I got kies to sync.
Man that was painful.
Life was so much easier under the iPhone.
Technology should not be this painful.
(Dam you apple for screwing up maps and creating a walled garden!)
My situation:
Mac 10.8
new S3 i747
YMMV
Downloaded kies from the samsung website.
Used the trick to open the application in 10.8 involving the unarchiver and
showing pkg contents.
(Can't include link in first post)
Upgraded the kies application and I think a reboot happened.
(Without the upgrade the app kept crashing on me)
I upgraded my firmware.
Syncing still did not work.
Toggled the camera/media player trick.
The phone was recognized and I could sync my calendar!
Very happy for the next 24 hours.
Download AirDroid from google play and it will then give you instructions on what to do. And to. Upload in bulk use chrome it allows you to do that otherwise you do one file at a time /:
For some reason Kies won't transfer over whole albums for me from my macbook pro to GS3. Does this happen to anybody else ? I tried just using AFT but it won't recognize the phone. Any help would be appreciated !

for me when i use kies i do this click on the device name than on that summary page i click the folder next to the drive i want either internal or exteral drive
this opens a "finder" type window now from the Macs Finder i can drag anything i want to the phone
The way I got Kies to "work" or let's say painfully crawl is by going to Settings, More Settings and then tap the Kies via Wi-Fi blob. It launched Kies to actually find my iMac (10.8). Makes no sense but that will do for now until a real solution emerges.
Hours lost to get some podcasts on my new shinny toy. Not sure I will have the patience to deal with that platform much longer, I really want to but my life is too short.
I'd really like to buy a Galaxy S3, but I have a mac and not a PC, and after reading this and similar forums, it just seems like more trouble than it's worth. I guess I'll just stick with the iphone.
I am just a little amazed that Samsung would make it so difficult for mac users to use their phone. Seems silly to shut off such a large segment of the market.

Samsung, ODDLY ENOUGH, seem to simply support Windows and not Mac, in everything, not just phones. I was looking for other software for other devices and everything is Windows specific. It's weird cos they make Android phones!
Tbh though, I wouldn't let that put me off buying the fantastic phone though. I just use AirDroid. It's easy and quick.

i use a mac and i transfer videos and music with no issues using Kies
read my post a few up from this on how to view both the internal and external memory with KIES for easy transferring
Hi,
I had the same issue, I upgraded from 4S to S3, on the same day I upgraded my Macbook Air to Mountain Lion.
OSx will not mount the S3 because of the file system on the phone is different, so you cant sync this way.
But samsung have made an app to solve this. Its called Easy Phone Sync. Its in the Google play store. You also need to download the app for mac from the easyphonesync website (google it)
Run it on your phone, then on the Mac, and it mounts the phone, and syncs Itunes. It will even copy pics & contacts from your Iphone back up storted on the mac.
Only limitation, it will not copy DRM protected tracks & video to your phone. But itunes songs are now DRM free.
I did all this last night, worked a treat. Hope it helps.
Warren.
I'm actually having trouble with this part... I just got switched from iphone 4 to galaxy s3 today. I get that all the youtube tutorials and forums are saying that you just need to pull down the top bar and select MTP or PTP, but what if you can't get past that part? My device won't even let me see those selections.
I called Samsung tech support to see if it's a problem with my phone but they're just trying to make me buy a $100 product for my macbook to make the galaxy be treated as an iPhone.... when i know i can just use apps like easyphonesync for free..
