Default Unable to connect to Exchange mail

I can't get my new Sprint S3 configured to pull my Exchange email. When I go through setup, everything appears to go as expected, it verifies my username/password/server, etc, I allow the account to be an admin for my device, etc. But after the setup is complete, my inbox is empty, and trying to manually sync it doesn't produce any results. At the same time, every couple of minutes or so, I get a "pop-up" on the screen that says "Unable to connect to server [AccountName]". A quick Google search reveals that quite a few people have run into this issue (and not only with S3, but with other devices as well), but no solution has been offered anywhere. Has anyone been able to get it to work successfully? I'm just not sure if it's just my S3, or if it's all of them that do this, and whether I should go through the trouble of exchanging mine for another one, or simply returning for good.

I have had my Exchange 2010 mail up and going since day 1. What version of Exchange are you on? Exchange 2007 does not like slow data connections and the S3 from Sprint is 3G for now....I have The Sprint version it but I use WiFi most of the time

Default email display

I have email images on but with some emails I can read the text in the email in the preview but when I open the email there is no text there. Open the same email on my PC and all the text is there as it shows in the preview. I can't find any setting to change how it is displayed when I open the email

We're actually using Google Apps for Business for our mail server, but I always configure it as Exchange account on Android devices. I've configured dozens of different devices this way and it works fine on every one of them, and this is the first time I've run into this issue.

I'm having the same issue with my new GS3. I actually got the account configured and added, but it very randomly connects and pulls down email.

I keep getting, "Unable to open connection to server due to security error", and "Unable to connect to server".

My firm is using Microsft O365 cloud hosted exchange, with 2010 SP2 on the backend. This same account now works flawlessly on my GS2, but did experience problems with a specific custom ROM earlier.

Like the other poster, I set mine up the first day and has worked well for email and calender. I get instant notifications of my email. I can also view attachments and they are beautiful. The only problem I am having is I can't seem to update my work calender from my phone. I have to enter the appointments on my computer and then they sync to the phone with no problem. I had the same issue with my Epic.

Send a message via AIM to Scottinatl
Default Galaxy s3 no active sync

I am also getting the unable to connect error on the s3. It seems to be an ics issue not a problem specific to the s3, as other devices are reporting the same issue after upgrading to ics.

From what I understand you are not using exchange but you set it up as an exchange account right? You say you have set up dozens of different devices this way and it works fine? Are any of the devices SGS3? yes it works on the SGS2 but the S3 has a updated security features. Please see link

I think this might be part of the problem and if you ROOT or use a custom ROM the ROM might not have this ability and cause some sort of problem

This is not exchange. Even if it is exchange on the back-end you are connecting to a host like yahoo or gmail

I've tried 3 different S3s now and none of them worked, so it's definitely an S3 specific issue. I still haven't figured out what exactly is causing this, but I know it's something in the Touchwiz. It didn't work on the stock ROM (rooted or not), nor did it work on a couple of Touchwiz-based custom ROMs. However, when I flashed a de-Touchwized ROM, my email started working just fine.

umm I think your missing the point my STOCK S3 connects to exchange just fine from day 1 you are trying to connect a hosted email service with a secure exchange connection. a flashed de-touchwize ROM does not have the secure features that a STOCK touchwize ROM has of course it worked. Did you read the link I have had MANY phones almost all are Samsung with touchwize and all work just fine. The NEW S3 has a different security features.

Amongst these features is "Samsung Approved for Enterprise (SAFE)" software, which equips the phone with enterprise-ready apps and capabilities with support for 338 IT policies. These include on-device AES-256 bit encryption, improved Microsoft Exchange functionality, remote access and support for industry-leading Virtual Private Network (VPN) and Mobile Device Management (MDM), making the smartphone suited for businesses that support bring your own device (BYOD) schemes.Source: The Inquirer (Samsung Galaxy S3 is the first enterprise compliant Android smartphone - The Inquirer)

And of course all the S3 you have tested do not work all have the same features. And yes it is the S3 because the S3 has AES-256bit encryption. When you try to connect a none exchange account with exchange encryption do not expect it work UNLESS you tweak it. like removing all the secure features that have been added to the STOCK S3

Thumbs down SG 3 Work email using Google as the Server

I had this exact email work with all my other devices using active sync until now. If I use a 3rd party app like Mail Droid or Touchdown I can get it to work when I set it up as exchange. But if I use the native app it sets up correctly but I get the error "Unable to connect to server"

What are you talking about? Microsoft Office365 is most definitely exchange. I am not talking about a GMail or Yahoo account, just a O365 one.

There is an issue with Office365 and this phone. The following URL tells you how to fix it. I had the same issues and this fixed it. you may, however, need to talk to your company mail admin.

Thanks. I am the admin

I had found some another post on the O365 tech net, but I think this is where the money's at. I will report back and let you know if it works.

I have not seen any problems remorted with users using a in house microsoft exchange server 2007 or newer and the SGS3. I have seen reports of users with hosted email services trying to connect to the SGS3.

I find this hard to believe. I've seen it posted elsewhere. I'm having the same issue on an in-house exchange 2010, active directory 2008 network.

And just so you know, this is happening on a S3 right out of the box on the native email app. Any other questions?

Hello...the company I work for is using Exchange 2003, and I have a Galaxy S3 phone, and every time I try to connect to exchange, it says that it's unable to connect. The funny thing is that I upgraded from a Galaxy S2, which I still have, which connects to Exchange just fine, but my Verizon Galaxy S3 will not.

Is there some configuration setting that's could be conflicting with it? I'm using the stock Email app to try to configure.

Please help. I LOVE my phone, but not being able to connect to my company email is a major drag.

Thanks

I don't remember how Exchange 2003 works but if I recall correct you will need to work with your exchange Admin. The active sync works diff in 2003. But it should still work. Also make sure you are not using SSL that might also cause problems with the new S3.

Default Samsung Galaxy S3 - Activesync issue

I just purchased the Samsung Galaxy S3 (Sprint) and cannot get it to sync with my corporate email either. I have tried all suggestions not just on this site but all over the internet to no avail. I even did the factory reset. Works fine with Touchdown but only if I set it to Exchange 2007 (which is strange). The server my company uses is MS Exchange 2010. Even spoke to a Sprint rep and they were no help. I am so confused by all the posts I’ve been reading…is this an ICS issue, a Samsung issue, Sprint issue, or Exchange server issue????? Please help.

Default Security update should fix this error

On the Android mobile device, follow these steps:

Settings > Security > Select device administrators > choose email > Enable

If after "Select device administrators," it says "No available device administrators, do this:

Pull down top of screen in email to reveal notifications > update security settings > email > scroll to bottom > activate

Thanks but I've tried that multiple times and I do not even have the option choose anything (let alone email). Still not seeing any hidden notifications either.

Default Additional info on Galaxy S3 sync issue

To add....I follow the standard process of adding the corporate email account using Activesync - everything appears to work fine and it actually completes. When going to my inbox - it appears to be set up but there is no email there. When I attempt to sync or search or compose, the error I get is "unable to connect to server". I know I am using the correct domain, username, password, and outlook server. This all appears to go through during the initial setup. I have read about some security warning that I must acknowledge, but have yet to see it. When I go to device administrators, I do not see Email there, thus no option to add Email as a device administrator. Is there anything that I can get the Email administrators to check on Exchange Server 2010?

Had an issue where everything seemed to take fine on a S3 on Exchange 2010 SP1 (In House). It would show it was collecting mail then nothing would show up. Ended up the font setting was not set. From any folder select the menu key and select font setting and set to normal or any other setting.

Default Update on Galaxy S3 ActiveSync Issue - Active Directory fix

Update – Today I was given and iPad and attempted to sync up my corporate email account on that as well – same issue – “unable to connect to server”. I got with the email admins and they came across some errors in event view on the Exchange server – Exchange ActiveSync doesn’t have sufficient permissions to create the “email account” container under Active Directory user. This error is not retriable. Additional information: Access is denied.
Active directory response: 00000005: SecErr: DSID-031521D0, problem 4003 (INSUFF_ACCESS_RIGHTS), data 0″.
Make sure the user has inherited permission granted to domain\Exchange Servers to allow List, Create child, Delete child of object type “msExchangeActiveSyncDevices” and doesn’t have any deny permissions that block such operations.
After this we found this article – Exchange ActiveSync doesn't have sufficient permissions
The following steps resolved my issue:
Open the Active Directory Users and Computers and go to “View” and select “Advanced Features”
After that, find the user who is not able to use the ActiveSync, and double-click him, and go to “Security” tab then click “Advanced”…
Then just check the ckeck-box “Include inheritable permissions from this object’s parent” and click OK to close all the other windows…
After this, the user should be able to connect to the server using ActuveSync with no problems…
After doing this…I was able to sync my corporate email account on the iPad and my Galaxy S3!!!!

I'm getting the same error. It only seems to do it when I am on wifi at home. If I turn the wifi off it will sync just fine. It also sometime will sync with the wifi on at home but more times than not it gives me an error. I hope this is just ICS related?

the error in our company is different where it will work at any w-fi connection, but it will not work under 4G.

When we were using BB, HTC, or iphone, it does not have this error. only on S3

who we can call to resolve it? Samsung or t-mobile?

will continue to google it....

This is why the S3 does not work the same as your BB HTC or iPhone
The S3 has a new level of secruity called SAFE for enterprise users.

I would call Samsung if you have all your settings correct and it is a problem with the WiFi. I would also make sure you have your Exchange administrator close by.

Default Android Cannot auto-setup Exchange Online (office365)

A very bad news, look for Android professionals opinion:

Started from 11 October 2012, the auto-setup of Exchange Online account which is provided by Office365 can never been done. I tried Samsung, Sony, LG and Motorola, but all result negative. However, the same account can be done on Outlook.

I tried another Exchange Server in house, it has no problem on Outlook or Android (even iPhone), it seems Microsoft has made a change on their Office365 Autodiscovery.

I called Microsoft, and their engineer just reply to ask you find out the server name via Exchange Online OWA of Office365, it is extremely annoying.

Anyone has similar experience? Let feedback to Microsoft.

I've got the exact same problem but then with my Gmail-account.there is no problem with Gmail itself or the app on my sgs3, but the stock email app gives the problem of not being able to connect.I tried all options above I think but font-size I cannot change within the app? If I change it in the global settings there is no difference.

Help would very much appreciated,
W

We have just recently had this problem with our work phones. We had set up emails on our new SG3's to connect to our server and all was fine then all of a sudden they went off and kept displaying the 'unable to connect to server' message.

We've just been looking into it and found that our issue was caused by the modem URL filter in the office. We had just blocked all PC users from accessing facebook and somehow the keyword search affected the mobiles from connecting. Not sure what our IT guy did to change it but they're now working perfectly. Hope this might help some of you!

Hello everybody,
Similar problem I have with SGS3, stock e-mail application working well set to exchange server when I'm in domestic mobile network. Once I'm in roaming, e-mail doesn't work and there is no error messages, just small circle rotating and trying do download messages but unsuccessfully. Then I have install other e-mail application as MailDroid and K-9 which are working perfect. Also If I'm connected on WiFi outside of my country when have roaming sign on status bar, I'm not able to receive any mail. Stock e-mail application with POP accounts working with no problem at all, in roaming or at home.
Anybody with similar experience,
Thanks,
