Default How To Use Full Picture As Wallpaper?

I downloaded a few wallpapers on the web for my phone and when I long-press on the home screen and ask it to change the wallpaper, it always asks me to crop my photos and I am not able to use the whole picture.

Touchwiz doesn't have scrolling wall paper so it has to crop to fit on one homescreen.

There are scrolling wallpaper apps on play I believe. I use go launcher so not an issue for me

I downloaded my images from Bing Images. I specifically picked images that were the large dimensions so I assumed that it would accept them and use them. This comes as a shock to me. But I guess that makes sense why they're not working as they should. Thank you.

Problem is in the car dock in landscape mode you get black bars on the side. Which looks bad.

I use a free app called Multipicture Live Wallpaper. You can resize any picture to fit the screen you use. Also allows a different picture on each screen or one common picture that can be scrolled. Works with Touch Wiz.

Sounds interesting. Will it scroll a panaromaic picture?

I use Go Launcher as well and when I pick a wallpaper through it, it makes me crop. The only way for me to actually use the entire graphic is to pick it through Zedge.

I noticed this today too. When I pick an image from the Gallery to use as Wallpaper in Go Launcher it forces me to crop with a portrait type size (tall and thin) and then when I scroll my home screens it does this weird shifting thing where it looks like two images on top of each other but off center. If I pick from Wallpapers instead then it works fine. Totally annoying!

Here are some screenshots.

The first is the forced crop when selecting the wallpaper.

The second is the weird display when viewing the farthest left home screen.

its a limitation of TouchWiz unfortunately...no launcher is going to fix it...though as some have noted there are apps out there to work around it...

I can give you an example............this is a picture of a bird and it's native size is 1024H by 692W. That is not even close to being the correct size for the S3 screen but Multipicture Live Wallpaper will allow you to custom resize and crop so it works well on the S3 screen.

Thank you for the advice, but when I click that setting...mine comes out way differently. Mine simply shows the whole picture from a distance and continues to show that same image on each page, zoomed out. I am missing the fourth option too. Do you have an older version? That could be the problem I'm having.

Here are the screenshots of what my screen looks like. The one with the rainbow Nexus look is what it looks like when I try to add it to my desktop. Could it be that the picture is not the correct size?

hey ndh777,
Resizing your image in pc would be more preferable. It will be easy and less time consuming.

It appears you are under "common settings".

Look and you will see the option to do separate screens............the + button will allow you to have different settings for each screen.

Use Quickpic as your default gallery browser. It handles it without cropping

I was wondering, I use go launcher and mine still wants me to edit (depending on where I get the wallpaper) is there a setting I'm missing? And what if I want to entire picture compressed to fit the screen and not scroll? Is there a setting for that? Thanks in advance

I had seen that feature! But I kind of messed up the app, I think and I reinstalled it because it really went haywire. How exactly do I use this part? When I click the "+", it goes to this other screen that says "Select screen" and has two arrows and a number in between them which mine has a 1. I added "1", then added a 2, then 3, and it added a whole lot of different things to the settings that I couldn't seem to get rid of unless I uninstalled and reinstalled or cleared the data of the app. Do I only need to add one of these or do I need to add 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 for each screen on my homescreen?

That's a great idea! But it didn't work. I may try resizing the picture on my PC then sending it over and see if that does anything differently.

When I initally downloaded these images, I used Bing Images through the Chrome browser on my phone without a computer.

the problem is...once you go into the gallery to select a picture youre now in an app designed around the TouchWiz framework...so its going to make you crop it...

Hmmm, that is strange. I used Go Launcher on my Galaxy Captivate and was able to select a photo from the Gallery and use it as a scrollable wallpaper. Yet that doesn't seem to work on the Galaxy S3 using Go Launcher.

Yeah...I can see how. It'd have to be a smaller dimension than we are used to. I just tried it and it does give you a bigger size than the stock crop system allows, but it'll have to be a smaller and more rectangular picture. I'm betting the if it's a rectangular picture, the sky is the limit when it comes to big and small because the crop crops in a square and not a weird rectangle which allows more room. Thank you! I think we found a winner.

GAHHHHHH....Scratch that. I just tried it on a smaller picture and yeah, it appears to be bigger but then it just shows the same picture on every page. There is absolutely no change as in it transitions from page to page...I really hate this "feature"

I'm not sure if TouchWiz supported it (I don't think so) but I was using Go Launcher and it supported it on my Captivate and also supports it on the Galaxy S3. But on the Captivate I could use a picture from my gallery where as on the Galaxy S3 it forces me to crop gallery pictures and behaves oddly as my screenshots showed in my previous post. *shrug*

I use go launcher and wallpaper will not scroll (has to be cropped) when selected from gallery, however like someone else if I select from Zedge then it works.

Strangely if I save the Zedge wallpaper to gallery and select from there, no scroll!

When you save it from Zedge to your Gallery, it probably changes the dimensions of the picture which might cause a no scroll. Or Zedge has a way of automatically sizing the picture just right so that you can use it for a background.

I don't think you are doing it right. While in Quickpic:
Select image
Set As
Quickpick Wallpaper
There should be no cropping needed. The dimensions are pushed out fully.

Also, Im using Go Launcher

it forces you to crop the picture because the gallery doesn't know you're using a launcher that supports wallpaper scrolling...frankly the gallery probably doesn't even know what wallpaper scrolling is so its forcing you to crop the image to 720x1280 (or at least a 9:16 aspect ratio) to fit a single screen

It would be nice if you could just go to the google play store and link the app, makes it easy for everyone, it's not so hard to do, here you see https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.tamanegi.wallpaper.multipicture&fea ture=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsIm9yZy50YW1h bmVnaS53YWxscGFwZXIubXVsdGlwaWN0dXJlIl0.

The only way to do this with little to no cropping is to take the picture with the phone vertically (portrait) and not horizontally (landscape).

OK Lennydude,

Where did you get that photo of that bird? It's really nice...

Well, luckily, most (if not all) of the apps suggested here are free. The only thing you'd probably be wasting is time and data if you don't have an unlimited data plan and even then you can use WiFi. I've tried mostly everyone's suggestions, and it helps to know which ones work and which don't for yourself.

I tried that on pretty much every app as well as the stock "set as" option and neither does anything. Either the whole picture and the crop turn sideways and makes the same picture as before or it doesn't tilt at all. Either way...I remember that tilting it does not work.

==========
I've pretty much given up on achieving this. The only way to truly achieve this is to use a different launcher or tweak settings in all different directions until it works out like some people have done.

I am against getting a third party launcher because I like my launcher look and the ICS feel which many launchers take away from the experience. However, APEX is a fairly good launcher that doesn't take away from the ICS look and feel. It's how the Nexus looks.

Is "Wallpapyrus" an app? I'm not finding it on the Play Store. I've got "Wallpaper Wizardrii" and will use "Wallpaper Set & Save" later. But I'd like to know about "Wallpapyrus"

EDIT: "Wallpaper Set & Save" doesn't work for me. It didn't even set the wallpaper that I asked it to set.

Wallpapyrus was removed from Play Store, I posted the apk somewhere, check my posts and you will find it.

WS&S has worked for me for over 2 years now. You must be doing sth wrong.

I use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.justpictures&feature=nav_result#?t= W251bGwsMSwxLDMsImNvbS5qdXN0cGljdHVyZXMiXQ....
Set as Wallpaper, double tap screen, voila!
For lockscreens, it's a little harder, you get a blue rectangle, pull rectangle to bottom right corner of image, image will shift, then grab upper left corner of rectangle and move to left corner of scrreen until image resizes out, hit OK.

Here is an app I found on a different forum that may help https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=lwp.superluminar.swallpaper&feature=sea rch_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImx3cC5zdXBlcmx1bWlu YXIuc3dhbGxwYXBlciJd

I believe what it does is treats the static wall paper as a live wallpaper and assigns the same gestures you use to scroll your home screens to scroll the wallpaper left and right. Works pretty good in my opinion and doesn't eat battery.

Don't know if it's applicable to the lockscreen as I haven't tried that.
