Default Application manager help

I was looking through my application manager and saw a few apps running that i never even opened. A few were S Suggest, Mobile Life Contacts and a few others that i never opened.

Is there a way to prevent them from opening and running? Is it better to go in and stop them or just keep them running?

Just leave them along. The Android operating system will shut down any apps it determines it does not need running. If you shut them down they may just start right back up again.

So there is no need to go into the Application Manger and manually stop them?

Nope. The only time I stop an app is if it locks up for some reason.

Will having these apps running and hopefully stopping on their own help or harm my battery life?

I've disabled a number of apps that I don't use or want. In the Applications manager, click on the All tab. Look for apps that you know you don't want or need and you can click on Disable.
