed. (around 11/16 US dollars)

Then one of these 'SanDisk 32GB Cruzer Blade USB Flash Drive' for general backup. (around 11/16 US dollars)

Or I might just get the Transcend in 32GB (22) if the Galaxy S3 supports USB 3.0.

I've searched Google and this forum but not much info out there.

It's only a usb 2.0 device, so I have been told. So best bet is to get the highest speed usb 2.0 device for the phone.

In the market there is an app called Zedge. It has hundreds of free ringtones and SMS sounds. You can set them through the app or the sounds option in the phones menu.

I used to have Galaxy S so when I backuped my notes, KIES exported them to .smm format. From what I see, though, S3 (particularly S Note) uses .ssm. Can I somehow convert the first into the latter? Or maybe somehow make the S3 open .smm?

I've got SwiftKey as my default keyboard.

Whenever I use it (in whatsppa, texting, whatever) the small keyboard icon appears on the top left. When I drag down my notifications it's saying "On Going: Select Input Method" is this normal? Shouldn't it just reconise I've select a default already and just let me decide to change it back when I want to in the settings? I know it's very minor but wasn't sure if I had done something wrong with selecting my input method.

Thanks.

Does anybody know a way to get a wallpaper that changes during each period of the day? Like it looks happy in the morning and in the evening when it starts to get dark, the background changes into a darker-mood type of thing?

Default S3 keypad and text colour/background colour

Hi,

I have ordered an S3, which I'm waiting to arrive. I wanted an iPhone, but one thing which was a real deal-breaker for me was that I have a neurological condition and cannot type on a qwerty keypad on a phone, and I do a LOT of texting and emailing.

So I chose the S3 because it has multiple keypad options. However, I have been slightly horrified to notice in all the online video demonstrations etc, that the S3 seems to have white text on a black background, which I cannot read - it blinds me - again because of my condition. Is this something which can be changed?

In case you're wondering why I don't just go to a phone shop and try it out, I am bed bound, so that's not possible.

I tried asking a customer services person on the phone at o2 here in the UK, and he told me that the white-on-black can be changed. However he also told me that the iphone has both a T9 and Qwerty keypads, so he obviously couldn't be trusted to know what he was talking about!

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I've just checked my phone and the default for the standard keyboard is white text on grey keys and, looking through the settings, I can't see any way to change this. But...

There are several alternatives available from the Google Play store which offer advantages over the stock keyboard, many of which are free. There is a loooong thread on this board where people express their preferences, so that's worth a look. For myself, I really wanted left / right / up / down cursor keys so that I could easily move the cursor to wherever I wanted. The solution I found was Perfect Keyboard Free, although I've since paid for Perfect Keyboard Pro. I have it set to show black text on light grey keys, although you can change this to suit your own preferences. It does also do compact and T9 layouts, as well as a split keyboard. Other people have settled on a different keyboard, such as Swiftkey - the nice thing is that you can, at the very least, try the free versions first, and it's quite likely that you'll find a free one that does everything you need. And, even if you decide to upgrade, it'll only cost you a pound/dollar or two.

There are many apps for Android which are totally free, but some where you'll probably decide it's worth parting with a small amount of money for. I certainly wouldn't be concerned that you won't find what you want - one of the beauties of Android is that it's open enough for there to be alternatives for almost anything.

Although I possess nothing else that supports USB 3.0, when I wanted a portable external disk drive, I purchased a USB 3.0 product. They are totally backwards-compatible with 2.0 and don't even need a different cable. In a few years' time, I expect we'll all have moved to the newer, faster standard so, now that the price differential has dropped so much, it's probably worth you considering going for USB 3.0, even if it doesn't give you any immediate benefits.

Thanks very much for your advice.

I didn't mean white letters on grey keys on the keyboard - ignore the keyboard part of my question for now - I meant do you have to be typing white text onto a black screen? And when you receive a text are you reading white text on a black screen? Is this indeed the case for the whole phone, and can it be changed?

Many thanks for looking at your phone for me. I was hoping someone would do that.

By coincidence, I've just had a visitor who has an S3. I didn't know she had one. She showed me hers and has all the settings with black text on a light/white background so I won't have any problems.

- i know it's dumb, but i love the htc weather / time app. any look-alike widgets for galaxy?

- i've been told that i have to rebuild all my apps & their settings; that's there's not way to copy them from the htc to the galaxy. i know how to use the usb cable - what can i move beyond photos? sprint says all they can do is clone contacts / texts / calendar

thanks for any & all advice.

hope this was the place to post.

I can only speak on the weather app... I downloaded the Beatiful Widgets app from the android market. Very comparable to my sister's EVO weather app! It is very customizable too.

Hi, find a blank spot on your home screen, touch and hold the screen, a menu will appear, choose the "Add to home screen" selection, then choose "Apps and Widgets", scroll through them until you get to Internet (they are in alphabetical order), touch and hold on the icon and it will appear on your home screen. My partner is and Electrical Engineer ( she works for a branch of NASA in the UK for 11 years )and she says that you cannot under charge or over charge them as they have built in circuitry to stop this. Lithium Ion Polymer batteries cannot be damaged by under charging or over charging. She said that once a month let it run down to just under 20% and then do a full recharge.

So there you go, battery problem solved.

Default Playing 8Tracks over wifi........

I have an apple Airport Express wireless router at home. Is there a way that I can connect a Galaxy S3 to the wireless and play 8Tracks from the phone through speakers connected to the wifi? Btw, I have a mac, and I can play music (whether it be iTunes, through the internet or the Airfoil program) through the wifi. I would really appreciate any information provided how great the new Galaxy phone is! Cheers!

Beautiful Widgets, in the play story, has a weather widget that you can set to look very much like the htc version.

Probably a bit of a noobish question, but I just got this phone

I have an icon in the notification bar that I cannot identify. I don't recall seeing it on either my Nexus or Evo in the past, I don't have a picture so I'll do my best to describe it.

There is a square that is rotated so it on a point (like a diamond). Within this square is a plus sign. The plus sign is positioned like a + with no regard for the rotated square. On the right of the square is a few 'wireless' lines. The series of curves.

\|/

Kinda like this? No idea what it is. Any help would be much appreciated.

EDIT: Okay, word is that this icon I'm describing here belongs to the Verizon Location.

Quick question, and it's probably answered already but does the samsung gs3 come with a screen protector applied already like some androids?

Default how do i back up with a broken screen?

ah i found where you type.. Hi People found a lot of answers in the past with these forums but never posted - I have an issue i hope maybe one of you can help me with. I have the Samsung S3 and ooops i dropped it for possibly the 5th time on sunday, this time was more than just a cracked screen and now i can no longer see anything... the insurance claim form is on the way but my question is this...

I dont want to lose the pictures that are there.. last 3 months worth - rest are fine as they seem to be on the memory card but there is about 3 months missing, i also have a pattern lock on my screen so just pluggin it in to kies does not seem to be efective. there are also some personal keepsafe pics in there toothat i wouldnt want to lose and some videos of the kids etc. Anyone gotany ideas or tips of what i can do if anything?

Hey Everyone,
The screen brightness control for the internet browser on my new S3 seems to have disappeared. At one point, I remember setting a control where I had a choice of four screen power settings. Now there's nothing in the phone setting or the browser settings other than power saving and overall brightness.

I did the AT&T OTA update the other day, but I don't know if I lost the control before or after that. Thanks for any help - my browser is almost too dim to read!

just got my S3! had a BB torch before. that screen looks way too small now haha

I just had a question.

Whenever I try to log in to my Samsung Account it says "processing failed" every time. My email and password is correct. I tried it with Wi-fi and data. I even googled to find some answer but couldn't.

So, if anyone can help me out that would be really appreciated!

thanks in advance!

Have you created a new account with samsung via the sign up/register page and receive an activation email on the email address you supplied?

There seems to be some confusion with the Samsung account as some people seem to think they can log in with existing credentials with the another provider but this isn't the case, you have to register a new account with samsung.

I noticed this while looking at them the other night. I bought the first one off Amazon and saved $16.50.
Is there a device that charges both?

My alerts are muted. The volume is turned up all the way, but there is a line crossing out the alerts icon when I open the volume and show the 3 sliders. How do I get that unmuted?
