I got my SIII about a week about and today while the screen was off I noticed about three small scratches which i can feel with my fingernail. I havent done anything that should of caused the scratches and I cant see them when the screen is on but it bothers me knowing that they are there. I had my epic for 2 yrs and the screen doesnt have a single scratch.
Would Sprint be willing to exchange the phone since its been under 14 days or do I have any other options to get a new phone?
If your in your 14 day Window with sprint, why not switch carriers and actually get some data? There service is terrible..... The 4g doesn't exist.... Nor does 3g....

Just go get it replaced. Don't even mention the scratches, just say the phone has been iffy and I know I'm entitled to one exchange. But before anything, order yourself a screen protector. DIZTRONIC has some nice cases on Amazon, and they all come with a screen protector. Well worth the $10 bucks...

I guess that's the difference between being scratch resistant (which Gorilla Glass is), and being scratchproof (which it's not).
I believe you, when you say your Epic never got a scratch. You were lucky with your Epic. You were unlucky with your 3G. Some sand, or sharing a pants pocket with some keys, and that's all it takes, sometimes.
I'm not unsympathetic. Just being realistic about it.
As for Sprint being willing to exchange the phone - whether it's within the 14 day window or not, I suspect that technically the phone must be in undamaged condition to be eligible for a refund or exchange. (Just a guess on my part, based on how such return policies are commonly worded.) Your phone's scratches probably count as "damage." (Clearly, you think of them as damage, else you wouldn't be bothered by them, and you wouldn't want to exchange the phone, now would you?)
You might be able to get away with exchanging it anyway. I really wouldn't be surprised. But if not, well, you did scratch your phone; I wouldn't blame a carrier for refusing to replace a phone which you "damaged," for a brand new one.
If you do manage to exchange it, for Dog's sake, put a quality screen protector on your new phone immediately. If 3 essentially invisible scratches bother you that much, you have no business going around without a screen protector on your phone.
BTW, I don't blame you for sticking with Sprint, despite steveu694's assertion that to do so means you'll be without data until next year. I have a grandfathered SERO plan, myself. And although the Baltimore region didn't get 4G LTE coverage in July (that having been the initial target), it will be turned on here in another 3 weeks. I can't honestly say that it bothers me to be limited to 3G speeds, but I guess it'll be nice to have 4G.
So far, I think Sprint 4G is up and running in Atlanta, San Antonio, Houston, Dallas/Fort Worth, and Kansas City.
Then, like I say, Baltimore comes online in another few weeks.
And next month Boston, Washington DC, Chicago, Los Angeles, and I think one or two other cities, are scheduled to be activated.
I forget the rest of the roll-out cities/dates, other than NYC/Westchester/Northern NJ/Central NJ, in November. I recall that one, because my brother-in-law, in Central NJ, is on Sprint, and has an S3, and was jokingly whining about how unfair it is that I'll have 4G LTE so much sooner than he will.
Anyway, I don't know where you're located, but it sounds like within the next 90 days (give or take a little), a non-trivial percentage of the public will have access to Sprint's 4G LTE network, with the target of 120+ million people covered by the end of the year (ie. less than another 6 months). Although it's true that it'll be a year more than that before the goal of 250 million people is met, and probably nearly that long before HD Voice and 800MHz network upgrades start to really kick in. (Bear in mind, when I say "x million people covered," I mean, of course, that that's how many people live in the 4G LTE areas in question - not that that's how many people will actually be Sprint subscribers using 4G LTE. This, out of a US population of around 310 million.)

try swapping it...i had a white S3 to begin with, dropped it while in a leather holster and the corner of the phone got a pretty bad ding/dent on it. I took it in to Verizon, simply told them I changed my mind and wanted a blue one instead...they swapped it no problem. If you prefer to keep the color you have now, tell them it's been overheating pretty bad and you just want a new one while you have the option to do so. I doubt they will notice the scratches...if they're anything like Verizon, most of the employees are no more qualified to sell phones than they are to do brain surgery.
and yes, get a screen protector....all of the ones i tried were too big because of the glass being curved around the edges, they left a lip around the edge that wouldn't stick. Steinheil Ultra Nano fit perfect though, no lip, can't even tell it's on honestly

Yes the screen is more scratch prone than resistant I don't even know how my phone got scratched. I have screen protector on and it somehow the scratch made it through the protector.

I wonder if the non international ones have the same glass as the international ones.
to scratch through a screen protector and into gorilla glass 2 is a massive feat.

I had mine naked for 3 weeks, I then put a screen protector just for the peace of mind. Well, I don't have a single scratch on the screen, so I am happy with it. I have to say I am over-protective about the phone
I was so pissed yesterday when I saw the scratch after peeling back the protector to check if it made it through. I don't even know how it got there. Its my third new phone all have mystery scratched within 7 days! My Droid x never scratched this bad.

On my Epic 4G Touch, I didn't have a screen protector. I got a couple noticeable scratches and, based on some reading, I bought an invisible shield screen protector. The scratches disappeared when I put the protector on. I assume that any screen protector should work the same way, but my E4GT looks 100% better.

I actually checked my pockets after the first phone scratched. I got lucky that it had signal issues and got a new one. Second phone scratched after 2 days had no idea how! I again got lucky that was a refurb and the browser kept freezing and I had to reboot the phone 3 times a day or more. As soon as they gave me a brand new phone at the store I put a screen protector on in the store. Yesterday I came to work and noticed a scratch. Got home last night and peeled the protector back and there it was in the screen. No idea how.

OP, best bet is to just go an be honest with them. Tell them that you are a little upset that your phone scratched so easily and want to see what they can do for you. If they help you out, awesome. If they can't do anything about it, well, that is fair on their part anyways and it will be lesson learned. In general, though, I've found Sprint to be fairly reasonable with issues like this.

Where was the part that he had issues with data? It is like you are assuming that he would have been dumb enough to sign a two-year contract without knowing exactly what services are available to him. I certainly don't know anyone that is that stupid. Surely you don't either, right?
