I am facing some frustrating issues with my new S3.
I bought it last week and wifi was working fine but sicne yesterday I am unable to connect my samsung galaxy s3, though the WIFI connection has very good signal strength. I always get the msg 'To see available connections tern on WiFi' even the wifi is on. There is nothing wrong with the WIFI as i can connect it with my laptop and my iphone 4. My new galaxy s3 can not find any wifi device.
please help.
When you say "even the wifi is on" do you mean that the wifi network is on (i.e. the router) or do you mean even when you have wifi turned on in your phone?
'To see available connections tern on WiFi' (sic) is not referring to your network router being available to devices. It means turn on wifi in your phone. I apologize if this is what you meant.
by the way, you might have received more replies if you had posted this in the general S3 forum and not the All Things Root subforum.

I believe this is related to the popular issue regarding WIFI on our device. The most common "Fix" right now is something that was learned from XDA developers:
1. Go to your phone dialer
2. Dial *#0011#
3. When you see the "ServiceMode" screen, press the left menu button
4. Select "WiFi"
5. See that "Wifi Power Save Mode" button that is "ON" - well turn it "OFF"
6. Exit this menu, turn off your Wifi and turn it back on. If you already entered all your wifi credentials, forget your network info (remove it) and re-enter it again.
I am experiencing the same thing, my wifi does not work at home. Wifi works at my workplace which runs the same 2.4GHz as my home.
The weird thing is that the phone worked on wifi in my home before I activated the sim card. right after the sim card it just stopped working when I try to connect at home.
The status is connected, but I can't load any page.

Let me know if this works
I tried this but no luck. I even tried resetting the router with default values and nothing
Damn you samsung, I thought my galaxy S had wifi problems, at least it was able to go online!
I have the same problem . cary328is' trick did not work for me..
Just for the record - I take absolutely no credit for that "trick" I found that in a thread from XDA developers and thought I could bring it up as a possible fix for you guys. Sorry it didn't work. I have an Apple Time capsule (built in wireless router with backup drive) and I don't have any issues with wi-fi. It would suck if it was your router(s) because other devices around your house are working just fine! Samsung should definitely fix this bug if this was the case.
hello im new here and also been having problems with wifi of my galaxy s3...it says its connected but no internet. It suddenly stopped working after 2 weeks of use
I did the *#0011# trick and it didnt work for me
So i accessed the router settings and found something called DYNAMIC ROUTING which was switched off. So I turned it on et voila...wifi works again
Hope this helps you

wow that worked for me too... thanks for that!!!
That Dynamic Routing was the problem, don't know if that's a samsung issue or what..
I had this issue after switching to Verizon and buying 2 Galaxy S 3's. Mine would not allow wi-fi to turn on at al. After my girlfriend was able to connect immediately and after countless hours, I did the following:
1. Downloaded wondershare mobilego for android and backed up my contacts, pics, and apps
2. Performed a factory reset
I was able to restore all of my phone settings and immediately connected to my home wireless.
Okay so my phone was not showing me any wifi networks that were in range.....I have wifi at home and it is working....I scrolled down to the bottom of the list of wifi networks out of range and clicked on +Add Network....I put in my Network SSID, Security, and Password...then I clicked Save and I was connected to my home network AND all the other networks that are within range popped up too. I'm sure this isn't the best idea if you are trying to "borrow" wifi...but this worked for me! Hope it helps!
Galaxy S3 Wi-Fi No Connect Issue (Solution For CISCO Router)
As like many of you, I had the same issue with my new S3... here is the solution that worked for me on my Home Wireless setup using a CISCO Linksys EA4500.
1) Log Into Your Wireless Router
2) Select The WIRELESS Tab
3) In The Wi-Fi Protected Set-up feature (it may called something else on yours)... look for the
--- "2. If your client device has a Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ PIN number, enter that number here and then click REGISTER" area. ----
4) On your Galaxy S3, select the Wireless Network
5) Check, Show Advanced Options
6) On WPS, Select PIN From This Device
7) Enter the Pin Number the GS3 gave and hit Register.
8) The connection should set itself... and that should get it done!
One way to fix this problem is to assign the device a static ip on the router, then go into advanced setup on the s3 wifi connection, and specify the ip, gateway and other settings. Make sure you change the ip from auto or whatever, to static. Worked like a charm for me, dlink dir-655

I’ve had wifi issues with my s3 since I got it. I can connect at home and at my girlfriends house flawlessly. At most other places I can’t. At school for instance, I turn the wifi on, enter the password and connect, and the phones wifi immediately turns off. Same thing happens at my buddies house, no matter how many times I try, it continues to do the same thing. My laptop and old phone have been able to connect to these signals without issue for some time so I know it isn’t a signal issue. Has anyone else had this issue? Could it be a problem with the s3 not being compatible with certain routers, or frequencies? I’ve tried turning the wifi power save mode off, tried changing the frequency to 5ghz or 2.4ghz, not sure what else to try.

This may sound a bit silly; however... for any of the password access codes that you are having issues with, are they asking you to insert a special character (for instance !)?
When I was working on setting my phone up, I eventually noticed the phone will by default put an additional space after you type a special character into the password block. This causes two characters (for instance !(and a space) to annotate on the password input. This was totally screwing me up for hours until I noticed it. Once I did, I hit the "erase" button, moved back one space and continued to type the rest of the password in. That fixed a bunch of issues for me.
DId you solve your problem with connecting to wifi? I bought a Galaxy S3 2 days ago and it still won't connect. I have the wifi turned on on the phone, all other devices in house connect fine.
I had (have) the same issue as the original thread.
I tried the *#0011# trick to no avail. The version of phone that I have does not allow to switch from 2.4 to 5 MHz.
I went to settings/Developper options. At the bottom there is a topic called Limit background processes
When u click on that, you get some radial options. I set mine to No background processes from Standard limit and the signal bars immediately fillled right up.
I had the issue at home on my Netgear router and here at work where I sue a P.O.S. Mac as access point.
Im sure I will soon find a bunch of stuff that sued to work and dont work anymore, but WiFi is back!
I have already done all trick you guys mentioned, but still without success I have tried turning off wifi powered save mode, setting 'no background processes', setting up dynamic routing... 3 days ago, everything worked perfectly, now when I bring closer my phone to router's antena, I get full signal strength. When I'm on 3 meter distance from router, I get half of it, and from another room I don't get signal at all... Any other workarounds, suggestions? Does factory reset resolve this issue completely?
I am having problem connecting to WIFI at work place.
We have guest WIFI access point and I am able to connect to WIFI. But, when I launch the web browser it should take me to a site where I have to put my access code for the WIFI. In my case, the browser is not taking to that page automatically.

Sorry if I'm a little late to post on this forum, but... I have tried every method that has been posted on here and still no go.. thee dail *#0011# method didn't work. Have tried resetting my router to factory settings, didn't work either. Have tried resetting my S3 to factory settings but still no go! Guess it's because I resetted my S3 before I had this issue and it was working fine. Any suggestions you guys? BTW, I'm rooted, so that might be the issue here..
Solution for WIFI connection with no Internet connectivity on S3
Having tried just about every solution proposed in this and other threads and forums to no avail, I just found something that works - changing the IP address from DHCP to static.
Before starting the steps below, log onto your router's home page, and go to the page which lists the DNS server's IP addresses. There will be two; primary and secondary. Have this info ready, then start the steps below.
1: Go into settings>>> WIFI on your S3
2: Select the particular WIFI network you are connected to by holding your finger on it.
3: Menu pops up; select "Modify Network Config"
4: Go to IP settings, select "Static"
5: A number of fields pop up. You only need to change 2; the last two which are DNS1 and DNS2.
6: Take the DNS IP addresses from your router page opened earlier and type them into these two fields on your S3.
7: Select save at the bottom of the screen
Open your browser and try accessing a web site.....
Hope this works for others... but I haven't yet fully researched the implications of doing this on other situations, for example logging onto a different WIFI network...

I have read and tried all the solutions listed here and failed to get my son's S3 to connect to the home WiFi. It used to connect until his phone got an OTA update to Android 4.1.2 - my wife's S3 on 4.1.1 still works fine and my Nexus on 4.2.1 also works OK.
The phone can see the network but did not connect with the previously stored password. Re-entering it does not help and it reports (briefly) "incorrect password" at the bottom of the screen before saying "Authentication error occurred".
So, I think this is due to 4.1.2 - I have spent most of the morning looking for a fix and failed. Has anyone found a work around yet?
Hey guys my WIFI is also playing up. It's forever disconnecting and then reconnecting whilst I'm using it. I've tried disabling the power save mode and still no joy. It's not the handset either as I got a replacement because of the same issue. Any ideas?

Now here's a strange thing, if I go onto another network, this time my 3 MyFi dongle, it works, albeit at the limited mobile broadband speed. Not used it in months. Nothing has changed with my home router, so I really am puzzled
My issue was that my S3 would connect to the wifi and show up as connected but
I still couldn't access the internet or youtube. It would work fine at a friends house.
I followed Mikey23's advice exactly. The only thing I changed was the galaxy S3 advanced wifi setting (DHCP to static + DNS1 and DNS2 to whatever my router showed). I did not need to modify router settings. Note, you still have to re-add the gateway, ip etc. (took me a while to figure that). Did the trick for me.
Ikr.... I have the same problem. It's really bugging me, I even tried Factory Data reset and it didn't work. So don't factory data reset. IT WILL MAKE YOU LOOSE ALL DATA AND IT WILL NOT HELP
My Issue with my Galaxy S3 (GT-I9300) running on Android 4.1.1 is that it doesn't connect with my Home WiFi. It perfectly connected 3 Months ago. But since yesterday it didn't work for me. I tried everything, even the DNS settings to Factory Data Reset it. Please Help

Anyone found a solution for this?
Am thinking of trying a factory reset later, even though it hasn't worked for others.
Strange thing is, all other devices work with my WiFi
And Samsung S3 works with all other Wifi - I am currently using my 3 MyFi at home to cut down on data usage.
I'me tempted to root, but you have to fart around with USB drivers and the like. Not comfortable with that seen as Windows is only a virtual machine on my Mac. So I may look for a Mac solution
I had not realised how different routers can be. I had a Netgear router for several years, it had ran several of my phones, my Nexus 7 and my laptop without many problems. I did notice that in some parts of the house the wifi dropped but put that down to the size of the house. I noticed that I had a couple of web sites that I had trouble loading on the laptop and put this down to the sites. One day a friend who works in IT came to visit and suggested I get a new router. I went for an Asus RTN66U, it got good reviews, it was not cheap but I got it for a good price on Amazon. Well what can I say, amazing, I never have wifi drop not even in the garden. I get great download speeds and I have never had a problem with a web site, it even provided wireless connection to the printer. I would not have believed changing the router could have made such a difference and improvement. Something to think about.
I got BT Homehub, the S3 is the only device that has issues with it
The Virgin Media super hub is a nightmare its complete rubbish. I have it set as a modem only and use another router see my postings re the Asus. The Virgin engineer says this is typical and that most users require another router.

I solved the problem. As we get free BT Wifi and everyone shares their hotspots, just logged into my own network using this. Silly workaround but it works, and logging into my network normally doesn't

Yes, thank you! This worked on my SGH-T999. I'll save this as a text file to my phone. Perhaps it's possible to create a script?
Now I just need to find the fix for my GPS. God bless. ;-)
